  1. Welcome to the forum, @LovintheGFlife! Thank you @trents. Please see my responses below. 1. Are you consistent with eating gluten free? Yes, very consistent. I occasionally eat out but only at places that have a gluten-free menu. And I take Gliadin-X when eating out 2. Since being diagnosed with celiac disease, have you had any follow...
  2. For many years the Bilirubin results in my annual blood work have been borderline or slightly high. They are typically in the range 1.2-1.7 mg/dL. Every time I discussed this with my physician, he claims it is "normal" for some individuals and attributed it to Gilbert's Syndrome, a benign condition. I was diagnosed with celiac disease (celiac disease) three...
  3. I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE...
  4. @Scott Adams thank you for this alert. I shop at Wegmans every week and love that most of their products (without wheat ingredients) are clearly labeled as 'G' to indicate gluten-free. This includes their sushi, salad bar, cold and hot foods bar.
  5. I recently had to travel to India for work, my first trip outside North America since my diagnosis three years ago. I stayed at the JW Marriott in Delhi and the Marriott Hotel in Indore (Central India). Initially, I was apprehensive regarding the availability of gluten-free (gluten-free) meals, not knowing what would be in store for me on this 10-day trip...
  6. I have tried Turkish restaurants on travels and found they are OK. Have not tried Vietnamese yet. What I have also found is that most Indian restaurants offer many varied and delicious choices for those who can tolerate some degree of spice. Many Indian restaurants in the U.S. go so far as to identify the items on their menu as 'gluten-free'. I would be cautious...
  7. @Scott Adams, thank you for another helpful article. I can vouch for Bonefish Grill, PF Chang's and Outback Steakhouse. Have not tried the others listed in your article following my diagnosis two years ago. However, I have had a nasty experience at my local BJ's Brewhouse. They claim to have a gluten-free menu but served me a soup with croutons, despite explaining...
  8. @Jessica Prince, with Outback Steakhouse it can go either way, as I have experienced. I have eaten at PF Chang's many times and have never had an issue. Am yet to try Olive Garden and Red Robin. Interestingly, I called my local Cheesecake Factory twice and was told they do NOT have a gluten-free menu. I highly recommend Yard House for their gluten-free menu...
  9. @Peggy M, I've eaten at different Bonefish Grill locations in the U.S., (at least a dozen times) and have never been disappointed. I found they always take great precaution. As a celiac this is now one of my favorite places for dinner. Sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience.
  10. @Cynthia.Wood, I agree. Have eaten there many times and discovered theirs is perhaps the best gluten-free pizza anywhere!
  11. @Jefferson Adams thank you for clarifying this. The earlier article by Scott Adams on liqueurs was also helpful. However, it did not discuss whether two of my favorites--Drambuie and Tia Maria--are gluten free. Do you have any information regarding those two?
  12. @I.M.Celiac these are very helpful tips for a traveler; thank you! I have tried most of these and KIND bars have always been my go-to snack. I would also like to add two other restaurant chains where I have had safe dining experiences: Yard House and Outback Steakhouse. IMO, these two take gluten-free meals and Celiac Disease very seriously.
  13. @Jefferson Adamsthanks for a great and informative article. As someone who has worked in Pharma Quality and Compliance all my life, I can attest to the fact that there is likely to be no gluten in most drug products such as tablets and capsules. While active ingredients should never contain gluten, the culprit could well be the excipients (inactive ingredients...
  14. I have always wondered why big brand companies do not label their products as "Gluten Free", even though they are gluten-free, whereas the store brands (generics) such as Wegmans, ShopRite and Lidl do. One would expect it to be just the opposite. I have noticed this with many different items such as shredded cheese, cream cheese, butter, yogurt, mayonnaise...
  15. @Magdalen, I generally avoid buffets in restaurants, especially if there is any bakery item around. The only items I am comfortable consuming at a breakfast buffet are hard boiled eggs, fruit and yogurt.
