  1. I’m 12 years on this journey @MiriamW. Some things are easy to deal with, others not so much. We persevere though! It’s the casomorphins in dairy that make it so addictive. And it’s highly inflammatory. You might benefit from the AIP diet for a while to heal your stomach. Knitty kitty is a big advocate of AIP and I agree, it helps to stop the reactions and h...
  2. @MiriamW, I can't tolerate dairy ... and stay away from it, though I fall off the wagon occasionally! It gives me brain fog (histamine), gurgling stomach and my skin starts itching. At present I follow the AIP diet 80-90% of the time. Just fruit and vegetables ... the freshest meat, lambs liver, poultry and fish possible ... and I'm making progress fixing...
  3. No problem @MiriamW. The Warburton's bread seems to have less ingredients likely to cause issues ... https://www.warburtonsglutenfree.com/products/supermarkets/white-loaf Regarding thinning hair, I've read that deficiencies in Zinc, Selenium and Iron can cause this. I've always had thick hair, but many years ago I noticed it going thin (at the Barber...
  4. You're welcome @cristiana, really nice pub/restaurant. A good find so had to share.
  5. Getting a little off topic here but I'll share anyway. I don't eat gluten-free bread any more, but I attended a wake for a friend in the UK this time last year. A day trip from Cork to Heathrow and back. The staff at the pub/restaurant were incredible, it was a bufffet/finger food. I contacted management prior and made it known I was a sensitive Coeliac....
  6. I don't envy you @Charliexxx doing the gluten challenge. Hope you get through it. Good to see that you're still smiling!! If I had to do the gluten challenge, it would feel like I've eaten a bowl of broken glass, literally ... or my intestines were used in a tug of war. I'm curious what was the private test you used to test your copper levels? Is it...
  7. Went back to the optician to get me reading glasses, we discussed Blepharitis again ... he said it's caused by a bacteria imbalance in the eyelids. He said it's just a matter of managing it carefully. I'm wondering if a good probiotic would help correct that bacterial imbalance?
  8. I agree 100%. I keep a food diary most of the time ... I use the Reflection app on my Macbook.
  9. @Wheatwacked, I assume the Celiac Risk column refers to the risk of deficiency in untreated Coeliac Disease?
  10. Dermatitis Herpetiformis is an absolute unbearable itch, so much so that you will scratch the itch down to the bone. Nothing will ease the itch except for Dapsone and/or a strict gluten free diet depending on how bad it is. It may be worth getting a second option from another dermatologist. It does not sound like DH, but if it is ... a definitive diagnosis...
  11. @itarachiu, Good news that you are doing so well! Adding a low dose Iron Bisglycinate supplement (with the approval of my GP) has made a big difference to my histamine intolerance. Iron Bisglycinate is easy on the stomach. Regular black tea which is fermented causes a noticeable histamine increase when I consume it.
  12. I think we focus on getting the main minerals like Magnesium, Zinc Iron and Calcium and tend to forget about the trace minerals which are just as important, especially Selenium. I know I do!!
  13. This is very interesting. So what is the therapeutic dose of Niacin to correct a deficiency or a subclinical deficiency? Is it a case that the cells need to be saturated with Niacin to be of significant benefit as is the case with Thiamine? Is there a helper mineral or nutrient that helps Niacin to do it's thing similar to Thiamine and Magnesium?
  14. Based on my experience with DH, it occurs on both sides of the body at pressure points on the skin ... so the elbows, knees, hips from clothing etc. The blisters cluster together and are clear and watery. I initially had what was thought to be eczema on my back which didn't respond to steroid cream. It was biopsied and came back positive for DH. The symmetrical...
  15. That's hillarious ... into the cheese barrel!! It was last Thursday I had the Eye test, which are healthy. The Optometrist recommended fish oil for Blepharitis. So I had one capsule of Wiley's Wild Atlantic Fish Oil Minis after my lunch with added gluten-free fresh mashed potato as a treat (Potato (90%), Milk, Butter (Milk), Salt, White Pepper) ... and oh...
  16. Thanks. It's pretty mild though annoying. I think every "itis" in the body has some connection back to Coeliac Disease!! While I am dairy free for the most part, I fall off the wagon every now and then and gobble a half block of cheddar cheese!! I think this is dairy related, and I will conquer it!
  17. Folks, Just had my eyes tested today, pretty thorough test to be honest which impressed me. Went to an independent optician instead of Specsavers! I've got Blepharitis ... so I was wondering if anyone here has had Blepharitis (blocked oil glands in the eyelids) and how they overcame it? The treatment prescribed is eye drops for dry eyes and one of those...
  18. This site has some good information about the low histamine diet. The lady who runs it seems to have been on a really difficult journey ... https://lowhistamineeats.com/
  19. @itarachiu, I'm really happy that you are doing so well. I have histamine intolerance like you, it's much improved though. If you don't mind, what foods are you eating every day on the low histamine diet? It's restrictive and difficult to manage with a gluten-free diet! I have discovered that I had a subclinical iron deficiency which was missed on my...
  20. Thank you @cnazrael89. I've done a bunch of research about reversing osteopenia/osteoporosis naturally. I believe it can be done with supplementation, diet beyond gluten-free and strength exercise. For example, my hips hurt when I eat too much citrus ... I think it's the acidity. I don't fancy pharmaceuticals. I've bookmarked some interesting articles...
  21. @cnazrael89, Have you been referred to a specialist for your osteoporosis? If you don't mind me asking, what supplements beyond the obvious were recommend by your GI for osteoporosis. I'm curious because I have osteopenia and want to address it with supplements and exercise.
  22. Carrageenan is a food additive derived from seaweed, used as an emulsifier. It may also be a factor to consider for DH flares. It's used in dairy and dairy milk alternatives.
  23. Excellent! Thank you... that has just made my day😀. Living on the 52nd parallel, sunshine is scarce. I have osteopenia, what I'm really interested in is whether or not that can be reversed through nutrition. Collagen seems to play a big part in bone building, along with sufficient mineral intake and Vitamin k2. Any thoughts from anyone on this subject wo...
  24. I'm not a Diabetic so I can't really speak from a Diabetic's perspective. I've been told many times in the past few years to watch my blood sugar as they were creeping into the "we need to watch this closely" zone, yet I follow AIP and don't consume excess additional sugar. My iron levels have been borderline for a while, so when I focused on addressing that...
  25. You can feel quiet under the weather with a subclinical iron deficiency alone without technically being iron deficient anemic. Especially when we Coeliacs don't or can't eat the limited amount of iron fortified gluten-free foods. All my bloods have been perfect anemia wise and within the reference ranges ... the low end I might add, yet I was wasn't firing...
