I don't know whether you can get gluten from dog food, but what you're describing is plausible. Are you consuming any excess iodine in your diet or from supplements? Iodine causes DH to flare. In the past, my DH has flared from too much iodine in my diet.

Effects, and side effects, of Dapsone

You're welcome. I'm glad it's worked for you. People with DH are generally more sensitive to small amounts of gluten that most Coeliacs. -

Hey @statguymark, Welcome! Dapsone is a double edged sword. It does actually work very quickly depending on the dosage, within a few hours to 24 hours depending on how active your DH is. I believe it only stops the itch from an active DH flare up. The TTG antibodies will still remain in your system/dermis until they dissipate over time with a strict... -
@knitty kitty, One other question, I also tried some bacon rashers two days in a row for breakfast. Between watching histamine foods, avoiding excess iodine and not being able to handle gluten-free oats, it's hard to find something filling to eat for breakfast! Here's the ingredients ... Irish Pork (88%), Water, Salt, Preservatives (Sodium Nitrate,...

Thanks for this! I was curious about other people's experience on AIP and yours sounds all too familiar to me. It was homemade potato salad with new potatoes (skins on and chopped) and Hellman's Mayonnaise which contains paprika extract. I've read that the skins on potatoes have the most alkaloids. Nightshades are just as evil if not more than gluten! They...

I agree. The knowledge of the Admins and Mods here is incredible. Thiamine is a big one as it's hard to for Coeliacs to get it in sufficient amounts from food. I was taking 200mg of Magnesium Glycinate which kinda worked but since cranking up to 400-500mg daily in split doses, that has really helped. Hope you feel better soon.

I think Dairy and Soy are the main ones. Some Coeliacs can't tolerate certified gluten free Oats. Corn and eggs can also be problematic.

I wouldn't take what those test results say as gospel, more so as an indicator. I think you would be better served by keeping a food diary throughout the day to see how you react to certain foods. You can't exclude everything, so maybe just excluding foods that register a severe reaction or the heavy hitters that are common in most Coeliacs. If your vitamin...

I can confirm that dietary iodine does exacerbate DH along with omega 3 fish oil and cod liver oil ... it causes random pin pricks on the skin and itching. Here's a case report ... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6698721/

@Cramper, The moderators here (all Coeliac) are excellent and may offer better advice. First of all it is definitely worth pursuing a definitive diagnosis of Coeliac Disease either way if you can relate to being "glutened", as you may have Non Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity. However, you mentioned mucus and foul smelling with flatulence above which caught my...

How often do you test antibiodies?
Rogol72 replied to yuluyouyue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's really impressive. Well done!! My TTG levels last year were at 3.1, though I'm not sure what my IGA levels are. Time to get it checked again. -
I believe I have this! Serology tests all negative
Rogol72 replied to Hb333's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm a long time DH'er, 10+ years. The first and really only clue was the sudden onset of a rash on my back that itched like crazy which my Dermatologist thought was Eczema. Steroid cream did not help at which point a skin biopsy for DH was taken and came back positive. A subsequent intestinal biopsy via endoscopy was negative for Coeliac Disease! A definitive... -

The Canadian Coeliac Association have a very informative webinar on DH. It can be associated with Thyroid Disease or Type 1 Diabetes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAdmsNiyfOw -
I'm wondering if there is a genetic test that can identify how well a person metabolises vitamins and minerals? You could then tailor your supplementation to those needs to hit the sweet spot without over or under doing it and saving some money at the same time! For example, I can maintain a healthy Vitamin D level at the upper RDA with a relatively low dose...

Confused and a little scared...
Rogol72 replied to lrmilas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Speaking from experience, Flagyl is a really nasty antibiotic. It leaves a metallic taste in the mouth hours after taking it, wipes out the gut flora! I have found that being consistent with taking supplements is the only way to get well combined with a strict gluten-free diet and lots of patience ... at least in my case! Even trace amounts of gluten getting... -
Yes. If I get cross contaminated badly enough I get them. Like sudden sharp stabs out of nowhere, in the bottom right quadrant of my stomach. Also had them when I was consuming gluten-free breads and pastas.

Lab Help?
Rogol72 replied to Andi-is-sleepy15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A skin biopsy by a Dermatologist for DH would be definitive if that's possible before your gastro appointment while the rash is active. I was treated for Eczema with topical steroid cream which didn't help that much before a skin biopsy for DH came back positive. I had a subsequent negative SB biopsy for celiac disease. -
I thought it worth sharing this regarding the histamine and histadelia conversation ... https://www.natures-source.com/blogs/news/histadelia-a-primer-on-histamine-folate-and-methylation/ "Beware of excess folate in your diet, One thing to caution readers about concerns the role of folate - folic acid, in all of this chemistry. Nothing raises blood...

You're welcome! Always curious and like to know cause and effect. I take 20mg Opemrazole on rare similar occasions when glutened only as a last resort though. Anything acidic like coffee, citrus fruits etc. will add to the irritation. I can't remember the last time I consciously added black pepper of any kind to food.

Something to consider since it's so important to get the correct diagnosis either way. My DH was misdiagnosed as Eczema initially. The rash came and went and was treated with topical steroid cream. Then it came back with a vengeance and itched like crazy. So I had a skin biopsy which was positive for DH and Coeliac Disease. A subsequent endoscopy and small...

Great result indeed! So is it safe to say that Niacin is a good remedy for Sinusitis in general?
