I may be wrong, but having read many posts, it seems to me that "younger" people have a lot more difficulty with this diagnosis. I am wondering if anyone else thinks this may be true.
I think that I would have been more negatively affected emotionally/psychologically if I'd been diagnosed 25 or 30 years ago. First of all, it would have affected my social life more. Secondly, it would have been much more difficult to locate gluten free foods while I was in college. Also, in my case, I would not have had an awarenness of the interconnection of all of my symptoms when I was much younger, so maybe I would not have been so relieved to be rid of them. On top of all of that, although I miss the foods I can't have, at least I had the chance to enjoy those foods for 49 years. Someone who gets the diagnosis at a younger age may regret having those experiences stolen from them. Anyhow, that's just my take. It may be different for other people.
I was diagnosed when I was 21 (I think). I thought I was dying. The throwing up, pain, brain fog, constant sleeping, couldn't go to class, hardly enough energy to shower, going to doctor after doctor and getting nothing, etc. I was SO relieved to get an answer to what was wrong that it wasn't hard for me. I adjusted just fine. It was a major life change, but I didn't care because it helped me to get my life back.
The age group that I believe would be the hardest would be teenagers. They rely sooooo much on their peers and peer opinions. It would be terribly easy at that age to goof up and not follow the diet. Teen years are filled with gluteny foods (pizza, doughnuts, sandwiches). There is always a pizza party and friends to pressure you to have a slice

Those sound very yummy, however they only ship in a handfull of states (with the exception of their flour) according to their website. The whoopie pies on their site look SOO good!! Someone will have to eat one for me

Open Original Shared LinkOops, I guess they're called Kandy Kakes. They're amazing little cakes covered in peanut butter and enrobed in chocolate. They were my favorite treat pre-dx.
Ok, I couldn't wait... I had to try one... They are aboslutely AMAZING!!! They taste exactly like the real thing!!! For those of you who miss Kandy Kakes, you GOTTA try these!!! You can order them off their website at www.glutenfree4me.com. They are SO worth the $5!!! Now I'm wishing I had bought some of the other Gluten Free 4 Me stuff at the store. My nearest family owned market stocks their stuff.

What is a tandy cake? I have never heard of them before.

Good luck. I hope everything goes well.
Are you taking any probiotics to counter the effects of antibiotics?
OH yes lol Not sure what kind of shape I would be without them after so many rounds of antibiotics.....

Thanks for the kind words. I'm just nervous.......hopefully that goes away before Monday (prob not ha ) They called to confirm/remind me about my appointment today. The people all sound very nice at the office, I guess it's just the fear of "not knowing" that gets to me. Thanks again for the encouragement

You can also get them at www.minimus.biz much cheaper than gluten free.com so it pays to get a lot as well as other items they carry. It's all travel sizes of things.
I can spend so much time on that site just looking at all the fun travel size packages of things!! It's so fun!

I saw almost every moderator on here last night ... since I haven't heard anything from them, I am assuming we were keeping within the lines of respect that they expect on the board. So, we disagreed and got through it.

It is Scott's decision at this point as to what he does/doesn't do with the thread and the people involved in the argument. Moderators are continuing to monitor this thread. I do believe it would be best to just "drop it" and quit bringing it up.

I'm a bit nervous. One week from today I am going to see a G.I. I have been pretty sick ( you can read more about it here Open Original Shared Link )and my primary wanted me to go see the G.I.
I haven't been to anybody (other than my general pract.) since my diagnosis!!! I am pretty nervous and a bit scared.
My GP did run my celiac pannel recently and it came back "negative". However, the lab didn't send my exact numbers so I am waiting on medical records to send those to me. I was SUPER relieved to have that come back negative. That means I am doing what I need to do in terms of my celiac
I feel ok as long as I am on antibiotics, but when I stop those the pain comes back in my abdomen. I'm just scared of what it can be. I think probably diverticulitis, however with all the antibiotics I have been on I would have thought it would have cured up the infection and I would be 100% better, however I am not.
Last night I threw up and threw up and threw up so hard that I wet my pants and broke blood vessels in my eyes!! I'm sick of feeling sick!
Why am I posting this.......I don't know. I'm just nervous and I know you all know how that feels. Thanks for listening!

I would just like to remind everyone of the rules of the board. Golden rule #1 being the one that most fits the situation that I am seeing here. Please take some time to read them and follow them

I understand exactly what you are saying. What you need to understand is that I as a consumer (and a Celiac) have only so many choices when it comes to buying items such as bread, pasta and things like frozen waffles. It is not like when I go into any store there are 10 brands to choose from. The Van's waffles are the same product in Kroger, Wal-Mart or a speciality store. One of the best things that I have seen happen since being on the diet is the increased competition and I don't mean just Wal-Mart. The newest Kroger that opened recently near my home has the largest selection of gluten-free products (1/2 of an entire aisle) that I have seen. I don't dispute your claim that the health food store employees are both knowledgeable and friendly. When purchasing a loaf of bread or a bag of pasta I really don't need a lot of knowledge. I really haven't met anyone in any store (speciality or not) that wasn't friendly. Most of the food in the nearest health food store near me was gluten anyway. The way I saw it the gluten-free products were a "speciality item" in a "speciality store" which can mean only one thing and that is expensive. I still shop there but only for the pasta. I hope to see the prices on all gluten free products going down everywhere because the demand is increasing and the big boys have gotten into the market.
Tom
I couldn't agree more. I go where the prices are the lowest. Well said Tom!!

There it is. It is pretty small, so I printed it out. Obviously the crispy chicken salad has gluten, but the grilled chicken salad is gluten free.
Oh I found that...but it only lists for wheat, not rye, barley and oats. I know it might be a slim chance the other things (rye, barley and oats) would be an ingredient but you never know. Seeing as they DO offer the gluten free list and don't include those items I would still be pretty cautious about saying it's "gluten free". It is however wheat free.

I looked at Dairy Queen.com before I listed my message and under the nutritional information I did find it listed as gluten free. I never post information before checking!

Can you point me to this other gluten-free list then? Thanks!!

I was so happy when my husband found this last week. It is a wonderful salad. They make them fresh when ordered (at least at my DQ they do). I asked about gluten contamination and the salads are made in a completely different area. I ordered the salad today and there was so much good stuff on it, I had a hard time eating it all! It was sooooo good. They also have gluten free 1000 Island Dressing. The best part for me, is the fact that they make them as they are ordered, so I can order mine with no cheese!
BamBam
Be very very careful.....DQ has a gluten-free list and this salad is NOT on it. I would be very cautious!!
Here is the dq gluten-free list:

Please check the things I suggest for the lactose, eggs and food colorings as I am not checking bags just thinking of ideas for you
Tinkyada makes some cute "kid" pasta that comes in shapes. You could do the shapes pasta with some tomato sauce or a "fake" cheese sauce.
Hot dogs cut into octopusses (cut the hot dog on one end to make the tentacles and leave the other end for the "head" add some ketchup eyes and enjoy)
Peaches and pears can be made into fun edible animals with a few props...add some raisins for eyes or get creative and think of your own things to add
Hormel has some chicken breast that is good. It comes in their naturals line. It is sliced fajita style and would make great finger food. Says gluten-free right on the box!
What about apples with peanut butter on them. You said the kiddoes will eat the pb but leave the rice cake.......try it with apples and they can "dip" the apple into the pb. I have a great peanut butter apple dip recipe. I'll have to look it up ( I served it to my preschool class and they LOVED it!)
Bean burritoes are good. Corn tortilla, can of re-fried beans heat and eat!!

I guess the title pretty much says it all. Here's the story. I am getting married at the end of October. I had picked up a dress at a yard sale for a steal, almost a year ago. I liked it when I tried it on there, but when I got home and kept looking at it, it wasn't what I liked. In the spring, I was in Salvation Army, and there was a new with tags Jasmine dress on the rack. It was so pretty. It fit almost perfectly. I was going to get it dry cleaned, it was a bit dirty on the bottom from my guess is being dragged on the floor. In our state they will not spot clean at all, so I was told at the cleaners, that they could dry clean it but the beads on top may come off and they were not liable for that. I took the dress home (not cleaned) to think it over. My coworker had made a good point, it will get dirty the minute you get out of the church, so if it is not noticable not to worry about spending the money on dry cleaning. The other weekend I took it out, put it on to inspect the dirtiness. One thing I must have overlooked at the store, there are runs in the front of the dress, as if it got scratched by a finger nail or ring. It looks horrid. I was devastated. My fiance told me he wanted me to go buy a dress a new one, he didn't care about the price. He thinks every girl deserves the prettiest wedding dress.
Yesterday, while getting my maid of honor fitted, I tried on dresses. I had started looking and pinning the ones I wanted. I found the dress of my dreams. I tried on 10 dresses yesterday. This one was on sale for $200. For a brand new dress at David's Bridal, wow! They didn't have any of my size on the $99 rack.
Well, today I showed the dress to the girl next to me. She couldn't believe I bought another dress. Another coworker, couldn't believe it either, she exclaimed how many dresses do you need. Then she went on to say why am I having a wedding, I could use the money to buy a house. I am not even having a big fancy wedding, it is just a small little thing. When my good friend, came over and said Are you kidding about the dress, I said no and showed it to her. She loved it. I said I was ashamed to have bought another. She said I needed to be happy. Well the girl next to me, has turned around to say I said her and the second woman were being rude about my dress.
So now I feel horrible. I am not even excited about the wedding, I wish I could back and never tell anyone. I never feel comfortable at work, they are so odd about stuff. This sent me over the edge. I was outside in tears earlier. I am getting married. I should be happy. Instead I am hiding.
sorry for the rant, just wanted to get that off my shoulders.

I LOVE these..........we always put in white chocolate chips and top with a cream cheese frosting. Tooo good!! Enjoy them!

What exactly is Dr. Reddy's? I have never heard of it, perhaps I am a bit behind the times? Is it a generic drug manufacturer - a gluten-free resource?
Dr. Reddy's makes a handfull of generic medications (one of the many companies).
