  1. Good point, Jessica :-)

However, I don't even know if I have celiac yet! Blood test came back in normal ranges. Still need a colon. but need to wait to get insurance reinstated before I can even think about doing that:-0 I'm doing the best I can right now based on the conclusions of the elimination diet.

So let me ask you this question, is it possible to NOT have celiac but still have a gluten sensitivity. In that case, I wonder if the reaction, even though it's not celiac, is still capable of causing significant damage.

Hmmm, may wanna write that one down for the doc too.

Yes, I do believe it is. :) I wish you luck in finding out what is going on. Sure is frustrating isn't it?

    -Jessica

  2. I haven't had any issues with oats. I don't think I'm sensitive to small amounts of gluten. I guess I have to have a moderate amount to experience symptoms. So far with the elimination diet, I discovered I am able to tolerate oats. Just not bread, cereal, biscuits etc. Of course I haven't gotten myself all figured out yet, but I am working on it :-)

The muffins turned out good. I forgot to write sugar and cinnamon in my recipe above. Oops. They were a lot more moist using the gluten-free flour. I may need to reduce the liquid. The flavor was different, not bad just different. And they filled us up. Everybody had just one muffin. That's unusual!

Just thought I would share! i think it would definetly worth it to try this recipe with the xanthan or guar and see how it turns out.

I'm happy now, I had my muffins:-)

Symptoms or no symptoms any amount of gluten you are ingesting is doing damage to your intestines. Many people with celiac are completely asymptomatic (no symptoms), however they still have the damage. I would hate for you to continue damaging your insides over something as silly as oats. Please be careful!!

    -Jessica

  3. OMG, I'm sobbing with embarrassment! I will start referring to Jerry in the third person once again, to distance myself from him.

I DO believe this might just be the best plan of action to regain your selfworth! ha

Socks and sandals......now THAT is a fashion statement!!:lol:

    -Jessica

  4. From the company's website:

"Manny's offers a full line of authentic Corn and Flour Tortillas,...."

I think it's best to use this site as a general guide to remember that technically, anybody can post anything here. It's best to personally verify information you read on this forum (like you did, by reading the ingredients) before taking anything as fact and comprimising your health because of something you read on a message board :)

If Manny's is the spelling for the ones that AL is speaking of......then the corn tortillas ARE on the list of gluten free products from hormel. I am guessing you (AL) picked up the flour tortillas by mistake...when the poster was most likely referring to corn tortillas.

Here is the hormel list from their website:

Do you have a listing of gluten free products?

We are providing the following list of products as a general guideline for those presently produced and distributed in the United States with formulas that do not contain gluten in the form of wheat, rye, oats, and barley. Although our products are labeled in compliance with government regulations, it is always necessary to read the labels on the products to determine if the food product meets your required needs. Parents and individuals with food allergies and/or food intolerances are responsible for reading the label of all products they intend to use regardless of how the product is represented on this site. If you have any questions, please call our Customer Service Representatives at 1-800-523-4635.

  5. I am going to to try and not sound too mean about this post but I get tired of someone saying in here a product is glueten free and when you go and buy it or to buy it , it says right in the ingrediants that it is made with flour ( wheat flour) I am talking about Mannies tortias someone posted in here that they were glueten free ( well they are not glueten free!!!) Now in all fairness maybe they make different types maybe a wheat flour one and a corn flour one if that is the case I stand corrected and will accept blame for my mistake but please dont post that a product is if your not sure or it isnt.

    Thank You

    AL

Is this possibly a company that makes corn AND flour (wheat) tortillas? I did a search of the board using your spelling of Mannies and have come up with NO posts on them with the exception of yours?!?! If you can provide the correct spelling...possibly we can do a search of their website to do some checking into it. It is always good to check ingredient lists for yourself. Mistakes happen. Only YOU are responsible for your health.

  6. OK, I've been known to wear white socks with sandals...that's not dorky enough to count right?

I don't talk about the price of gas, but I sure think about it. :)

The color of the socks don't matter Jerry.......it's the concept. Socks DO NOT belong with sandals!!!! Oh goodness...............you SO told on yourself on this one!!

Now that your house is clean you can start on mine! :P:lol: BTW, I won't even complain if you ONLY clean 2/3 of it haha

  8. Susan is easily amused and is glad Carla is happy

Susan thinks that Emily can/may (Susan knows she is speaking to a language teacher, here:)) speak in third person singular BEFORE the 500th post. ;)

Susan does not like talk of sports on this thread about nothing. no, no, no. Well, at least it's not football. Susan HATES any mention of a certain team in her native town.

But I will forgive you the hockey talk.

Um, it IS hockey we're speaking of, right?

Susan is finished, Susan is avoiding the dread task of extreme cleaning for houseguests, and if you see me on here again, SCREAM at me to go.

    Harrumph!

I see you posted again , and said we are to SCREAM at you. After the day I have had, Screaming sure sounds like fun so here I go.............

  10. Hi Jessica, If the yogurt worked for the first run just keep it up. I am also getting over a bout with diverticulitis, it hit a couple of weeks ago and lead to a lot of tests. Unfortunately my doc didn't recognize it as such until last week when I finally got a script for a couple of antibiotics. Make sure they check your scripts for gluten, the Flagyl can be hard to find unless generic and those in particular need to be absolutely verified. Notify your doctor right away if you notice any unusual symptoms. Some of the newer antibiotics can have some very intense side effects.

I always do my own calling on the meds. My 2nd job is a registered pharmacy technician. :) So I figure I may as well do it myself and hear what the people actually say instead of what is relayed to me. I prefer it that way.

    -Jessica

  11. Well I am feeling considerably better than I was. I talked to the Dr. who agreed that I had diverticulitis of the ascending colon. He said it was pretty rare to see people with it in the ascending colon. I then reminded him that I was one rare chick  .

He put me on Flagyl 500mg and Bactrim DS. Those had me feeling pretty darn good. However fever jumped back up again on Monday and some pain resurfaced...so I am on to round 2 of antibiotics. I start them Thursday. This time I will be taking cipro and Flagyl (I think).

The point of this story is.......with all these high powered/multiple doses of antibiotics I had probably better pick up some probiotics or something to keep the good bacteria going in there. Any suggestions?

I am eating some yogurt.....is that good enough? or should I do more...like with capsules of a probiotic....and please be brand specific if you say YES do the probiotic :) Thanks!!

    -Jessica

  12. No, it's not, Lisa. I bought it...... <_<

I stood at the check-out stand and flipped through it and when I couldn't find the article I put it back. I wasn't going to spend almost $4.00 until I was sure it was in there!! ha I figured I would come here and find out if I had skipped a page with the article. I could always go back and pick it up.......I'm starting to get sad about this article. The longer the wait the less I think it is going to be published <_< . Darn celebs and their issues.....they take up too many pages in the magazine. ha

    -Jessica
