  1. I finally had a couple of min. to jot an e-mail off to people magazine. Here is what I wrote (short and sweet).

I just wanted to drop you a note to say THANK YOU!! I have heard that you are putting together an article on Dana Korn and Celiac Disease. Thank you for creating awareness of Celiac!! I can't wait to read the article.

    Sincerely,

I hope everyone takes a few seconds to do the same!!

    -Jessica

  2. I'm just seeing this now, so you may have already left for your test.

Good luck, and I hope it provides some answers for you :)

Thanks Patti......I go in for it at 2:00. Going to teach 1/2 day then head out for the test. I am a bit nervous......hopefully I don't "glow green" afterwards ;) Thanks for your kind words.

    -Jessica

  3. I think it's cool that KC seems to have some options for Celiacs, and Hy-Vee stores in particular seem to be very Celiac-friendly. About the Olivia's products, let me know if you ever notice any of their baked goods that are also casein/milk-free. Everything I checked had milk in it, and my middle son is very casein-intolerant. : (

Great to see a post from KC.

    April

If you contact her, maybe she would be willing to make something without milk/casein. Never hurts to ask :)

    -Jessica

  4. I go in tomorrow for my pipida scan. I am injected with radioactive junk and then have to lay still for 2+ hours. I am very NOT excited. I loaded my mp3 player with new music so I am set for my 2 hour span :) Hopefully this will give some answers as I am still in alot of pain and still have a fever. It's wearing me out.

    -Jessica

  5. I'm in love with a girl named Olivia..........no this is not a new relationship. This is a new found baker. Although I don't think the bakers name is Olivia! ha

I first tried Olivia's Oven products at Waldo Pizza in KC,MO. She supplies the gluten free crusts to Waldo's. They were SUPER!!!

Then yesterday I was at Hy-Vee in Lawrence and over their announcement system comes this announcement about Hy-Vee now carrying Olivia's Oven products. I was SOOOO excited. I searched the store and finally found the display. They had brownies, cookies, three kinds of bread AND apple cinnamon doughnut holes!!

I HAD to buy the doughnut holes. It was SO worth it. These are little bites of heaven.

The moral to the story is........check out Olivia's oven, you will not be disapointed!

    Open Original Shared Link

On her website it says that Hy-Vee is now carrying her products so if you have a hy-vee around go and get some apple cinnamon doughnut holes!! MMMMMMmmmm

If you don't live near by call her up and beg her to ship you some. They are SOOO good.

    -Jessica

btw.......I have no financial interest in this company, and don't even know the owners, just in LOVE with her products. :)

  6. If anyone has trouble accessing the site (i.e. your not using Windows and Internet Explorer) the site is meant for Windows users only... but so long as you actuyally do have flashplayer installed it will work if you go DIRECTLY to

    Open Original Shared Link

quite why people bother writing websites that only allow internet explorer and windows is beyond me but..???

Ok now I get it its full of spyware wouldn't work on a secure browser...

anyway, its nice to know it tells me I have an email from one of 3 pretty girls who'd like to go out with me ????

    Just click the picture ???

I've never had any trouble accessing the site. I've never gotten any e-mails from it either?!?!

  7. Top Secret Recipes has a recipe for big mac sauce that is awesome. You should make it a day ahead of time so that the flavors can mesh well before you use it. I've tried it a couple of times and LOVE IT! I use Kraft Catalina dressing in mine vs their french listed (same thing basically).

Open Original Shared Link then do a search for big mac or mcdonalds...or just look through all the cool recipes they have. Some are free and some are not. Big Mac Sauce is a freebie!!

    -Jessica

BTW.........if you haven't checked out top secret recipes it is a WONDERFUL thing for us......recipes to make "knockoffs" of some of our favorite dishes. Just do some subbing and they are gluten free!! AWESOME!!

  8. I think the chief will end up staying, and that this is a way of driving a wedge between Derrick and Meredith.

I feel bad for George's wife :( (why can't I think of her name?)

Last night, my husband came home right about the time the surgeons pulled the fish out of the guy--he says "what's that?" I said "believe me, you don't want to know"

I didn't catch the last 15 minutes or so--will watch the repeat tonight.....

I do not feel TOOOOO bad for Callie (george's wife). She DID have that night with McSteamy while she and George were having some troubles. George didn't ever find out about that (I think). Possibly it will all come to a head soon with both of their infidelities.

    -Jessica

  9. Oh, there is that....you're right. I think he will stay - - they could not lose his character - I just don't know if he'll stay as Chief. So....Derrick will just have the AMBITION and goal to be chief, hence the breakup, whether he becomes Chief or not.

Um, BTW (raising hand here), *I* would go out on a date with current Chief....and I AM old enough! ;) He is fabulous!

Oh, and can't we also see a situation brewing with "Ava" and Korev (sp?) - - she gets prettier every week - - they'll take those things off her teeth - what is THAT about, BTW? - and then he'll fall in love with his "creation" - - note that he is NOT into Addison Sheppard - who looks like she'll be leaving shortly anyway.....

okay - better get ready for work now! B)

I think that the chief will stay. Derrick will break up with Meredith to become chief, and the breakup will be for nothing cause the real chief stays on........and Derrick will go back to Merridith groveling like always.....and she will not forgive him this time. Enter a new McDreamy :P

I also wonder about Ava and Alex.........I think they will do something there...even if it's not a long term relationship thing.

The previews for next week (which is a 2 hour by the way) shows Addison heading off on her journey to a fertility clinic to get preggers(this is where the show spins off).

    -Jessica

  10. "George - you're my penis fish." (can I say that word here?)

    :ph34r::huh::o:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Funnier words I have not heard recently! :P

I also loved that comment........funny stuff.

What about Derrick and Mer???? He let her leave!?!?!?!! He slept with her and then let her walk out the door feeling crappy inside?!?!! AND blamed it on her......"you didn't try to swim and you know how to swim"...what a load of crap.....he wants her to go because he wants to be chief.....what a jerkehead!!

    -Jessica

  11. spread far and wide! if we hit 500 markers, i think we have to make a donation to see more than 500 of the markers at a time (I'm not sure how that will work). but I for one, would be happy to donate to the mapping org that hosts/makes the tool if we can make the resource that robust. :D

I know that I have one guy on the site who is from Australia and he said he was able to add restaurants in Australia......soooooo if this keeps up we will probably all have to make donations! ha However, that is NOT a bad thing :) What a great resource!! Thanks for thinking of it.

    -Jessica

  12. Oh, Jessica, you really are missing something!

Sam OBVIOUSLY has medical issues connected to gluten that were missed by his/her doctor (just like the rest of us)-- rash, overweight, and diabetes. Obviously, the gluten-free diet IS the only "cure" to getting rid of Sam's symptoms.

So what if Sam only tried the diet as a weight-loss cure, and only then discovered the relationship to other health problems? How many people here stumbled on the gluten-free diet after noticing that the low-carb diet made them feel better? Worse, how many people here noticed that they felt better on the low-carb diet, but never put it all together until they were diagnosed by blood work and/or biopsy?

Sam's doctor was not smart or savvy enough to order a gluten panel. Sam was inspired to try the gluten-free diet because of Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

Shame on you for missing that Sam, too, has "a genetic disease that requires that he (or she) follow a gluten-free diet.". Sam just found out a different way than you did. In my eyes, your missing it is worse than Sam's doctor missing it. You should know better.

Dear Fiddle-Faddle...thanks so much for the public flogging. I do SO appreciate it. As I previously said to Sam....I appologize if I am missing something, but the way I am reading his/her letter is that they are on the diet as a fad. People here are not on the diet by "CHOICE" they are here because it is our way to avoid cancer, infertility, etc etc etc.....Didn't write my opinion to get your panties in a wad dear fiddle faddle. My appologies

    -Jessica

  13. Thank You Elizabeth for bringing this topic out of the closet.

After my last visit to my doctor for my 3 month diabetes check-up, I returned home more frustrated than ever. After three years of changing and refining my eating to reflect the most "healthy diet" I could follow, I stll didn't lose weight and the doctor was recommending more medication.

I prayed that morning for help, because I no longer knew what to do and the additional medication was making my face rashy.

I turned on "the view" to find you talking about Celiac disease and decided to try going gluten-free. It wasn't hard, as I was getting tired of all that wholesome whole-grain bread that was suppose to be making me "healthy".

I made a list of the foods I liked, that were not wheat, barley, etc as well as the ones you listed and began looking for recipes I could cook. Within 6 weeks I have lost 15-20lbs, dropped my sugar levels so much, that my doctor has recommended cutting medication, below what it was before the rashy face; and I have a new lease on life. I can't believe the energy levels. I guess because I have had to deal with this for so long, I just got used to being tired and thought it was normal or because I was old. Except for the wheat, I was already eating well: 2-3 fruits, 4-5 Vegetables, proteins and good fats, I just had to figure what kind of complex carbs I could eat. I found they mostly come down to Root vegetables, Squashes, Corn, Beans and Rice. This is of course before I learned about all those other flours, mixes and desserts available. I now understand why I was so drawn to asian and mexican cooking. So, I've begun to look up some of those old recipes.

I thought I would crave the bread so I started my day with a high protein breakfast over the next few days and found that I not only lost my cravings for wheat I lost my cravings for sugar. I also found my natural hunger levels and found myself putting the fork down sooner. Hurray! I can't remember doing that ever. I have compusively dieted since I was a teenager only getting bigger each time. This is the first time in my life that I'm not afraid of food. I don't know if there is any proof for my theory, but I actually think the diabetes may have resulted, because the sugar has been the only thing getting though my digestion.

Has Elizabeth influenced you decision to go gluten-free?

    Dear Sam-

Maybe I am missing something in your letter, but it sounds to me as if you are just trying this "gluten free diet' as a weight loss fad diet for you. The majority of folks here are on the gluten free diet because they have a genetic disease that requires they follow the diet. The gluten free diet is the only "cure" to getting rid of our symptoms. Please forgive me if I am missing something in your post about a diagnosis.

Elizabeth has not influenced me to "go gluten free". My test results influenced me, the pain I had, and the "wanting to get my life back", influenced me to go gluten free. I am glad that she is bringing some awareness to our disease, but I am not gluten free because of her.

    -Jessica

  14. Got the results of my blood tests back......liver and such are normal......he did say that my white count is really high. He doesn't understand why.

Also got my ultrasound results back today. They are "normal". So he is ordering another test. It is the one where you are injected with the radioactive material and you have to lay still under a machine FOREVER and wait while it goes through your system. I've had it done before (while trying to be diagnosed with celiac) and it is pure TORTURE!

I am feeling a bit sorry for myself this evening. I guess I was hoping I would have my answers with the 1st test and get the surgery to make the pain go away. I am exhausted, hurting, and frustrated. It feels like they are taking a long time to figure it all out. :( I'll stop whining now

    -Jessica
