Has anyone found my top secret spy recipe for the garlic mashed taters yet? They never taste the same as outback when I make them at home

I had lunch delivered at work today from Subway. I went out on there website and they have several items that are gluten free. I ordered the tuna fish salad with some extra veggies, and I don't seem to be having any problems. I want to try their grilled chicken breast and baby spinach salad. I am so excited about finding a new place that I can eat a couple things, I'm just very excited.
Daisy Duke
For me, that place would be too high on the list of "possibility of cross contamination" to even think about eating there.

Any updates? Did they make the cut. They should be hearing back by now I would think. This was all done forever ago
-Jessica
-
If you contact them they will give you a list. It is supposedly updated monthly with gluten-free products. With that said........I contacted them, got the list, told the manager about my diet etc etc.....and still got TERRIBLY sick eating with them. I won't ever go back there. So be very careful.

If you are talking about the Kraft south beach diet bars... Kraft will list any gluten containing ingredients on the labels. All you have to do is read. I have eaten the peanutbutter and also the cinnamon with no troubles. They are good when you are in a rush or no food nearby. Enjoy.

Yeah, "MAY BE SUITABLE FOR A GLUTEN-FREE DIET"...not very reassuring. I did read that, and thought it was pretty ridiculous. I mean, is it gluten-free or not? Thank you for all those numbers, Jessica. I will call them up. Actually, I will search for a Canadian number. I forget which country has questionable maltodextrin...is it the States or the UK where there's no guarantee of it being gluten-free?
Sorry didn't even look to see where you were from. Here are some Canadian numbers.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers! Amazing how it can all help so much...
The nutrtional feed that John is getting is called Resource 2.0, by Novartis. I have heard that it is, in fact, gluten-free, but I cannot help but suspect...If it really is gluten-free, then we know for sure that John is not gluten-intolerant, as this is the only thing he is consuming. Can't imagine any way it could be cross-contaminated (although you never know in our less-than-perfect medical settings of today)! I visited him yesterday, and it makes me so sad to see him for all kinds of obvious reasons, but mainly due to his great discomfort from the acid reflux, the diahrrea, the low haemoglobin...and he cannot complain or speak clearly to us anymore. If I find out that his liquid food is gluten-free, then I can move on to other concerns. I know very little about casein intolerance, but I suspect that the symptoms are similar to gluten intolerance. And I DO know that the supplement is FULL of milk...
Here are some numbers for the USA Novartis company sites. Call and as for their pharmacist or their Chemist and ask about the gluten free status of the product. They should easily be able to help you.

Quick question is dextrose from maize ok?
Maize is just corn. Corn isn't a grain that is a problem for people on the gluten free diet. As long as corn is the only ingredient you are safe

That is great that you are wanting to learn more to help your Dad. I am sure he is very grateful for your understanding and willingness to learn.
You have come to the right place. Reading the posts on this site is the perfect place to learn more about celiac. You can also post if you have questions on ingredients or products. We are all here to help.
As you may or may not know, Celiac is genetic. Have you been tested yet? It is a good idea for all first degree relatives to be tested for celiac.
Keep posting and reading. Soon you will be an "old pro" at Celiac info.

I was just looking back at my old posts and found my 1 year post. Yesterday I celebrated my 4 year anniversary. Hard to believe it has been 4 years now. On my way to makin it 5 years gluten-free WooT!!

i called and the ppl were very friendly. they asked what i liked to drink and told me if is was or was not gluten-free. i was advised to stay away from ALL fraps (as they do not clean the blenders after every drink) so if i want a cold drink i ask for it over ice. carmel machiattos are my fave!!!
Katie618-
They are asking about the bottled frapps that you can buy in grocery and convenience stores. The bottled ARE safe. I have no clue about the things you buy in the regular starbucks coffee stores. I think they have an ingredient listing online (I can't remember for sure).
Anyways just wanted to make sure that there wasn't mis-information due to not understanding the question. Origional question was about the bottled drinks............which ARE safe Enjoy.

Bob's gluten-free mix already has tapioca and potato in it. I would just use the mix (unless you are needing more than 3/4 cup) In that case add in some of the tapioca and potato to make up to the amount you are needing. Hope your brunch turns out great!!
-Jessica
I hope someone is on here who can give me a quick answer. I'm out of my normal flour mixture (br. rice, potato starch, tapioca starch) and want to make one of Nikkiuk's sausage rolls for brunch. I have about 3/4 C of Bob's Red Mill G F Flour Mix, some potato starch and tapioca starch. I'm thinking that a mixture of the Bob's and potato starch would work best for the pastry crust. Does anyone have any suggestions? -
Santa brought me cashola..........I have been wanting a Kitchenaid mixer and I also want/need a new couch. Sooo I'll be getting one or the other.
He also brought me a radar gun. Yes a hotwheels radar gun. I clocked the cat doing 2mph this morning. HAHA This thing is going to be a blast!!

There are a couple of ways you could handle this.
#1: Pass the food off to someone who can eat/use it. Say thank you to whoever it came from. Show that you are grateful and move on.
#2 Say thank you, explain to them why you can't eat it but again tell them thank you for thinking of you. Then pass the food on to someone who can use it.
My grandmother gave me some food this year in my christmas sock. It was something I wasn't sure of so I just gave it to my brother. I have tried explaining things to her for the last several years, it isn't sinking in so I gave up. I am just passing the food on and forgetting it lol.
Hope one of those decisions works for you!!

Ok well the pot luck was this morning. I took a ham/mushroom/onion/cheese frittata. It went over GREAT!! Everybody was asking "who made this, it is so good" ha Here is the recipe I used.
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 large russet potatoes, peeled and shredded
1 onion, diced
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese or enough to cover top of frittata
12 eggs, beaten
Ham, diced or chunked
1 small can of mushrooms drained
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. When the skillet is hot, add the potatoes, and fry until crispy and golden, about 15 minutes. Reduce heat to medium, and add onions. Cook, stirring, until softened. Season with salt and pepper.Add ham and mushrooms. Pour eggs over the potatoes and onions.
Place the skillet in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until eggs are firm. Remove from the oven, and sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. Return to the oven for about 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
OR you can also cook it on the stovetop. This is what I did. Covered the mixture with a lid and cooked until it was set up. Topped with the cheese and let it melt. It turned out great!!
ENJOY!!

I make this one all the time. Hope you like it.

Gluten Free Cornbread
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Liquid (milk, juice, water)
2 T Sugar
2 T Oil
1/2 C White Rice Flour
1/2 C Corn Meal
2tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
Mix well. Bake 425 for 17-20 min. Makes 6 muffins
I doubled this recipe and baked it in a small rectangle pan. The recipe comes from the back of the Bob's Red Mill White Rice Flour Sack.

As you all can see, I changed my user name from Ursula to Ursa Major, because I didn't want to be too easily found on this forum through a Google search.
Anyway, unfortunately, it didn't work. As my profile still comes up as the first result when putting into Google 'Ursula celiac', even with the new name. I guess that once something is linked with certain key words, it will forever link to it, even if you change the key search terms.
Does anybody know how to fix that?
You still have the name Ursula in your signature. Possibly that is what allows it to be linked to you. Ursula isn't too common of a name. I'm sure it would be easy to find you by putting in celiac and ursula.

Jessica, you are so NOT a nerd. I do the exact same thing and I'm sure there are plenty of others on here that do it as well. My hubbie always makes fun of me for it, but it makes me queasy to smell bread, so...
Aww thanks
-
I use Bob's all the time and have not had any trouble with them. The flours with the gluten-free symbol are produced on dedicated lines in a dedicated facility. Check their website for more info on that. I feel safe using them.

The picture in your avatar of the cookies looks great. I have made the peanutbutter cups using the wonderful 4 ingredient recipe for pb cookies. Put them in mini muffin cups and baked. Put in a hershey kiss when they came out and they were awesome!!
Okay guys, I've been making Christmas cookies all afternoon today. Here are the recipes that worked really well with gluten free flours... I used this flour blend: 3 parts white rice, 2 parts potato starch, 1 part tapioca starch... Then I added 1 teaspoon xantham gum per cup of flour blend. I'll be adding more recipes as I make more. For gluten free cookies, they generally require a lightly greased cookie sheet, so disregard all of the ungreased sheets in the directions.I'm currently baking Russian Tea Cakes. If they turn out well I will post the recipe. I think I'm also going to try oatmeal cookies with quinoa flakes as well as coconut cookies.

There are times that I even hold my breath going down the bread isle..........lol I'm SUCH a nerd

I've never had any trouble with the Rice or Corn Crunchems

Sounds like a great recipe to make for myself sometime!! I'm just not going to spend the money on the expensive flour for people who don't need it lol I can't wait to try it for ME though
-Jessica
I know you do not want to fuss with flour sbut these are so easy and a huge hit. They dont need frosting because its breakfast... But they make great muffins. You could even eliminate the strawberry.Strawberry Cr
Would You Eat It?

Last week Dad had made supper. Cooked a roast. He went to check the roast and set the lid down on a area that had chunks of cracker crumbs (from his salad ). He then put the contaminated lid back onto the roast. I refused to eat the roast then.........he was very mad. Would you have eaten it??
Last night was again visiting my parents. Dad was cutting a large steak for everyone. He had just eating a salad with crackers. He cut a bite of meat stuck it into his cracker contaminated mouth and continued cutting the steak with that fork.........I again refused to eat the contaminated meat. He was again very mad. Would you have eaten it?
He just isn't understanding why I am refusing to eat the foods that he has contaminated.
Would you have done the same thing in these situations or would you have done something different?
