  1. Hi

I have to take antibiotics because i have chest cough/infection. generally antibiotics make me really nauseous and hurt my stomach. does anyone know any good ones that are senstiive to the stomach?

    Thanks

    Jess

I haven't met an antibiotic yet that doesn't cause me some sort of stomach ache. The e-myacin family is really horrid for me. Causes stomach cramps and Diarrhea. Zithromax is sort of in that family. It may be that you just have some GI effects from antibiotics. You may just have to take them anyways if you want to get rid of the infection. That is what I always end up doing.

  2. Ok...then. Jessica will be the "wanderer"....the free-spirited girl who comes and goes as she pleases. :D

Oh well I'm the type of girl who will never settle down,

Where handsome guys are well you know that I'm around

I kiss 'em and I love 'em cause to me they're all the same

I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em they don't even know my name

They call me the wanderer , yeah I'm a wanderer,

I go around around around around

Well there's Moe on my left and Harry on my right,

And Jake is the guy well that I'll be with tonight,

And when he ask me which one I love the best,

I tear open my shirt and I show Rick on my chest, (ya ok maybe not so much here)

    'Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah I'm a wanderer

I roam around around around around hmmm

Well I roam from town to town, I go through life without a care,

And I'm as happy as a clown,

With my two fists of iron, but I'm goin' nowhere.

Yeah I'm the type of girl that likes to roam around

I'm never in one place I roam from town to town

And when I find myself fallin' for some guy

I hop right in that car of mine, I drive around the world

    And I'm a wanderer, yeah I'm a wanderer

I roam around around around around hmmm

:lol: OK I had to change the lyrics but that is what your post made me think of Rachel. That song immediately poped into my head!

Our chickens will have to be trained like our geese.

Your parents place sounds wonderful. I love the country....just don't live in it. My hubby drives all day and we don't see him much some days as is so we live close to work.

You can live on the island.....Celia might want to join you....she loves the ocean.

Parents place is beautiful. My dad is a farmer and Rancher. Lots of open space. Ponds to fish in. Love to go visit because dad always says "need any veggies or meat". YEP!! Load me up please!! Farm raised beef is the best. It tastes nothing like store bought meat. YUCK!

    -Jessica

  3. Thanks Chelsea! That's a good one.

Where else can you find the space for the ample gardens, 100% grass fed beef need lost of pasture as well as dairy cows and we have a 5000 acre horse ranch.

Well with the exception of dairy cows and the 5000 acre horse ranch...........my parents house! ha :P

I'll live on my island, motor boat in for gluten free goodies and conversation. Meanwhile you can visit my lovely island whenever :)

Do you really want all of those free range chickens pooping all over the pristine scenery? :o

  4. It was Shel Silverstein :)

He also wrote Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, and the Giving Tree, among others.

I Love Shel Silverstein poems. My Favorite is "Sick"

    Sick

    by Shel Silverstein

"I cannot go to school today,"

    Said little Peggy Ann McKay.

"I have the measles and the mumps,

A gash, a rash and purple bumps.

My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,

I'm going blind in my right eye.

My tonsils are as big as rocks,

    I've counted sixteen chicken pox

    And there's one more-that's seventeen,

And don't you think my face looks green?

My leg is cut, my eyes are blue,

    It might be instamatic flu.

I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,

I'm sure that my left leg is broke-

My hip hurts when I move my chin,

    My belly button's caving in,

My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,

My 'pendix pains each time it rains.

My nose is cold, my toes are numb,

I have a sliver in my thumb.

My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,

I hardly whisper when I speak.

My tongue is filling up my mouth,

I think my hair is falling out.

My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,

    My temperature is one-o-eight.

My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,

There is a hole inside my ear.

I have a hangnail, and my heart is - what?

What's that? What's that you say?

    You say today is...Saturday?

G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

  5. Jessica,

We need your interests as well unless you just want to be a visitor. :P

I'm not much of a city girl. I'm more of a living out in the country girl. Possibly I'll just come to town for gluten free food occasionally. Maybe I'll live on my own island out in your ocean? I dunno.

    -Jessica

  6. I googled it and came up with this info from a site:

What is the difference between celiac disease and gluten intolerance?*

The difference is that between two immune related reactions, allergy and intolerance. I asked the question of the technical difference between the two some time ago and got no response. It's not based on overt symptoms, that's for sure. We're also not talking about the difference between latent celiac disease and overt weight-loss, apple belly celiac disease. You can be allergic and intolerant of the same substance or food In the case of milk, it's lactose(milk carbohydrate) intolerance and milk protein allergy.

My non-professional stab at the difference between intolerance and allergy then. Both can lead to intestinal damage. There's a table in Marsh's book showing that --page 155 , figure 6.13. Type 3 damage ("flat destuctive" ) can occur from milk, soya, egg.... as well as celiac disease.

The reaction to an intolerance seems to be that the substance is not digested. The immune part of the response involves only the circulating immunoglobins IgA, maybe IgG and related immune cells, receptors.

The immune reaction to an allergy involves IgE. The substance may still be digested, but there may be allergic responses elsewhere outside the gut.

Apple belly celiac disease is an intolerance. The problems elsewhere in the body, except for cancer, are related to nutritional deficiencies. The link to other autoimmune diseases is statistical genetics when two (or more) genes for each of two conditions are close together.

The only other thing that I can think of is that sometimes celiac causes bloating. Bloating rounds out the belly much like an apple is round. .......just a thought.

    -Jessica

  7. Lots of liquids too, but I'm sure you know that.

    I hope this passes soon.

I just looked at your member number......boy you're old. Just kidding, old as far as member length.

I'll have to check out Molly's number since she's been here a while too. :D

Yep I sure hope it passes soon also........it's annoying! ha

Yep I am old. celiac3270, Richard (lovgrove) , Plantime (I think), and not sure who else all came from the "old" celiac.com board over to this "new" board. I'm not sure who else is still around after all these years. I'm sure I have forgotten someone  Here is the link to the old board Open Original Shared Link it still has posts and info on it

end of celiac.com history lesson class :P

  8. i'm pretty sure the "natural flavor" in blue bunny rainbow sherbert is suspect. i was glutened after drinking some punch made with it and ginger ale. i've ruled out almost everything else i ate that day. and it wasn't lactose intolerance reaction--it was a definite gluten-ing. beware of the bunny.

Blue bunny follows the policy of disclosing info on their labels. I have had the rainbow sherbert and have never had any troubles. Infact, never had any troubles with anything from their company.

If you are a person with dairy troubles it DOES contain whey and milk.

    Did you check the gingerale?

    -Jessica

  9. My, we're getting hostile, aren't we? My conviction is that Celiacs vary in their sensitvity. Just trying to be practical that's all. A celiac may be in a situation where they have to chose between Taco Bell and going hungry.

    Steve

Nope not hostile at all. Just saying that if you care to damage yourself that is fine. Please do not suggest to others that it is a good idea.

    -Jessica :)

  10. I know all you girls (and some boys) are good at being silly. B) Come on over to my thread about a celiac song and help me out. So far I have me about hurling at wal-mart today. I'm sure somebody can come up with something better than that. :P

Ms SillyYak Screwed is going to go play in her "famous but un-named" brothers recording studio and sing it! ha  It will be a hoot...come over and help.

    -Jessica

  11. Does anyone have any good appetizer receipes that are of course gluten-free? Looking for some fairly easy receipes. Open to any suggestions.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure how fancy you are looking for. I personally don't have the need for anything too fancy so here is what I sometimes serve for appetizers/ finger foods.

Rotel cheese dip and mission corn chips

Hot Artichoke Dip with veggies and tortilla strips

Hillshire farm little smokies in bbq sauce

    appetizer meatballs

    fiesta taco dip (layer dip)

    Salsa and tortilla chips

Those are some off the top of my head.

    -Jessica

  12. my daughters eating disorder was going to kill her long before celiac would have taken it's final toll, if we had not hospitalized her. eating disorders are definitely a deadly disease. maybe they are more interesting for talk shows because they are so hard to understand. celiac disease is a genetic disease, so we know exactly where it comes from----maybe that is why oprah's show has ignored it.

sooooo, does anyone think i should attempt the eating disorder/celiac disease angle? where would i send my inquiry and info to?

I think it would be a good idea. It would spotlight 2 important diseases/disorders.

    -Jessica

  13. I am having a colonoscopy and endoscopy at the same time next tuesday. Just curious if anyone else has had this done? I am very glad they are taking care of both of them at the same time. I am assuming I will be completely knocked out. Hope so... Stories to share?

I had both done on the same day also. Like Leah said, the prep is worse than the procedure. I HIGHLY recommend getting some of the "wet" toilet paper or wet flushable wipes. Your bottom gets sooo sore from going and going.

The big joke everybody liked to tell me before my scopes was "make sure to request that they do the upper first" to which I would say "why?" and they would say "well you know they use the same scope for both, I'd rather have it go down my throat 1st then up the other.....rather than up the other and THEN down my throat" :o I found it funny the 1st time.........after that ......not so much :P

I was very tired after my scopes. I was also very very very sick during that time. All I wanted to do was come home and sleep. Sleep is exactly what I did for the rest of the day.

They do pump you full of air during the lower....so be expecting to be full of "gas" after. This is normal.

Try not to stress..........it's a simple procedure and you will be fine.

    -Jessica

  14. I'm with you on that one! There really ought to be a law about the font size. I'm actually looking for a magnifying glass that will fit in my wallet with the credit cards for that very reason!

There is also one called OWL (Optical Wallet Light) It is the size of a credit card, fits into your wallet slots for easy storage.

The Credit Card Size Magnifier With Built-In Light!

The OWL is an amazing credit card sized light and magnifier. OWL is easy to use and carry - since it is credit card size, it will fit in wallets and pocketbooks with ease! Just push the button on the bottom of the credit card sized OWL and you'll activate its ultra bright light. Combined with the powerful magnifying lens, now you can have magnification & light when you need it! Magnify books, menus, labels, maps, prescriptions and more!. Even light up keyholes and other objects in the dark!

Looks pretty cool and perfect for trips to the grocery store.

    -Jessica

  15. Don't misunderstand me. I'm not recommending eating mainsteam oats as a breakfast cereal. My point was that there is probalby so little oatmeal in the Taco Bell hard tortillas that many celiacs will not be bothered by the miniscule amount of CC on an occasional basis. At least, that is my experience when eating at Taco Bell.

    Steve

Knowingly contaminating yourself is just not a smart idea. You are suggesting that people contaminate themselves? ANY amount of gluten that you are ingesting into your system can/will cause damage to your intestines. I personally don't care to cause myself harm on purpose. Please don't suggest that others try!

    -Jessica

  16. Oh goodness........you are going to have us ALL in trouble with your brother :lol:

Possibly we have a poet somewhere in the group that can help out more with lyrics than me. I'll try but no promises.........it probably won't go platinum!

No matter what it sure sounds like you are going to have such a fun time playing in the studio. Wish I was closer, I'd come help!! I don't sing well either, we would have a lovely duet. ha

    I'll think about some lyrics.............hummmmmmmm

    -Jessica

'angel_jd1' -- Jessica you have given me an idea.

My brother called tonight (he has a break in the tour) to see how I was feeling, and how my test results turned out. I could hear the guys in the background asking how I am... kinda a really nice switch. They knew someone in the music biz that died of celiac disease.

While he is away (I'll get someone to help me) I'm going to fire up his recording studio here in his home and sing something c-e-l-i-a-c. ;) Help me out with lyrics  Maybe they put me in their music video? Ha! I can't sing to save my life, my talents are not in music. But, he'll either [get the hint] and a kick out of it; or he'll bar me from playing with his stuff. It's ok I'll take my marbles, or what's left of them, and play someplace else. :P
