  1. Hi Lilla,

I found your post a a result that goggle posted after I serached for 'raised small white bumps on shoulders' as this is something that I have had for a couple of weeks now.

I'm celiac and have been diagnosed for 2 and a half years. I've to date been very good with maintianing a gluten free diet and have long since stopped missing many wheat based foods (cakes, bread, pizza - you know the score!)

But I've been quite depressed lately and have thought that indulging in the odd cake or piece of buttery toast would cheer me up, and too depressed to care what it would do to my health. But I'm guessing that as well as causing the bad stomach cramps and lethargy I used to suffer before diagnosis the re introuduction of gluten has also casued these white bumps. I've just started on a complete de-tox and am back gluten free (forever). My advice is to try the same and see if they clear up.

    Good luck

Sounds like today was your lucky day. I hope that you stick around the board. This group is full of supportive folks who can offer advice, a shoulder to lean on, and ears to listen with. Sometimes it is hard, but with support it seems slightly easier.

I'm glad you have decided to stay away from gluten. You have figured out that it can trigger more than an upset tummy.

Come here and post often. We would be happy to have you.

That is the taco bell list. Hope it helps.

Like Nini said, the meat in the tacos is NOT gluten-free. You are causing damage to your insides if you are eating it. No matter ifyou are getting a reaction or not.

  3. For flour I just used what I had in the fridge. I had a little of Analise Roberts mix left (3/4c) and the rest was bob's red mill all purpose gluten-free flour (1/4 c). It turned out great.

Marachino cherries were Wal-mart Great Value brand. Label says gluten-free :)

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am

  4. so sorry... I'm of the opinion that every time we have a not so good experience like this that we need to contact corporate and make them aware that while we appreciate the effort, there is still a long way to go in awareness... jmho

Already e-mailed them. Told them that if allergen/intollerance info is going to be provided then some sort of training should be provided for staff. I even had the chickey change gloves for me, and still am sick  So far it's headache and a trip to the b-room.........grrrrrr Why do I have to be so gun-ho sometimes to try new things :P

  5. This is my new favorite sin. I made this today. Took a scoop of the cake, topped it with vanilla ice cream. Topped that with a few sprays of reddi-whip whipped cream and then added a marachino cherry (ok 3 marachino cherries) It was like HEAVEN!! This is my new favorite dessert. HOLEY COW!!

    Hot Fudge Cake

    1 C packed brown sugar

    1 C Flour

    ¼ C plus 3 T unsweetened cocoa

    ¾ C packed brown sugar

    2tsp baking powder

    ½ tsp salt

    ½ c milk

    2T margarine or butter melted

    ½ tsp vanilla

    1 ¾ c boiling water

Mix 1C brown sugar, flour, 3 T cocoa, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Stir in milk, melted margarine, and vanilla. Spread over the bottom of the Crock-Pot.

In another bowl, mix together ¾ c brown sugar and ¼ c cocoa. Sprinkle evenly over mixture in the crock-pot. Do NOT stir.

Pour in the boiling water. Do NOT stir. Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping.

(recipe is for use with a 3 ½ quart crock pot)

from the Rival crockpot recipe book pg 209

  6. I seem to always be craving junk food, right now I want a warm fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream, wlanuts and hot fudge. Yesterday it was warm chocolate chip cookies! (if you have a good brownie or choc. chip cookie recipe please share!) Thanks

OH gosh, you TOTOALLY have the same craving that I had today. I made a hot fudge cake in my crock pot....topped it with icecream, reddi-whip and marachino cherries.........OMG I was in HEAVEN!!

    -Jessica

  7. I saw the post, checked out the online menu today and decided what I would go and order!!

    What an experience! ha

I got there and found out that my arby's doesnt' have the baked potatoes that are listed on the menu online. So that was out.........I got a grilled chickenbacon swiss minus the bun I also got a jamocha shake.

So I ordered my sandwich minus the bun. Told the kiddo that I have a food allergy. The guy stood there and stared at me. He said "I'm not sure we can do that" I just smiled. He went and asked the manager if that was ok. Manager said they would just put it into a plastic container. So the kid takes my money and I'm watching this lady in the kitchen make my sandwich. She puts my chicken into the microwave then grabs a handfull of wheat bread and lays it all out on the counter. Then takes my chicken out of the microwave (with the same gloved hands she just touched 20 pieces of wheat bread with) puts on the cheese and the bacon and seals up the container. I told the kid that I couldn't possibly eat that food, she just contaminated it with all of the wheat bread. Soooo she threw a fit, changed her gloves and made me another chicken sandwich B) I appologized for being "such a pain" but I didn't care to get sick.

I figure for $6.................I won't be going back for a chicken breast with some plastic tasting cheese on it. However, I might go back for the jamocha shake it was DELICIOUS!!

That was my arby's experience.........just ate like 15 min ago so I'll let ya know how I feel in a bit :)

  11. I'd be interested in where to get the individual size packets. I've seen Annies, but they don't seem to have them in French. I've been looking for salad dressing packets for a while and been unsuccessful. Visited some foodservice places that sell to restaurants, but selection was light and had trouble verifying ingredients

    Thanks

That website sells Kraft Dressings. They also sell sweet baby ray's bbq sauce in individual packets. I believe they also sell gluten free soy sauce in individual packets. Along with peanutbutter, jellies, heinz ketchup, Kraft Mayo, and tons of other things that are great!

  12. I'm curious to hear what everybody thinks of this article.

Bottle of water turns woman into a festival outlaw

    CAROL MCALICE CURRIE

    August 4, 2006

The security forces at the Bite of Salem last weekend confiscated bottled water, plastic bags of grapes and snack-sized boxes of animal crackers.

Kristi Mackay of Aumsville wondered what would have happened if she had brought a baby and a bottle of infant formula.

"Would they have taken that, too?" Mackay asked.

The single mother of two was venting this week about the Bite's new policy that prohibits the public from bringing any outside food and beverages into the fundraising event.

Mackay said the policy is discriminatory toward people with disabilities. She has celiac disease, she said, which prevents her from eating wheat- and gluten-based products. She keeps grapes handy so she doesn't have to eat something that could make her sick or break out in a burning, itchy rash.

"We were set to give the suggested donation for five, buy dinner for five and get kids' ride tickets for two," Mackay said. "We wanted to have some food, hear friends in the band 44 Long and watch fireworks, but they spoiled it."

Mackay and her mother, sister and children left when the gatekeepers refused to allow her to bring in her bottled water and snacks, found during a search of their satchels.

"Their attitude was like we were trying to get something for free," Mackay said. "But everything there costs money, so of course we were going to spend some. (My son) Julian wanted a burrito, and (my daughter) Siobhan wanted a hot dog, and she really wanted to ride the Ferris wheel. She was so upset."

Bruce Bolton, Salem's recreational and public-events supervisor, said he understands Mackay's frustration. But he said the South Salem Rotary, which organized the Bite, sets its own rules as part of its rental agreement.

"We like to say that Riverfront Park is a public park about 355 days per year," Bolton said. "But about 10 days a year, it belongs to the people or organizations that rent it."

Rotary rented the north and south meadows, the Court Street Plaza and the two parking lots for three days at a cost of about $4,600, Bolton said.

Tom Fohn, who coordinates the Bite for the South Salem Rotary, said liquor liability is a big factor in setting the policy. He also said that the purpose of the event is to raise money to benefit local youths and that the event features restaurants, so organizers have to consider their needs.

"We understand the public's concerns, so maybe we need to think about looking at each situation independently. It's always good to review," Fohn said.

Debbie Leahy, the director of the Salem Art Fair & Festival, said she sees both sides of the issue. The art fair does not prohibit outside food and drinks.

"We encourage people to come and buy because we're there to make money for these groups," Leahy said. "We make policies that benefit these groups, but at the same time, we want to make the public happy. I feel for both sides."

Dave Koellermeier, manager of the Oregon State Fair, said it doesn't have a policy prohibiting outside food or drink. "But it's not in the best financial interest of our food vendors," Koellermeier said. "So we wrestle with it constantly."

Mackay said she'll probably never attend the Bite again.

But maybe there's a middle ground: Allow the public to bring in empty bottles to fill at the park's three water fountains or a limit of one sealed bottle of water per person? A little more understanding of people with medical disabilities, and letting a few grapes past the gate?

I personally would LOVE to maybe have a few of us write to the organizers of this festival. Seems to me that they are ignoring ADA laws/guidelines. Any opinions?

  13. One night he cooked us dinner it was priceless. We had steak and veggies and etc, DaddyO said "...season two steaks", he did. And he was extra careful not to season mine. Halfway into the meal I became reactive, I felt like I was crawling out of my skin I had to leave the table. He was very concerned. A few hours later we/he traced it back to the spatular he used to fllip the steaks -- cross contaminated my steak all by simple accident.

Oh well, he really took notice...and was concerned. Enough to record a song?

    I dream of it.

    The reality I consider unlikely...

I'm just trying to imagine some lyrics and a rocker singing them. Hummmmmmmmmm "then with the flip of the steak I made her shake , she was so sick, made her skinny as a toothpick.........CEEEEEEELLLLLLIIIIIAACCCCCCCCCCCC" *flip of the hair*

    Ya, ok maybe not :P

  14. There are some yummy looking gluten-free cheesecakes on amazon .com I have one on my wish list  They are NOT cheap!!

Otherwise, just bake your own cake. That's what I do. I made the cutest cake for my great grandma's 100th birthday. It has a big pink daisy ontop and pink polka dots on the sides. It was so much fun to make!!

    -Jessica

  15. I remember reading (or at least I think I do!!!) about the gluten free Kraft-made powdered cheese sauce somewhere but I can't remember what it was called or where we could find it. Can anyone help me with this?!

I find mine with the velveeta cheese and shaker cans of parmasean cheese. It comes in a blue can and looks like this:

    Hope that helps.

  16. They might have mixed the salad in a contaminated bowl. With that chain (outback, bonefish etc) I know at least outback mixes their salads in a bowl usually. You have to ask them to use a clean one so that there are no crouton crumbs that get into your salad. Sorry you are sick.

    -Jessica

  17. I just sent Taste of Home an e-mail asking them to consider putting with their recipes ways to make them gluten free. I have got their magazine for years but until being diagnosed in March I never realized how many of the recipes I could not eat or fix. Hopefully I'll get a response. :)

Good luck. Let us know if you hear something back.

From time to time they do put in products that are gluten free. I know that they showcased the gluten free panty once and also dowd and rogers. I'm not sure if those were in taste of home or in Country Magazine. One of their publications. Anyways........good luck.

    -Jessica
