This is the e-mail that I recieved from their corporate offices today.
Thank you for your interest in The Cheesecake Factory. Our goal is to provideour guests
the best information possible.
Although we prepare dishes that we do not add wheat, oats, rye or barley, our
concern is
that some sub-ingredients may contain trace amounts of gluten. In addition, we
do not
have separate cooking equipment to prepare flour and no-flour based items.
We understand that sensitivities can vary. Our managers will be happy to help
you select
dishes that we do not add wheat, oats, rye or barley however, because your
health is our
primary concern, we recommend non-marinated vegetables, chicken, steak, shrimp
or
fish pan cooked as opposed to grilled.
The only cheesecake that does not contain wheat flour is our Godiva Cheesecake,
however, the pan release product we use on the pan does contain flour.
We appreciate you thinking of The Cheesecake Factory and hope that you will be
able to
join us for a wonderful meal.
Sincerely,
Keri Walsh
Guest Services Coordinator
So I guess the Godiva Cheesecake is out

Ground Turkey is even less expensive than hamburger. I use that all the time to make chili. Chili goes great over some french fries and with lots of cheese MMMmm chili cheese fries.
Ground Turkey also makes great taco meat. I add peas, potatoes and carrots to my taco meat while cooking because it's more traditional and makes the meat go farther than "just meat".
I even love turkey burgers.
If you have a wal-mart near by, their great value brand lists if they are gluten free on the labels. You can save a few cents here and there by using that brand.
Hormel is a good brand. The hash stuff you were eating though is gross, pretty sure it would give ANYBODY a stomachache and not because of gluten
Kraft is also a great brand. They will clearly list gluten on the label.
Mission corn tortillas and corn chips are yummy. They are gluten free. You can get a package of 36 corn tortillas for like 1.50. They are very versitile.
Eggs are cheap and can be made into omlets, breakfast burritos, fritattas
Beans are cheap and provide protein. You can make burittos with the corn tortillas.
Peanutbutter is fairly cheap and filling. I use Skippy and Jiff
Caseroles tend to be cheaper to make because they make more servings.
Hope that gives you some ideas

Hi, Yesterday I got glutened pretty bad (although it went away much faster than usual for me). All I ate that was suspect was a wendy's baked potato which I put some country crock margarine that came with it on top. I also cheated and stole four of my daughter's fries. What do you think, anyone know for sure if they're supposed to be gluten free? did I make a mistake or was it just cc?
Early on in my diagnosis I ate Wendy's fries....they were SOoo good. However I stopped the day that I found a chicken nugget in the BOTTOM of my fry box. Yep I had eaten a whole box of contaminated fries . No more wendy's fries here.
I do remember the days when a nugget at the bottom would have been a "bonus"

I just got that e-mail too. Pretty cool that they have a beer locator on their website now I'm getting ready to do a search to see how far away it is from me.

What do you all order for a main course ? I'd love to try the cheesecake factory sometime. I'm just nervous.

Since you are discussing artichokes and my thoughts always stray to artichoke spinach dip, I thought I'd share my easy easy easy recipe....
a brick of cream cheese
a box of frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
a can of artichokes, chopped
a can of diced mild chili peppers
a cup or so of shredded cheese
mix all together, heat up and enjoy!!! Fabulous with chips, over baked chicken, pasta, or just by the spoonful!!!
I've always used Reese, never had a problem with them, I think, but am going to give them a call now.....could explain some things.......
Let us know what you find out. That is another common brand around here in the grocery stores. Thanks!

Wal-Mart here carries Delallo brand. I called them and found out that Delallo Foods artichokes are gluten free. They are made in a gluten free facility even. I like that!!
It's good to know about the whole foods, however the closest one is about an hour away from me.
I will now be making this tonight:
Hot Artichoke DipIngredients:
2 jars (6.5 ounces each) marinated artichoke hearts, drained and coarsely
chopped
1 package (10 ounces) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well drained
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3/4 cup (3 ounces) grated fresh Parmesan cheese
1 garlic clove, pressed
Fresh vegetable dippers (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine artichokes, spinach, sour cream and
mayonnaise in Classic Batter Bowl. Add Parmesan cheese and garlic; mix well and
spoon into Mini-Baker.
2. Bake 20-25 minutes or until heated through. Serve with fresh vegetable
dippers, if desired.

what brands of raisins?
any cc issues with orig jerky?
I buy sunmaid raisins. They are gluten free.
I have never had any trouble with the beef jerky by oberto. There are some flavors that are not gluten-free so read the label carefully. I always get the orig.
As for chips....I get the lays and tostitos.
I also wouldn't reintroduce dairy if you haven't already! I would hate for you to spend your trip searching for bathrooms.

Three times in two weeks?! I wouldn't be comfortable with that either. That's too much contamination risk. Talking to him about doing it a bit less often, and talking to the manager and the chef, not just a website.
I agree that is alot of risk. Don't the experts recomend that you only eat out (at the most) once a month ? Contamination is a risk at any place where you are not in control of the food. Even if you eat at your parents, grandma's or a restaurant, the risk is there. Granted you are going to trust family a WHOLE lot more than some high school kids in a kitchen.
Try to be patient with your boyfriend. This whole thing isn't easy. Being sick stinks!! He doesn't want to risk going back to being sick. Maybe you could go to the store together and get some ingredients to cook a meal at home together.

I hate Texas. I'm actually making fajitas
Does anyone have a good marinade for skirt steak for fajitas? I'm thinking some lime juice, garlic salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder....
I'm a bit of a snob and don't like using pre-blended seasoning packets.
Any ideas?
I don't think I have ever used a recipe when making fajitas lol
I usually throw things into a big gallon ziploc bag and marinate for several hours.
Lime Juice
little bit of oil
pepper
chili powder
garlic powder
minced garlic
cumin
worchestershire sauce
red pepper flakes
soy sauce
Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head. I sometimes even do a seperate bag for the veggies and marinate those too.
Tonight I attemped to make a chipotle bol........it wasn't chipotle but the meat sure did turn out good.
Here is the recipe that I used for that
Chipotle Grill MarinadeMarinade for steak or chicken cubed into small pieces.
2 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp oregano (Mexican oregano if available)
3 tsp chopped garlic
1/4 red onion chopped
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 chopped jalapenos (seeds and membrane removed first)
1 tbsp lime juice
dash of smoked Tabasco sauce
salt and cayenne to taste
Makes marinade amount for about 4 large chicken breasts.
MSG URL: Open Original Shared Link
I left out the jalapenos and tobasco sauce. I added some gluten-free Pantry fajita seasoning. I made chicken not the beef.

How about a burrito/enchilada caserole using only refried beans corn tortillas and sauce? You could also throw in some rice. I find that mexican food freezes well.

Awesome! I was just talking to DH about Easy Bake Ovens the other day! Don't remember why...oh, it was because I said I used it like, twice, and then asked my mom to buy me real cake mixes and I'd just do it in the real oven
I was already using the real oven and stove at this point.
That's awesome, though!!!
I was talking to my mom about this today. She goes "oh ya I remember your baking days". We would have a million tiny little cakes everywhere in the house!! ha She said that the little refill packages used to be so expensive that she refused to buy them for me. She would just mix up a regular cake mix and let me bake that in my oven. Thus that is probably why we had a million little cakes......had to bake that many to use up the batter

I would of assumed that a pharmasist would be updated on Gluten Free Medications....but, when he pulled out an insert and started reading and then a medical pocket dictionary I got a little nervous. He said oh just take some Benadryl for the reaction. He also said that I have taken the antibiotic before and it didnt bother me. I tried to explain that I was just found out about this condition. He just didnt understand any of it. I left and went to another small home town more personal pharmacy and had a discusson with the pharmasisit and then had called the other pharmacy to fax over my prescriptions. By this time I was so discussed. I then got the prescriptions but looked it up online and sent an email to the company. But, thank god for this site I was able to get a website and a really good list. Im feeling alot better knowing that this site can really help.
I work in a pharmacy part time as a tech. There is absolutely no way for a pharmacist to know every ingredient in ALL medications and their generics. They are lucky if they know the active ingredients (the ones that count). If wheat was used in a med. it would most likely be as a binder which wouldn't be a terribly important ingredient to remember to the average person.
That is why your pharmacist pulled the package insert and started reading. He probably also pulled a drug book that lists information on drugs (not always full ingredient listings). He was doing the best that HE/SHE could do.
Your best bet is to ask them the name of the manufacturer and call them yourself. That way you are getting the information 1st hand from the people who are making the drug.

Food-Tek the cool company that makes microwave gluten free cakes and such is now in the end process of putting out Gluten Free Mixes for Easy Bake ovens!! They are also the company that makes the gluten filled mixes.
How awesome is it that a little kiddo can now not feel like an outcast and use their easy bake oven. I know when I was a little girl that was one of my favorite toys. Cooking a little cake with my little lightbulb powered easy bake oven!!
Here is the e-mail that I got from them this morning.
Hi Jessica:I've been reading your posts to the group and to Celiac.com. It's nice to know we have another fan!

Currently, we putting the finishing touches on a line we're calling "Quick-Bake Kids" - gluten-free mixes formulated and packaged for use in an Easy-Bake/toy oven. We'll be rolling out cookie, cake, and brownie mixes in the next 4-6 weeks.

Today was the first day that I realized that this is going to be a major problem Gluten one big nightmare. I was scheduled for my biopsy on Friday. When the office called and asked me all of my information about surgeries and health history they decided to cancel my biospy. I have a cough they I've had for a couple of months now along with asthma. Well, now I have to get clearance from my regular md. so off to the md I go. Explaining all the test and results and then that wonderful word....gluten ......which of course he said he knows nothing about....ok antibiotic and prevacid precriptions....ok "do you know if these have gluten in them" "dont know check with pharmacy"....ok....pharmasist...."dont know" you said gluten....ok changed pharmacies.... Oh, did I mention hiatal hernia....the gastric juices have been coming up and causing the problem with my throat and phlem. It been a wonderful week.
I need to know if anyone knows of a list thats out there to bring to pharmacy and doctor.
Any help would be great....thanks
As far as prescriptions go. The easiest thing to do is get the manufacturer name from the pharmacy and call the company yourself. You can do a search online for the company and they have people on staff that can tell you the gluten free status of the RX.
If you call yourself then you can make sure to ask the right questions and you can hear first hand their response.

Can I Cheat?
in Coping with Celiac Disease
Posted
Nope there aren't different levels of celiac. You either "have it" or "don't have it". You can't cheat if you want to be healthy. You are still doing damage to your insides, even if you aren't feeling the pain.
I guess you CAN cheat if you enjoy things such as Cancer. It's up to you. Nobody is going to do this for you.
I hope you make the right choice for your health and stay on the diet.
