How about "How to have a gluten free Cook-out". You can talk about how charcoal has gluten to bind it together, talk about marinades, bbq sauces, cross contamination with grills, throw in a few recipes for potato salad, pasta salad, and maybe a marinade and call it good
Good luck!

Her book is called Gluten Free Baking Classics. AND she has an amazing coconut cake recipe in the book. I just made it last weekend for my family. They loved it (they are not gluten-free).
You can get her book on amazon .com for quite a bit less than the publishers listed price. Open Original Shared Link
You might just mention to your friend that you would love to help her out by making that special coconut cake you both love so much, and if YOU made it you could even make it gluten free so you could enjoy her special day. Hopefully making it sound so positive would help her understand you want to help and want to enjoy her day with her. If she says no, then bake it for yourself and take a slice to the wedding with you so you don't feel left out.
Let me know what you think of the coconut cake, I LOVED it!

I would love to see a picture of the cake. What is the name of it in the cookbook?I always made fantastic cakes for birthdays, and now I feel that that joy has sort of been taken from me. In fact, my good friend's wedding is in 10 days and she had asked me to bake a coconut layer cake that is (was) a favorite of ours. She is also having a professional wedding cake, but since it's a garden wedding she wants to have "homey" desserts, as well.
Since I've gone gluten free, she hasn't mentioned me baking the cake, but I'm wondering if I should bake it anyway - I am concerned about being around all that flour. I don't have any in my house so I'd have to bake it at my mom's. Or should I attempt a gluten free version, if possible? Does Annalise Roberts have any coconut cakes in her book?
I suppose I should ask my friend what she wants me to do, but I'm sure she doesn't realize that I'm afraid to bake the gluten cake. I'd hate to get sick for her wedding. What do you guys think?

I will try to take some pics. I don't have a digital so It might be a while until I can post them ( use a roll of film at the wedding this weekend).
I had a bunch of frosting left over, and couldn't see it going to waste so I baked another cake!! ha I made this one into a mini wedding cake, like the fancy ones you see on TV. I did two tiny layers. Frosted them, used the shiny sprinkles to make it have "bling". Then I piped around the layers....it is pretty!
I had so much fun making the cakes today...........maybe I should be a gluten free baker instead of a teacher! ha
I'll get a picture as soon as I can

I am in a wedding this Saturday. The bride is a good friend of mine. She has been going out of her way to be sure that I will have "safe" food to eat at rehearsal and the reception. (I know, a great friend huh!!). She was especially freaking out about the cake, so I told her I would just bake one. I have a wonderful recipe that Annalise Roberts created for my College Graduation cake. Soooo I baked the cake, froze it, and now am in the process of decorating it.
I am So excited because it is turning out beautiful!! I am so excited that I can "do this" and make it look pretty!!
I made white buttercream frosting. Flavored it with lemon. Frosted the entire cake with the white/ivory frosting. Then put clear sugar sprinkles (wilton) ontop of the entire cake. I then piped around the edge of the top of the cake. Right now it is in the freezer so that frosting will set up before I pipe the bottom part. I am also thinking of putting the clear shiny sprinkles around the bottom edge of the cake.
I am just so proud of myself and excited so I had to share!!

Ingredients:
1 shot Vodka
1 shot Kahlua
Milk
1 splash Coca-Cola
Mixing instructions:
In a shaker mix Vodka, Kahlua, and milk. Pour into a rocks glass and add a splash of Coca-Cola
If this is the same recipe for the drink you are talking about, you could be having trouble with the milk and hopefull you are checking brands on the liquors you are using.

Most likely they are talking about a disended abdomen. If you have ever seen the commercials of the children in 3rd world countries, they have distended tummies.

Burping and belching can be a sign of a gallbladder that needs to come out, it can also be a sign of diverticulitis. I'm sure it's a sign of a million other things too, I can't recall ever burping alot after getting glutened though.

I know of one lady who had a toddler. She would label each safe piece of food with a stickey label. She might have a fruit leather and it would have a sticker on it that said "Gabby's Snacks". Her little girl knew that if it had this sticker, then it was safe and it was hers to eat.
A system like this would be helpful if you ever had to go somewhere, had a babysitter, or hubby was watching the little one. The toddler would know on her own that her snacks were safe if they had the sticker. Could be a little expensive to label the food, but if you only did this when absolutely necessary. Or even just kept a small stash of things labeled for when dad was "on duty", it could be helpful for all.

Not to be confused with the vanilla (butter) layer cake recipe. It is exactly like gluten filled wedding cake. It has that texture.....YUM!

No problems with Amy's for me. I Love their stuff, but just eat it as a treat for myself when I am too busy to cook or craving something special

I'm pretty sure they are under copyright in her book. Sorry. Maybe you can e-mail her and see if she would send it to you?

The foreward is by Dr. Green and the recipes are by Annalise. It is a wonderful book and I would buy it in a heart beat. There is even a recipe for cream puffs in there!!! I can't not wait to try that one out. mmmmmm
I also found out recenlty that her flour mix is being sold by Authentic foods. It is called gluten-free Classic Blend. That is also pretty awesome.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the book, it is a great one.

I am the girl that Annalise speaks of on page 37 of her cookbook. She created her Vanilla (butter) layer cake for ME! It is the most amazing recipe EVER! She saved my special day by creating this wonderful recipe just for me. The people at my reception kept begging me for the recipe and when I told them it was gluten free, they could not believe it. They raved about this cake, and still do to this day! (over a year later)
Not only is Annalise a super cook, but she is a wonderful woman. Thank you for saving my special day! I highly recommend this cookbook! I'm not making money off of her book or anything, but do happen to believe she is a wonderful cook and this is a super book!

Also, if you happen to be stationed in Japan due to the Military (you didn't say why you were there, just thought it might be military). The grocery stores on base usually sell some gluten free items, or at least I have been told that they do.

Sounds like you need to write to Bette and have her put out a "board book" version ! That way he can slobber on it, throw it around, and it will withstand the wear and tear

Thanks for the info, however I don't think I'll be picking up an illegal drug habit anytime soon.
Richard- I know I know.......I sure DON'T want surgery. This is the first time it has ever really hurt like this. I really don't have a clue what I ate to flare it up.
So far I'm just eating soft foods and taking some ibuprofen. It felt a little better this morning. Hopefully that continues.

Soooo my lovely diverticulitis is flaring up (I think). I have been in BIG pain for the last week. I'm pretty sure that is what is going on.....anyways.......I was curious what everyone else does to help sooth the pains.

Your natural ice chapstick is fine.......you may want to be a little more specific on the other products, list scents/flavors etc to help more. Most folks check on specific products.
