A more united front is going to help us more than "every month is national celiac awareness month" that just sounds hokey As far as I know October is the month.
-Jessica
-
Wow sounds like we celiacs need to get things together!!! I have always known it to be in October!! That is why most of the walks and such are held twards that time and I know CSA sponsors October as awareness month. I know a lot of you do not care for CSA, but all organizations need to work together on things like this. Any thoughts as to how we can get this into one month??

have to get different utinsels
Things that are poreous such as wooden spoons DO need to be replaced or only used on gluten free or gluten full foods. They can trap nasty things in them and make you sick.
-Jessica
-
When I was first diagnosed it was a godsend!! I would highly recommend it to any newly diagnosed celiac. It gives you some guide as to what foods are safe and gives you a little hope that the world isn't over.
I did not re-order it this year because I "have the hang of things" now. I have the two previous years and I occasionally do go back and look at them. I think it is a good idea to get it if you are new to the diet.

Are you sure that M&M's are gluten-free?
All of the M & M's are gluten free EXCEPT the crispy ones in the blue bag.

I use the mission white corn tortillas all the time. I think that the white corn is more foldable/easier to work with than the yellow corn. Use them to make enchiladas, tacos, mini pizzas, quesadilas, cheese roll ups, tons of things.

The grilled chicken IS gluten-free, however you need to ask for it not to be cut up. The only thing that makes it NOT gluten-free is the contamination with the knife if it is cut/diced. Have them put it on the salad whole and you can cut it up yourself.

Just buy some extra candy and trade her piece for piece. Go through the bag, seperate out the good from bad. Take the bad pile and trade her the exact amount of safe candy!! Give the uckey candy to someone else or just throw it away. That way everybody wins.

*Rollerskating
*Movies
*extra recess (over the intercom announce that 2nd grade has done such an awesome job this week that they are needed outside for a free recess, the PTO then supervises the recess which gives teachers an extra break too for being so great)
*dance (play tons of music and let the kids dance, they LOVE it, especially seeing the teachers and principal get down with them)
*Halloween we did a march to be drug free, they dressed up in their halloween costumes and we marched around the block of the school, parents came out to watch the parade
*Visit a nursing home and do crafts with the older folks, they would both enjoy that.
*Petting Zoo
Individual rewards could include:
Vouchers/coupons for free/extra computer time
coupon for extra recess time
treasure chest filled with school spirit items (tshirts, pencils, notepads, stickers, stamps, visors, hats, etc)
we had a program called "caught ya being good" teachers, paraprofessionals, or any other adult in the school could catch the child doing a good deed, or extra hard work in the classroom and turn their name in on a slip to the office. At the end of the day the child's name was read along with the encouraging words of the adult, the child could go to the office and pick out a small prize. The parents were also called and told their child was "caught being good".

Alright hopefully I've included everyone who's gluten free. The upcoming Australian gluten free segment on TCN 9 is going to be available to all of us here in the states too! Jenn in LV"Beaumont, Melissa" <MBEAUMONT@nine.com.au> wrote:

Hang in there!! Sometimes things happen for a reason. This boy may not have been the right boy for you if he is treating you like this. OR he could just be trying to deal with it also, but no clue how to tell you he is worried. Either way, things will come around and you will be a stronger person because of it.

Amy's has some great frozen dinners. Their cheese enchiladas even come in a family serving (like 9 or 10 enchiladas in a pan). They have a great rice crust pizza, I just add my own toppings to it because it's a cheese pizza.
Also Kraft has a new line of south beach diet meals. I have found 2 of those that are ok for us. Kraft will not hide any gluten ingredients. Just read the labels.
Ian's has allergy free chicken nuggets and fish sticks. They are pretty good, but a little expensive.
Hope that helps a little.

By no means do I "hide" and not eat out, however I refuse to put money into places that refuse to give out nutritional information on a corporate level. Why give someone money that isn't willing to cooperate and help you?? NO thanks.
-Jessica
-
I refuse to eat at applebee's. They are one of the establishments that give us the CYA statement when you try to find out nutritional information. I refuse to pour money into a place that doesn't even attempt to meet my needs!! I won't do it.
BTW: Charcoal is made of corn and wheat according to the Kingsford charcoal company. They claim that it burns up before it reaches the food, but I personally have gotten sick from charcoal. I only use a gas grill!!

I rec'd an email from the TODAY Show. They are going to air a segment
on Celiac May 10 with cooking demos.
Not for sure on this, trying to still do some checking, but I believe it is an Australian today show that is having the segment.

The folks over at USASillyYaks noticed that on Oprah's site that they are looking for people with odd disorders, so many people have been posting their letters under that topic at the Oprah site. Just thought I would give you all a heads up on that.
How is the letter writing going for everyone??
