  1. The part that cracked me up was that he didn't get why I was mad that he said what he said!! :o Like you said Kaiti there are people out there for us who do not care about this silly little eating thing. Just takes time to find them :)

  2. I was recently seeing a guy and we got along really well, had tons of fun etc etc.

He looked at me one day and goes "I just don't know if I could have kids with a person with celiac" like I had AIDS or something. geesh. Needless to say he got kicked to the curb pretty quickly!! <_< There was no way I wanted to have kids with someone who thought it was THAT big of a deal.

  3. Another vote for gluten free pantry chocolate truffle brownie mix. I buy it in bulk the 5lb bag!! :D My family loves it!! They always steal my brownies when I take them to their house. I smother them in milk chocolate frosting mmmmmm

They also make a mean brownie sundae after being put into the microwave for about 20 seconds and drop some icecream ontop of them.

Also recently tried a suggestion from this board, melted a large box of junior mints onto the brownies. However I went one step further. I went ahead and put frosting on them also!! HOLEY COW SOOOOo good!!

  4. Why risk it?? I don't think that saying play-dough is off limits is being too paranoid.

They make a wonderful gluten free playdough that can be used instead. It is sort of expensive, but from what I understand the bucket comes with TONS of dough so it is worth the money. You could provide a bucket for the preschool for all the children to use instead of regular play dough.

You can find the gluten free playdough here: Open Original Shared Link

I know when I was younger (not gluten-free) I would play with the stuff, it would get under finger nails and be there for DAYS! GROSS!! It definately has potential to harm a child with celiac.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Do they go out of your home for preschool? If so she could be getting small amounts of gluten there. Children of that age are very "sharing". Here, have a cookie, cracker, etc. It can easily slip by a teacher or aide.

As Kati mentioned, playdough could also be a culprit. Even if she isn't directly playing with it, tables may not be washed properly, they could be the same tables they serve snacks and lunches on.

Even craft time can be trickey, macaroni noodles, cereals, some of the paints and glues are even filled with gluten. You just have to check brands.

Just some things to think about.

  6. *colic as a newborn

    *atopic dermatitis age 3

*sensitive stomach, even clothing hurt it all through childhood

*severe tummy troubles in high school, throwing up daily, lost weight, sick diagnosed with inflamed duodenum and put on axid

*immune system basically shut down, sick constantly, on rounds and rounds of antibiotics, dr's couldn't figure it out, nothing helped down to drinking only pedialyte and couldn't keep that down, lost 30 lbs, thought I was dying finally diagnosed at age 24

That is the very short version of me.

  7. They may possibly not add gluten containing ingredients, however they could have cross contamination. If they were gluten free they would be on their list.

Like I said before in my previous post (see above quote). When I called they said that gluten ingredients may not be added to the product (no gluten in the actual ingredient list) HOWEVER it may be contaminated due to processing on the same lines, in the same area etc. Therefore would not be, in their standards, gluten free. They are not willing to put it on their gluten free list.

If a reputable company such as Heinz is not willing to say gluten-free then I am not going to eat it. I would trust the company on this one, they know what goes on in their facilities. Things may not be cleaned between batches of this stuff. I'm going to pass on it.

Just wanted to clear up the contamination issue though. It must have been missed in my last post.

  8. I went ahead and called Kraft this morning. Same labeling policy of course applies to these dinners as any others. If I am reading the label correctly the savory beef with cheesy broccoli is a safe choice. YEAH!!!

If any of you are at the store, pick up a box and help me read, the label is very long. I want to be sure it is safe by having others read it.

They are kind of expensive $3.14 for a meal. However, having an option in the regular grocery store would be nice on occasion.
