  1. I forgot about this one.......... it is called Angelic Grooves. Open Original Shared Link The lady creates bracelets, necklaces, and keychains out of crystals and beads. 20% of the profits go to Celiac Research. The bracelet runs 35$, necklace is 37$, and keychain is 10.99.

This is what the website says :

    Celiac Disease Awareness

Celiac disease , also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 133 Americans. Symptoms of celiac disease can range from the classic features, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and malnutrition, to latent symptoms such as isolated nutrient deficiencies but no gastrointestinal symptoms. Those affected suffer damage to the villi (shortening and villous flattening) of the intestines, when they eat specific food-grain antigens, (toxic amino acid sequences) that are found in wheat, rye, and barley. Oats have traditionally been considered to be toxic to people suffering from Celiac Disease but recent scientific studies have shown otherwise.

Both of my daughters, Halle,(6) and McKenze (3) have Celiac Disease.  Now I have been tested also and have confirmed that I have it.  For this reason I have made the Celiac Disease Awareness jewelry (green catseye with peridot Swarvoski Crystals that represent the celiac color) with an awareness ribbon for Celiac Disease. I have chosen a few fundraisers to donate 20% of profits for Celiac Disease.

20% will go to the University of Maryland Center of Celiac Research

  2. They do exist. They are a small green ribbon pin (like the yellow "support the troops) . They cost $5 a pin. They are put out by the University of Chicago Hospital and Northeast Ohio Celiac Support Group. I had inquired about them back in May, so not sure if they still have a supply or not, I am sure you could contact them to find out. Here is the info that I got back in May.

    Jessica,

We created the celiac disease awareness pin with the Northeast Ohio Celiac Support Group to raise awareness. All proceeds of pins purchased from us will go to support the mission of our organization, which is to raise diagnosis rates for celiac disease in the US through professional and patient education.

Anyone interested in a pin should send a check to:

University of Chicago Celiac Disease Program

    5839 S. Maryland Avenue, MC4065, Room C-491

    Chicago, IL. 60637

For $5/ per pin plus $.60 postage for an order of 1-10 pins (more than 10, postage is $1.00)

    Thanks!

    Michelle

  3. I spent the night with no power last night. We are in the middle of a large ice storm. My back yard is FULL of tree limbs and wires (one of which i know is my cable tv). I have a HUGE limb hanging from my power wire, so I have power until that falls through! ha Then the power will be off again for 6-8 days is what the company says!!!!

It has gotten me thinking about survival type kits. I thought maybe we could list some foods that would be appropriate to keep on hand for a survival kit. I know some people keep these in their cars for those "just in case" times. Feel free to add to the list!!

    -Jessica

    Survival Kit List

    Oberto Beef Jerky

    Gatorade

    Genisoy Peanut Butter Style Bars

Nuts (peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pistachos etc)

    Cereal

    Chips

    Dried Fruit

    Bottled Water

    Bottled Juice

    Orville Reddenbacher Popcorn Cakes

    Peanut Butter

    Plastic Silverware

    Paper Towels/Napkins

  4. AMEN to the truffle brownies!! YUM!! We had "New Years Eve Food" at our house. Velveeta cheese with rotel, hillshire farms little smokies in sweet baby ray's bbq sauce, a cheese ball with blue diamond almond thins, and vegetable soup!! ha Great celebration.

    -Jessica

PS. Happy Anniversary to your son!!

  5. I avoid popcorn because of diverticulitis. It is a condition in which pockets form in your intenstines. Food such as popcorn gets trapped in those pockets and can be very painful!! Other things such as nuts, seeds, some vegetables and fruits can also cause the pain. I am not sure if any of you have this condition, but it might be something to think about.

    -Jessica

  6. HA HA celiac3270........you post on my board!! I guess I just must be special :)

Even on the yahoo groups it is hard to get a time set aside to "chat" because people live in so many different time zones etc! I own a board there and I have tried getting the chat feature going and it seems to be hard for that reason. I would LOVE to be able to use that more, I think it would be a great resource.

I guess I'll have to try harder!! ;)

    -Jessica

  7. Today begins my third year of being healthy and gluten free. On December 31,2002 I visited the doctor for test results and was sent on my merry way with a small piece of paper and a diagnosis of Celiac Disease. Thank God for the internet or I do not think I would have made it to where I am today. I have learned so much from others with Celiac, not from Doctors. ;)

It is sort of odd that my new life began on New Years Eve day, but it was a great way to usher in a new year and new life for myself. A life filled with hope, health, and new friends because of the disease. Thank you to each of you for helping me learn. It is great to be healty and have my life back!!

    -Jessica

  8. I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with Susan here, the day is about the Bride and Groom, not what is on the plate of one guest. They have SO much to worry about on that day. I would feel awful trying to inconvience them with my problems. They should be able to relax and enjoy their day, not worry if I got the right food at the right time and was happy.

If all else fails, bring in a bag of mcdonalds food or lunch from home and enjoy your time with the bride and groom, this day is NOT about you. It is about them!! It is about spending time with special people on a special day, getting out and socializing. If you stay at home, you are making yourself a prisoner of this disease when you don't have to!

I would really hate to be the one to ruin a wedding by throwing a fit about food or just plain not showing up just because of the food issue. That is just plain silly!! There are so many ways to work around it. I wouldn't miss a special day like that.

    Just my 2 cents :)

    -Jessica

  9. Are you outside of the United States? Here in the US those cereals are fine. Malt-O-Meal even has a statement on their website. Post is a Kraft company, Kraft has a policy of listing allergens clearly on the labeling. I just bought a box of fruity pebbles today and it has absolutly no "malt" anywhere on the box. Maybe you are thinking of rice krispies, which DO have malt flavoring and are NOT safe. Just a thought.

    -Jessica

Here is the info from the Malt-O-Meal Site :

    Q: Which cereals are gluten-free?

A: Currently, we produce four gluten-free cereals:

  10. Most likely it is not safe because of the deep frying. If it isn't in a dedicated fryer then it is contaminated. The proteins from the breaded chicken would get on the naked chicken and make you very sick. You can always ask to see if they use the dedicated fryer though, then write the company to check on spices. It is worth a shot.

    -Jessica :D

  11. Ok folks, I am sure that many of you use this soup to make your grean bean caseroles and various other recipes that call for mushroom soup. The problem is, that I do not believe they are making it any longer!! :o I have started seeing cans going on discount then the tag is taken off the shelf and the soup is gone!! It isn't even on their website list of products anymore as far as I can see.

I have written a letter to progresso (general mills) however I am sure that one person is not going to make much difference. I think that it might help alot if you other folks who use this soup would also write into the company. So please take a couple of min. to tell them how helpful it is to have the soup in the can instead of slaving over a stove to make a cream base and then only after that is done being able to make the caseroles etc.

Maybe, just maybe if enough of us write, we can get it brought back?? Worth a shot. Thanks for the help!! :D

    -Jessica

If you go Open Original Shared Link.....then at the bottom of the page click on contact progresso it should work and you can write your letter to them.

  14. I agree with bridget........they are not such a great place.......here is the response that I had gotten to them when I wrote in July

    Dear Jessica,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us and for your interest in LongHorn Steakhouse. After consulting with our Culinary Team I find that I am unable to adequately address your concerns due to the fact that our restaurants source raw and processed ingredients from hundreds of providers across the United States. Many of these products are mixed by the provider or in the restaurant and the ingredients may change from time to time and batch to batch. Also, several of these providers use proprietary blends of seasonings which are not disclosed to the public. Therefore, it is not possible to provide an accurate list of gluten-free menu items. We understand the seriousness of your question and we regret that we are unable to provide the information you have requested.

    Kind regards, Nikki Mechem
