  1. I had my CT this morning. It went very well. They made sure the contrast was gluten-free, even let me read the bottle to double check. They brought out the crystal light and let me read it (it was KRAFT). They were SOOOO understanding about making sure I didn't get glutened.

They had a hard time getting my IV in. It took a few sticks to get it done. Test itself took very little time. The tech who was doing my scan was checking me out and said "now this contrast can cause diarrhea, so don't worry if it does, that is a normal thing".......yep it sure can!! Other than the diarrhea things went prety well.

  2. I need advise on what type of gift, if any to give to someone who just sucessfully completed his 31 year career. I use to work with him, I was new to the job and he became my friend..not too many did. He is very sweet and I really appreciated him taking me in when I was new. Oh ya..he was the only one that kept in touch with me when I was off on workers comp for surgery. Anywy...need an appropriate/professional gift idea. Thanks!

A gift cert. to his favorite store or restaurant

A gift basket of his favorite snacks

Gift cert. to a bed and breakfast for a jump start on retirement.

    Movie tickets or concert tickets

plant a tree in his name somewhere

gift cert to a nursery (he can pick out his own plants)

Those are a few off the top of my head :)

  3. How about better than sex cake.....

Make a choc cake mix or bake one

    Let cool

Take the end of a wooden spoon(or similar cooking utensil) and poke holes in the cake.

Drizzle about half a jar of carmel sauce on it(I heat it up alittle first)

Drizzle 1/4 of a can of sweetened condensed milk on the cake

again with the carmel, again with the milk(note: in total I use about 1/2 to 1/3 of teh milk and all the carmel)

Top with Wipped topping and store in fridge!!!

Enjoy this very bad for you cake!

This sounds SOOOOOOOOOoo sinful!! I'm dying to try it. Thanks for sharing.

    -Jessica

  4. Ooopss sorry didn't mean to confuse you. The imaging center where I am having my CT done says that THEY will be mixing the contrast with crystal light........unless I bring my own (like country time lemonade). Sooo that was why I was wondering if crystal light is gluten-free. I'll probably just take my country time with me haha Tastes better anyways. I take the prep (contrast mixed with crystal light or country time) at the hospital about an hour before the CT.

I was mostly wondering about the contrast. I was thinking I needed to have the clear one and you confirmed what I was thinking. I believe before (pre-gluten-free) when I had my CT it was this cloudy junk and it took me a while to get it all down. It was not so tasty! ha However, I was also super sick and nothing tasted good at the time.

    Thanks for the info!!

  5. Doh! Thanks, Jessica!

*hunts around for my Making Tracks For Celiacs bracelet*

Took it off once the diet got through the noggin'..

    :D

Thanks for the well wishes. :) I hope my CT goes well too lol I was going to mention the bracelets, however I couldn't think who put them out off the top of my head lol You'll have to dig it back out to wear on Friday :)

    -Jessica

  6. I will definitely be wearing green on Friday. Her "The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread" was my first gluten-free cookbook and her spirit of adventure in the gluten-free kitchen is one that will stay with me, hopefully forever. I have to ask, is the color green from Dr. Peter Green, or the Irish, or something else? I just like to know these things...it really isn't all that important.

    TIA,

    Margaret

Green is the color for celiac awareness. Just like pink is for breast cancer, yellow for cancer etc. It is used for awareness ribbons, bracelets, t-shirts etc.

  7. I am finally having my CT scan on Friday. I'm a bit nervous, but I am sure it will be fine. I have had one before and it was no big deal. I guess I just want to find out what this pain is I have been having for the last few months.

I know someone had mentioned before that you need to ask for a certain kind of contrast (the stuff you drink). I believe they said clear...however I want to be sure. So which contrast was the gluten-free one??

They said that they mix the gunk with crystal light lemonade.......I know it's a KRAFT product, but it isn't something I buy...anyone know if it's gluten-free? I'm sure I won't have an opportunity to read their label.

They did say I could bring in my own drink mix if I wanted, which I might just do that instead.

  8. Yeah, usually it's something you'd do to use up old bread, right? Well, I actually had a reason to make it, which is going to sound a little strange, but if you go to the following link, you'll see what my objective is:

It will be for my (non-gluten-avoiding) boyfriend for his birthday. He adores all things red meat, and this is more or less the perfect thing for him. However, I had to practice getting a gluten-free meatloaf right before attempting to make a cake with it.

Like I said, though, I think it will make a perfect binder for crab cakes and salmon patties, and I'm going to try it as breading on fried things :D like green tomatoes :D and eggplant.....

I'm loving the link to the meat cake!!! That is too funny. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I think you should threaten with a 504, just to make sure they are taking it seriously.

Comming from a teacher's perspective, this statement could really move you in a direction you don't want to head in with your school. "Threatening" a teacher or principal or school isn't going to create a positive environment for anyone. I believe that you need to form a partnership with the school, not scare the bejezus out of them!!

Educate them, inform them, but please please do not "threaten" them. It will get you nowhere in a hurry!!

Your child has every right to have accomodations made for them. Talk with the school about your child's needs. It is very possible that a 504 will need to be put into place to ensure that your kiddoes needs are being met, however don't use it as a "threat". Keep the positive lines of communication open and you will come out ahead!

  10. Either my case is the exception, or that is not how spamming is defined for these boards.

My case: I've made more than 1-2 posts and none of them were "promoting" anything. I've been here for a few months now too. It's good to check those posts before assuming a new member is a spammer.

Back to my case: I made 1 (relevant) post w/ one link and a paragraph description.

I did not spam this post anywhere else. Yet my post was considered spam and deleted. Scott's board, Scott's rules. Fair enough - but spam is not limited to multiple irrelevant posts made by new members. It applies to all of us:) .. or does it?

I did a few searches and came up with a bunch of links, some below:

    Open Original Shared Link

    Open Original Shared Link

    Open Original Shared Link

    Open Original Shared Link

    Open Original Shared Link

    Open Original Shared Link

There seems to be a fine line. Some links had other people recommending certain sites and some had website owners recommending ("promoting") their own sites.

I hope I am not accused of 'spamming'/ "promoting" those websites in those links - I've no affiliation :)

    Cindy Lou-

In the first example you listed, that is a very common mistake/rule break here at celiac.com people post a link to their own blog. This is against the board rules. It seems that we must have missed that post (it DOES happen, we are only human volunteers). If you look at the board rules it states that you/anyone is not allowed to promote their own websites. The posting of a link to your website/blog would be in violation of that rule. Therefore people get a warning for that.

Posting a link to a website that you are not affiliated with is fine. For example you found an awesome brownie recipe on allrecipes.com and wanted to share it......post the link...no violation no foul.

I hope that helps to clear up some of your confusion.

  11. I had sent an e-mail to GIG to find out if any services or memorials had been set up yet. Here is the info that I got back from them:

Bette passed away Friday August 17, 2007.

We are working very closely with Karol and will notify the Celiac Community when arrangements are complete. We do know a memorial service will be held at a later date. At this time we do not have the final details for contributions.
