  1. I would get the blood test done anyways. I was basically gluten free for 1.5 years before my blood test and it was still a weak positive. I also had a positive genetic test (23andme). I never bothered with the endoscopy.
  2. I've had a similar issue develop on a sunny resort vacation, where I definitely experienced some cross contamination at restaurants. I suffered from DH before being diagnosed, but this rash was located in the areas of my body getting the most sun exposure (as opposed to where it used to develop when it was DH). It was incredibly itchy and seemed to get worse...
  3. If you're in Canada, the blood test is free, so if you're curious and don't want to go through the hassle of the gluten challenge, I would get the blood test done anyways. I was basically gluten free for 1.5 years before my blood test and it was still a weak positive. As per the advice of the gastroenterologist, I never had the endoscopy because at that point...
  4. Did the doctor ever mention Eosinophilic Esophagitis as a potential reason for the throat pain? It's another autoimmune condition and not uncommon for someone to have both conditions.
  5. If you live in a smaller town, you can look to online shops that deliver better quality gluten free items. A few options (for Canadians): https://naturamarket.ca/values/gluten-free.html https://www.healthyplanetcanada.com/grocery/gluten-free.html https://well.ca/categories/gluten-free_967.html
  6. What kind of meals are you looking to eat? Veg focused, meaty, carb focused? I use a few good recipe websites Minimalist Baker (search for the gluten-free recipes), The Gluten Free Blogger, Iowa Girl Eats (search for the gluten-free recipes). I think the best trick is to write down all the meals you ate before your diagnoses and find a suitable gluten...
  7. Here's some more information - see "Gluten Free Food Products": https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/lines-33099-33199-eligible-medical-expenses-you-claim-on-your-tax-return/details-medical-expenses.html#gltnfr I think you just fill...
  8. Hi statguymark, I suffered for years with DH before getting a proper diagnosis (despite going to multiple doctors and multiple dermatologists, but I digress). I found the following things helped me: - keep your nails short! But remember it's mind over matter: it itches less if you don't scratch. - keep yourself cool: a fan at night, loose breathable...
  9. I use RenewLife's Fibresmart, specifically the powder (the capsules don't work as well for me for some reason) and then I make sure to drink a TON of water throughout the day. This was recommended by my dietician. https://www.renewlife.ca/product/fibresmart-powder/
  10. Hi @driftwood7.. I had a similar journey to yours. What sticks out to me is the rash on your elbows, which is likely dermatitis herpetiformis, which I know all to well. There are studies out there that indicate people with DH have less villous atrophy (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27136959/) which could explain why your test results were somewhat...
  11. I've experienced the same thing celioops! I've been totally gluten free for 1.5 years and it was this Halloween I realized I had lost my sweet tooth, and frankly my appetite in general. I feel great and eat a healthy diet, so in my case I wouldn't consider it a bad thing, but as a lifelong chocolate fanatic I can't believe it. I had wondered if it was...
