  1. We can't find any Yoplaits that say "gluten-free" on them anymore. My daughter is not happy. Anyone eating them anyway? What other yogurts are safe?

I can't find any either. I did just read though that they are changing their labeling and soon any Yoplait that doesn't have gluten in it WILL say gluten-free on the container. I'm just trying to be patient. Hope it happens soon!

  2. I made this french bread last night to go with soup. I cannot believe how tasty it is.

I actually messed up and used my new sweet rice flour instead of white rice flour, so the inside is slightly on the gummy side, but my husband and I still ate an entire loaf last night.

The crust is really crusty and tastes like wheat bread. In fact, my husband thought I said I messed up and used wheat flour and he said "I can taste and smell the wheat in this." LOL, I have to agree with him though, it did taste and smell like wheat.

I am going to make it again today and try to use the right flour. It is really good even with the sweet flour. It is superior to anything in the way of bread that I have made to date, even with the error on the flour.

I took a picture and will post it later after I figure out how to do it.

Here is the link to the recipe. I used egg whites and no egg substitute. Open Original Shared Link

Thank you for the suggestion! I made this bread this weekend and we had it Saturday and Sunday with dinner. My hubby (who has celiac disease) appreciated my efforts at making gluten-free bread - but kindly told me to stop a couple months ago. He just didn't like the way they won't hold as a sandwich - always falling apart on him. But this bread he really enjoyed and said I can make it with dinner anytime. I'd like to try it as a hamburger bun but think it might be to heavy.

Anyways - thanks again for posting. We really liked it.

  3.:lol::lol: Been there. Done that. Only with me it's usually $20+ and found 5 years later, so ends up being a happy surprize.

Hi, my name is Kelly and I am a loser of the worst kind.

My hubby gave me $400 to hold on to until our credit card came (for something he charged). I put it in a TV guide...kind of as a book mark and set it on the counter in "my spot". Well fast forward 2 weeks and we are expecting company so I am tidying up and I THROW OUT THE TV GUIDE. I cried for days. I need help too.

I don't have the crust recipe...I probably had it at one time but lost it!

  4. I just bought Pamela's bread mix for the first time, and am excited to have found a gluten-free, df, sf bread mix. There are so many recipes on the bag. I was wondering which one others like best. I'm trying to decide what to make first. (I won't be making the cheese bread, since I cook without dairy and soy)

    Thanks for your feedback!

We love Pamela's! I make waffles, pancakes, banana bread and cookies with it. And once you fall in love with it :P be sure to check it out at Amazon. It's much cheaper than in the store.

    Good luck!

  5. I printed out the recipe, but I understand that white distilled vinegar has gluten. It's made from grain. Just like Vodka.

So, whenever I have salad dressings or sauces I ask what kind of vinegar did you use???

    tucson.....

    Hi tucson -

Sometimes I use cider vinegar...but in this recipe I used my distilled white vinegar because it's gluten free. I'm lucky because the store I buy from (Wal-Mart) lists on their vinegar container that it is gluten-free.

I hope this helped, Good luck!

  6. Thanks Jenny.

Do you just wet your hand then - and is the dough easy to get off your hand? Sounds like a dumb question...but that stuff can be sooo hard to remove!

So to get this straight...I don't want to screw it up...as it is mixing, you add more flour...how much would you guess? I mix this in my Kitchen Aid only because my hubby says he likes the smaller slices of the "pan" method as opposed to the bread machine's 2 lb. loaf size. I told him to cut the bread in half then...jeez...he's such a GUY. But he won't listen. So I was thinking of adding flour, like you said, while it's in my mixer. I bet I will try it in my bread machine though. I am soo the curious type.

    Thanks again Jenny!

  7. Lorka -

I wish I had read about your bread recipe earlier. I made this yesterday and my husband was giddy like a school girl! I can't tell you (but I'm sure you already know) how happy this had made my family. I just have to say thank you thank you thank you! I love that it was easy to make, doesn't fall apart and tastes great. Wow. Just like regular wheat bread.

Please tell me that you are coming out with a cookbook.

    You have been a GODSEND!!!

    Thanks again!

  8. I tolerate several prepackaged gluten free items as well, but only in the case of an emergency because I do not like them that much. I have found that if I make it myself, it is so much better tasting. The hardest part for me was not adding flour to the batter while it was mixing. This was my first attempt at gluten-free bread, so I am used to making sure the dough is a nice round ball etc.

This bread really does live up to the hype. My husband told me it was better than my gluten bread I used to make, and he was a big fan of the gluten stuff. It doesn't fall apart when you slice it, even if you slice it thin. DH has informed me that banana nut bread it next......

Let me know how it turns out!

    Kat -

He loved it! I just got off the phone with him and he said it was great to have a sandwich that didn't fall apart. I made it yesterday and I'm excited at how easy it was. I must have missed more in the thread too, because you said you shaped it into a ball...I didn't do that. I mixed all the dry ingredients, then mixed all the wet ingredients and added the dry to the wet. I actually baked it in the oven...my sides caved in a little bit when I took it out (don't know what I did wrong there) but the main thing is that he REALLY LIKED IT!

I'm so happy you posted that recipe. THis is the closest thing to real bread that he has had in almost 2 years. He was happy - so I am happy!

    Thanks again!

  9. I set it for the following:

    Warm-10 min

    Knead-18 min

    Rise 1 off

    Rise 2 off

    Rise 3 55 min

    Bake 55 min.

During the knead, I watch it to make sure it all gets mixed in well and at the end of the rise, I shape the dough so it looks like a loaf

I am going to try it this weekend with substituting 20% of the coconut flour and adding 20% more liquid, so it is a highe fiber, lower gi bread. I will let you know how it turns out.

I have been making bread for several years and was pretty good at gluten bread, but my husband said this was the best loaf I ever made and he can eat gluten!

    Kat.

Thanks Kat - that will really help. I'm so excited to make this. My DH "lives" with the Gluten Free Pantry's Favorite Sandwich Bread mix...but if I can make him one as "normal" feeling and tasting as the reviews imply...he will be thrilled!

    Thanks again!

  10. lilgreen,

Out of the (probably) 10 different recipes that I have tried over the last 2 years, my DH's favorite is the Gluten-free Pantry Favorite Sandwich Bread mix. As you'll find, all the gluten-free bread is heavier in texture...most people say it's only good if you toast it, but my husband got used to it for sandwiches. Hope this helps!

If you end up liking it, you can get it at amazon .com for cheaper than you can in the store.

    Good luck!

  11. Sorry I live in Squamish, BC and I have found a Whole foods about an hour away in VAncouver, we live in s small town...well, its getting bigger since Whistler got the 2010 olympics. But I have checked Walmart and found a few things. I have the Kraft BBQ sauce already, but I have to do somemore research. I have not purchased much or tried any baking b/c I am waiting for my Biopsy results, which I get this week. from what I have researched, I should be okay as Iam not a flour eater at all...never eat bread or anything like that. I do however eat a bit of junk food and will have to change that, mind you I have already researched into the goodies and found alot of the stuff I like is gluten free, so I am excited there. I am going to try and get my kids to eat less gluten so if they come down with it then it wont be so hard to switch them.

    Thanks.

If you can get is, Saz's barbeque sauce is wonderful and it's gluten-free. I believe Sweet Baby Rays is as well.

Just remember that "flour" (as you listed above) hides in soooo many items your would never think have wheat flour in them. I glutened my poor DH by giving him soy sauce (wheat was the 1st or 2nd thing in the ingreditent list). So it hides in places you'd never know. I'm much better at reading labels now!

Pamela's makes an awesome pancake/waffle/baking mix that I cook weekend breakfast's from and my DH also has cereal - watch because there are so many main stream cereals becoming gluten-free (Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, Trix), etc. He also like the frozen Van's waffles. Blueberry especially - but again - not all of their weaffles are gluten-free.

    I hope this helps!

  12. Hi guys, this recipe is awesome, my hubby who is addicted to chocolate asks for it all the time, I have it in the oven right now..enjoy!!

    1 1/2cups flour [i use Beth's gluten-free pantry all-purpose]

    1 1/3 C sugar

    1/2 C sweetened coconut

    1/3 cup pecans [ optional]

    2 tea baking soda

    1 tea salt

    2 tea cinnamon

    3 Tbls oil

    2 lg eggs

2 C grated carrots [i buy then already grated]

1 1/2 cups crushed pinaeapple, drained

    cooking spray

heat oven at 350, combine flour, sugar, coconut, pecan, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a Lg bowl..stir well. combine oil and eggs, stir well, stir in egg mix, carrot and pineapple into flour mixture.

pour into 13x9 pan coated with cooking spray, bake 25-35 mins till toothpick comes out clean

    frosting:

    2 Tbls butter

    1 block cream cheese

    3 C powdered sugar [ I use about 2 1/3 cups, go by taste]

    2 tea vanilla

Thanks for poting this! I can't wait to try it!

  13. I haven't had that problem, but I use mini-chips and I also use quinoa flakes for half the flour instead of plain flour, so my batter's usually a bit thicker and maybe that helps hold them up? It wouldn't be a bad idea tobutter flour the pan too though. Do you bake in glass?

No, I use a non-stick metal loaf pan (like an EKCO). When I used to made his sandwich bread in there (prior to using the Breadman) it popped out great every time. It's just this darned banana bread!

I think I will also try the minis - I bought them so I could make muffins for him too (banana overkill anyone?) because the regular chocolate chips just seem too big for muffins.

Thank you, also, for your suggestions!

  14. Try tossing the chocolate chips with the dry ingredients to coat them with the flour and etc., this keeps them from sinking to the bottom during baking and distributes them evenly, then fold in your wet ingredients.

Thank you! :D That makes so much sense. I've been using my KitchenAid mixer for this and I really don't think I hvae to. If I were to just fold in the wet ingredients like you said, the mixture also wouldn't be thinned out so much (from the beater).

Thank you! I will try again this weekend!

  15. Hello!

I'm so frustrated. My husband loves the banana bread I make him. He also loves chocolate chips. So last week I made a banana bread with chocolate chips in it. It looks as though all the chocolate chips dropped to the bottom of the pan and I couldn't even get the bread out of the pan! I tried "separating" the bread from the pan with a knife...nothing. :( So he had to dig it out to eat it. He absolutely loved it and so did out non-celiac disease 7 yo son. I have to admit it was really good. But I want it to come out of the pan so I can SLICE it! Does anyone have any suggestions? All I did was spray the pan with a GB butter spray. Should I be gluten-free "flouring" it to? Should I just use mini chocolate chips and hope they dont sink all the way? Instead of mixing them into the bread batter - should I just sprinkle them on right before I put it in the oven??? I always have a hard time getting the bread out...but this was a mess!

Thanks for any help you can give! :)

  16. Hi everyone!

O.k....here's my problem: I usually don't buy any pre-mixed flours, convenience food, etc. (Mainly because of financial reasons). I cook by recipes, etc. Well, I purchased Arrowhead Mills Pancake and baking mix this week. (I've been craving good pancakes and can't seem to make them). Anyway, these pancakes did not turn out yummy at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do with the rest of the mix? I certainly won't be making any more pancakes, but surely there is some kind of other use for this mix. I'm not throwing it away.

So...you guys are so helpful and creative, I thought maybe you could offer some alternative recipes besides just pancakes and/or muffins.

    Thanks so much! -Julie :)

I know this wasn't exacty what you are looking for...but...my hubby loves the pancakes I make out of the Pamela's mix. It's the only one he will eat. And they are really easy - only 4 ingredients.

    Good luck.

  17. Hi, I am new to the site. The doc says I have Celiac Disease. Having two issues with it. One which I have a handle on now. I like P&J sandwiches, but I have found a few good bread recipies.

Then #2. Where is the a list of Gluten free beers? I have a week spot for the harder achohol and need to stay with beer. Can anyone help me out? Would like to get it in a can if possible.

    Thanks, and take care B)

My husband likes Red Bridge, but also New Grist by Lakefront Brewery (out of Milwaukee).
