I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with husband problems! I think the main problem with mine is that he doesn't want it to affect him. We're super busy with 3 kids (3, 2, and 1!) and he just doesn't have time for it. I've decided it's like being pregnant. It's something I had to deal with every minute of every day - and he would be a part of it when he wanted to. It wasn't something he HAD sitting staring him in the face - and so if he didn't have to think about it he didn't want to. It's hurtful - b/c you want them to be concerned about you and care about how you feel - but that's not happening in everyday life! He actually forgets sometimes that I have to watch what I eat - he still does dumb stuff - like put all of the noodles into the chilli and forget I had some for myself on the side that need sauce!
I actually flat out yelled at him yesterday - said he was trying to make me sick. That he must want me to feel bad. I think that me being so vehement about it kind of put it out there for him - that this is something he doesn't want to mess with me about.
THe part that gets me is my family - they are great - super supportive. My mom said something about my huband being an angel - that he just eats what I fix and doesn't complain. I had to bite my tounge...
I agree with Nancy - I do the shopping, etc - so I'm just doing what I need to do. Making a point of moving things away from my food that he may bring home. Keeping his bread in a basket by itself no where near the pantry. Making a point of telling everyone to wash their hands after dinner or after a snack - or after they touch anything gluten. Stuff that will just make it part of his everyday routine so that he doesn't have to deal with it - it is just kind of fixed....
Maybe make a point of telling him on the days that you feel good - that you feel great. Then maybe when you get contaminated he'll notice a real difference, b/c he's heard how great you're doing - and then now you're not so great....
Good luck - I wish I could help!!

They are good! I don't know if they are gluten-free - when they email you back make sure you post! They are great in the summertime...

Thanks!
WHat kind of snacks did you take for the trip? I was going to make at least the car ride totally gluten-free (i'm the only one who is gluten-free right now) so that I don't have to figure out how to clean my hands so much before I eat a snack. Any suggestions?

YEA!
I'm going to FL soon and am so excited that I'll be feeling great for the car ride! NOw the only thing I'm worried about is keeping my 3, 2, and 1 year olds sane for the drive

Aluminum foil - what a great idea!
I bought a toaster oven instead of another toaster - my only investment so far. Well worth it! I love that it's so easy to clean and everyone can use it - since my house is not all gluten-free (yet - we may be doing that soon)...
I posted something that explains how you can claim it on your taxes for NoGluGirl and I don't know how to insert the link into this...I'll try and figure it out and then post it....

I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes I even have it when I close my eyes. I just went gluten-free recently and I notice it more now - maybe because I feel better everywhere else?
-
Yes, he is in pain - I think! He's waking up 3 or 4 times a night and just cries for 5 minutes or so and then goes back to sleep. He seems to have much more gas and burps quite frequently.
I think I would worry less if 5o/25 was closer to where he started out - but he seems to just keep getting lower...
The doctor said the color indicates that his stool is passing through him much more quickly - too quickly...

I'm not much for kitchen gadgets, but I LOVE my rice steamer!!! Perfect rice every time!
Is that the pampered chef one? I've been looking for a good one, b/c I too can't seem to make decent rice. I'll do it the same way every time and once it's good - the other it's terrible
-
So I went and saw the Dr this morning - he went ahead and referred me to a GI. I can't get in for 2 weeks. Any suggestions what to do until then? Should I keep a food diary for the GI? Or cut back on his table food with gluten...?
-
I've been feeling all out of sorts lately and just read on here the other day that drywall has wheat in it. My husband is finishing our basement. So all of the dust from that must be getting to me - I would think it's possible. I wonder if you could suggest your mom taking an alcohol based wipe to all of her kitchen counters, handles, etc before you come. Maybe it is just laying on the surfaces - gluten is sticky - not just anything will clean it from what I understand...
-
You said that afternoon though - right? Is that the only thing you ate? Was it surrounded by something else? I'm new at this -but maybe that wasn't the culprit. I think that when I'm finally healthy from going gluten-free that's going to be the hardest thing - pinpointing what made you sick!
Good luck - hope you're feeling better...

My youngest is almost 13 months. He had a ttg and all came back fine. He is small, but has always been a terrible eater (at first it was because his tounge was tied - that broke on it's own). He seems to have some texture issues though - and still has some trouble chewing. He did grow before his last appt and is 50% in height again, but is still 25% in weight. He hasn't gained any weight since he was 10 months old. He is EXTREMELY active. For example, I found him on the kitchen table today . He runs. He JUMPS! The doctor thinks that some of his weight issues could be that he is just so active and doesn't eat much table food. But he also said that if he hasn't picked up much weight by his next appt (15 mo) - he would call the GI at Children's again to look into other ways to see if it's celiac...
So the last two weeks I've really been pushing the table food and switched him from his formula to whole milk. His poop went from regular to bright green (like neon) and now to mustard yellow. Any idea what this means? Do you think he's intolerant to milk? Or do you think that it's all of the table food (and gluten therefore) that he's been eating? I'm so confused. I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow - but I was just trying to get some ideas...?

It started tonight - was on from 8-10 EST...Is it abc?

So far I've had mostly good experiences - hopefully yours will be the same
Where are you going to eat - maybe someone here has eaten there before and can help out beforehand...

I love this show! I am taping it b/c my 2 yr old little girl LOVES to watch it with me. So we'll watch it tomorrow together - she dances along. It's too cute
I watched the intro just to see who was on this season - looks like it should be good!

WOO HOO!! I'm so excited
I was not much of a bread person before anyway - but LOVE crackers. I haven't found a single thing that I like yet and am so excited to try something new!!!
You made my day

I recently had my endoscopy, and am glad I had it. I found out I have a small hiatal hernia and also was glad to see the extent of my damage. It's a real eye opener to see a picture of your intestine - and then see a healthy one...
-
LaChoy's sweet and sour sauce is gluten-free too - one of the only ones I've seen so far...
-
I dont bake with wheat flour anymore, any gluten comes in the house already made (for hubby).
Kathryn got very sick from playing in an empty grain bin with her cousins, at her Uncle's farm.
She has also gotten sick from working with paper mache.
I have heard of drywallers (with celiac) needing to wear heavy duty masks (more than just the surgical) - or they get sick. Drywall has wheat in it.
Sandy
Drywall has wheat in it! Well no wonder. I'm still learning - so a glutening to me so far is just a weird feeling and some bloating. My husband is in the process of finishing out basement (to give me a place to work out so I can stay healthy!) - we have drywall dust everywhere. I've been trying to figure out for 2 weeks what is making me bloat off and on...
He started mudding today - so hopefully he can get this all wrapped up soon then!
-
That reminds me of my one on-purpose glutening. Before my kids went gluten-free, my son had just eaten something gluteny and he came up and wanted to give me a kiss on the lips for the very first time in his life (he was almost 2.5).
That glutening was worth it.
Nancy
How cute I bet it was worth it!
I just need to find a good substitute for goldfish - my little girl will be devastated if she has to give up her cheesy crackers!
-
I haven't tried it yet - but my nutritionist said that one of her patients uses waffles to make sandwiches! And to make mini-pizzas!
-
How sad Even if she doesn't have celiac - she's going to have a complex. The mom needs to be in charge of what she eats (making sure she gets a protein in the morning to stick with her, etc) - and make sure it's healthy - not make her diet at age 10! And not starve the poor kid either - let her eat if she's hungry! Activity, activity, activity. That's what my mom always said - keep them busy - good for their health - and not eating just because they're bored.
Since celiac is so prominent in your family - she definitely should be checked for that. I was SO HUNGRY all the time. I ate and ate and ate....
Good luck - I know it's hard to hear bad news about your own kids from someone else - maybe you could print off some articles or similar situations to help prove your point...?
-
Woo Hoo! First The View, now TIME. It's about time!
-
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only too! I'm laughing here out loud!
I've licked my finger - been given goldfish kisses - and my stupidest - was trying to finish up some pre gluten-free ketchup that I had - and gave the kids the gluten-free kind and me the nonGF kind - didn't realize it until I started to feel bad and looked at the bottle sitting next to my plate

Thanks so much for your insight. I forget that men think so much differently than we do. Maybe instead of saying - you're doing this wrong and this wrong, etc. I need to be like I am with my kids (no offense!) and say thanks so much for... whenever he does something to help me or washes his hands after eating gluten, etc. Then maybe he won't feel so helpless... and he'll be able to see what I need him to do to keep me healthy. But positively.
You're right - I think I've been so stressed about getting it all right - and quickly - that I somehow expect him to keep up with me. But he really only needs to know enough to have basic survival in the house - and I shouldn't get so offended that he doesn't care to know or understand more.
As far as the hurtful things your husband says - good luck. HOpefully he'll change his tune soon...
