I have also heard that you could just submit it your cafeteria plan. I was actually planning on calling my provider sometime this week to check.

You can make a really great stuffing using the Vans waffles. My gluten-free hubby says it's the closest to stove top taste he's had!!
Cali
Do you have the recipe for that?
I've tried the Vans ones - what is the weird almost minty flavor that's there? I had a hard time with the texture - but just toasted them. I'll have to try the suggestions above...

I don't know, so this is just a guess.. But I think it means things made in the US. So if its made in mexico, and it has maltodextrin in it, there is no guarantee it is gluten-free. I don't think the selling location matters, just the manufacturing...
That's what I thought, but wasn't sure...Anyone know for sure?

I had some last week for the first time - they were yummy! I don't think I had an issue with them - I haven't had any "glutenings" yet - I've only been at this for a month - so I'm still learning and not all better yet...

Eating Gluten Free is also tax deductible! YOu can either claim it through your cafeteria plan or you can deduct the cost of gluten-free products that are in excess of the cost of what you are replacing. Or anything you wouldn't usually need (like Xanthan Gum) can be deducted in full. You can also chart mileage to the health food store - or delivery expenses in full. Wild Oats gave me a little print out on it....

My husband likes Jose Ole Taquitos Chicken flavor (in corn tortillas).
We are new to the ingrediant reading, but I think they are gluten free - Stone ground corn masa flour, water, guar gum, vegetable oil - tortillas. filling - chicken meat with modified corn starch, salt, sodium phosphate, water, and then less than 2% of peppers, onions, alt, spice, garlic and onion powder, paprika, chicken flavor, salt, maltodextrin, sugar, fat, whey, vegetable stock (carrot, onion, celery), flavors and turmeric, vinegar, soy flour, modified food starch.
We were told that in the US, in the last couple of years, companies have been required to put on their labels if the modified food starch is from wheat. If it is not listed, then its from corn.
The box also lists that is contains milk and soy. (other versions say they contain wheat, but this one doesn't).
What about the Maltodextrin? I'm new at label reading too - and I thought I watched for that one...Is that another US is corn - others may use something else?
I have the demelix ones too - I found them at Walmart and Target (I LOVE TARGET). They are yummy with salsa

You're definitely right about the workplace. What's sad is my office is 90% women and we have absolutely no where to go to pump. My boss hung black construction paper up in the windows of a conference room so she could pump while she froze to death in the room we call the freezer. And she had to take the paper down everytime, b/c HR wouldn't allow it to stay up. How sad is that?

I just watched it this morning with the kids (I LOVE DVR!!). They love to dance to it - my 3 year old told me he didn't like Sundance - that he sounded funny I thought that was hilarious...
I really liked Phil - he and Blake were my favorites from last night.
I can't wait for the girls
In that case I should clarify as to not offend Betty! I loved Sundance's audition and thought it was hilarious that me 3 year old told me he sounded funny - b/c for a 3 year old to have an opinion about it - especially when he danced and jumped and sang through the whole thing - just struck me as funny - that he was critiquing them
I also really like Chris - can't wait to watch my DVR of the girls

Why was she against the gene testing? Just curious - I'm going to talk to my ped about it next week...
And good luck

I've tried Olay Quench Therapy Hand Creme and I broke out in a rash (it's gluten-free - My skin is just super sensitive.) I also tried ShiKai Dry Skin Therapy (also gluten-free and broke into a rash). I think I'm going to try good old fashioned Vaseline Intensive Care Advance Healing next....

That is all so helpful! Thanks!
I love aveeno - it really helps my hands - however it has oats in it....
Anyone know about that? Do you think if I use it at night and sleep with it, by morning I could wash the residue off before I eat?
-
OOPs - didn't see your post.
I use 1 lb of ground beef
1/2cup milk (you would have to replace)
1 egg
some onion (depends on how much you like)
and one piece of very toasted gluten-free bread chopped up into pieces.
mix it all up - put in the oven at 350 for 1/2 hour. After 1/2 hour add a can of tomato sauce on top (I use Hunt's). Then cook another 1/2 hour. It's just easy and tasty!

I said potatos b/c I thought she was watching out for them b/c of her other issues....
My husband is loving me having celiac - I've been making homemade mashed potatos and meatloaf at least once a week
I've been doing my trick I learned from Rachel Ray - just toasting a piece of bread (gluten-free of course) until it's REALLY toasted and cutting it into small pieces and just throwing that in.
I'm thinking about emailing her and putting out the suggestion that she pick a day a week to be gluten-free day. On that day she always cooks a new gluten-free 30 min meal....

Thai food is naturally gluten free b/c they don't use soy sauce or msg - so as long as it's authentic and they don't use that (and that you don't put the breaded chicken in your meal) you should be able to enjoy a wide variety of food. That's what I hear anyway....I'm off for my first Thai food post gluten free adventure tomorrow for a work lunch...
-
OHHH
And what about pot roast and beef stew (minus potatos of course).
And salisbury steak and meatloaf.
OK, now I'm officially hungry again...

I know how you feel about never touching gluten again. I was gluten free almost 4 whole weeks before my endo (I was losing too much weight too quickly and really dehydrated) - and there was still plenty of damage to be seen...My Dr told me not to bother going back on gluten - she didn't believe in making yourself sick over it - positive dietary response is good enough for her to confirm what the bloodtests already said...
As for food
I really like the Thai Kitchen meals for something quick. Also like pork tenderloin with white rice and some sweet and sour sauce and veggies. Or just a good old fashioned steak. YUM!

I would also love to hear the answer to this...
I need a great hand lotion - my knuckles are bleeding from washing so much
I tried a new one and I now have a rash - thought it was gluten free - but always have had sensitive skin so it could be even something else...

I know exactly what you mean! I was feeling so much better, the D had stopped and I felt like I was on the right path and wham! It was like detox (I guess...)
I was lucky - it only lasted about 2 days for me - then it progressively got better. So hopefully you'll be on the mend here soon
A note about the kids - my 3 year doesn't understand why I can't share his goldfish anymore. So now we share fruit snacks instead - just as Yummy and a special treat to him...He keeps asking when my belly is going to heal - how hard is that to explain! But already he's noticed a change in my energy level and the amount of fun we have - so he is starting to be less concerned with me and my belly. So it will look up - I promise - and I've only been at this not quite 5 weeks!
-
Good for you and for him! I need to be as assertive with my husband... It's hard to tell someone who doesn't understand anything about what we have what we are going through.
As for the beer, Anheiser Busch has a new Gluten Free Beer called Redbridge and I hear that some bars, etc are starting to carry it.... YEA!
-
That's why I said I had to admit that sometimes it is necessary!
That's why I made my edit - I missed that part! That's what I get for skimming....
I did nurse that often - if not more. With the second I never even got engorged...Milk just never came. And she was my best latcher. The hospital I used is a Catholic hospital - so they are Gung Ho on the nursing thing. I had a lactation consultant right away and the whole time I stayed. I had to make a feeding chart and they would watch 4 or so a day. They even have a woman's services where you can go back for the first few weeks and meet with the lactation consultants again... to no avail for me
I HATED the pump. It never worked for me. I NEVER pumped more than a 1/4 ounce total. And that was at my best

We used to go there for drinks and appetizers once a week after girls night out volleyball. Now I can only eat the chips and drink a coke. We're trying to find somewhere else to go where I can eat an appetizer too - not a full meal.
One of the best places I've been since all of this happened is Texas Roadhouse. Had a GREAT experience and food was excellent. They have a gluten free menu - and the manager at our branch - his mother has celiac! So they are very advanced....
-
Do you think celiac can affect milk supply? There are people in the world who have to use formula - my milk didn't even come in for one of my 3. As for the other two, I practically starved them - and had to supplement so that they didn't have to spend their first few months in the hospital b/c of severe jaundice, but lost my milk completely by 10 weeks. Didn't even hurt - it was just gone....
I'm curious to read up on this - if you're born with the gene, you're born with the gene - right? So if you're formula fed it can lead to it actually becoming active they think? Or they are just the ones that are finally being diagnosed...?

I always keep a bag of trail mix in the car - just in case. I love some that I found at Walgreen's of all places...
It has dried fruit, peanuts and cashews, and just the right amount of little bits of white chocolate...
A handful can keep you tied over for a couple of hours if you don't have time for a full meal...
