  1. @cristiana Thank you so much. At last check my iron level was OK but I will keep an eye on that. I was iron deficient in my 20's and then really anemic when I was pregnant with my daughter 35+ years ago but it has been OK since then. In 2016 I was vitamin D defincient so started taking 5 to 6000 IU per day. Then in April 2022 I learned that I was likely...
  2. @knitty kitty My heart beat is pounding in my ears. I remember a post last year that talked about a vitamin deficiency that causes that. Would you please remind me what it is? Thank you so much!
  3. Dylan Dreyer on the Today Show's son Cal has celiac. Having more celebrities diagnosed will bring more attention to this. I was super lucky. I live in Anacortes Washington USA and had to have emergency gall bladder surgery. Island Hospital did great - about having gluten free options and lactose free too.
  4. When my daughter was little she was getting tummy aches with milk and then later diarrhea too. She naturally stayed away from milk products and I didn't force them on her. She drank water with meals. Later she had a D attack right after eating something with whipped cream so then we knew for sure - she was Lactose Intolerant. Meanwhile - I learned last...
  5. I have not been officially diagnosed but have close relatives on my mom's side of the family that were diagnosed with celiac. I had a lot of the really bad symptoms so once I found out that it was in the family, I went gluten free. One of my symptoms was DH - super bad rash around my neck and in other places. And I had sores on my head. I stopped using...
  6. I have not been officially diagnosed but had problems with a rash around my neck & itchy dry skin behind my years. This all got much better once I went gluten free. But I was still having problems - and figured out I was handling our cat's dry food which contained wheat. I also had lesions on my head caused by a hair conditioner that had wheat in it...
  7. I still have issues too - and have a few changes of underwear and a pair of pants with me at all times. I wear pads sometimes too. I first went gluten free in May of last year. I had a couple of months more of cross contamination when we were figuring out how to share a kitchen. Once we figured that out, things slowly started to get better. But I was still...
  8. The lactose became a question once I had eliminated most gluten and cross contamination but still had issues. I had an egg the other day and experienced bloating later. I will be watching to see if eggs are an issue for me. So far oats are OK but I'm going to watch the brands that I buy.
  9. You may not experience a lactose problem now - but be on the lookout. Often folks with celiac will discover they have problems with other things too. For me I didn't realize that lactose was a problem until I'd been off of gluten for a while. If your daughter has a problem - you may have a problem later.
  10. Vegan food helps eliminate lactose. I am still figuring out what dairy I can and can't have. Hard, aged cheese like cheddar, swiss, parmesan are low lactose and seem to be OK. Oat milk is good and creamy so I'm going with that. Products with skim milk in them seem to be OK. But - first eliminate the gluten & gluten cross contamination and then see...
  11. My kids often had leg pain when they were growing. It came and went....
  12. I would be concerned by hives if this were my child. I experienced hives when I was having an allergic reaction. It was something in the air - so I took an anti-histamine and that helped me. Around the mouth sounds like a food allergy and I would mention it to her doctor and avoid that food. She could possibly go into anaphylactic shock. Often allergic...
  13. Your dog food very likely has wheat in it. I read the label on our dry cat food and it had wheat and other gluten ingredients. Once I stopped handling that - my DH cleared up, a lot. My husband eats gluten. I do not. We split our kitchen so to the left of the sink is dedicated gluten-free and to the right of the sink is where the regular bread and other...
  14. I have not been officially diagnosed with celiac but have first cousins and their kids that have been officially diagnosed. I have all kinds of symptoms including DH. I had rash and lesions all over and eczema behind my ears which improved greatly when I stopped eating gluten in May. But I still had problems. It was due to cross contamination in my household...
  15. It just crossed my mind - in the 70's we were told to stop eating salt and a lot of folks had iodized salt. They didn't bother to tell us how to supplement the iodine! 😃
