@cristiana Thank you so much. At last check my iron level was OK but I will keep an eye on that. I was iron deficient in my 20's and then really anemic when I was pregnant with my daughter 35+ years ago but it has been OK since then. In 2016 I was vitamin D defincient so started taking 5 to 6000 IU per day. Then in April 2022 I learned that I was likely...

@knitty kitty My heart beat is pounding in my ears. I remember a post last year that talked about a vitamin deficiency that causes that. Would you please remind me what it is? Thank you so much!

Dylan Dreyer on the Today Show's son Cal has celiac. Having more celebrities diagnosed will bring more attention to this. I was super lucky. I live in Anacortes Washington USA and had to have emergency gall bladder surgery. Island Hospital did great - about having gluten free options and lactose free too.

When my daughter was little she was getting tummy aches with milk and then later diarrhea too. She naturally stayed away from milk products and I didn't force them on her. She drank water with meals. Later she had a D attack right after eating something with whipped cream so then we knew for sure - she was Lactose Intolerant. Meanwhile - I learned last...

I have not been officially diagnosed but have close relatives on my mom's side of the family that were diagnosed with celiac. I had a lot of the really bad symptoms so once I found out that it was in the family, I went gluten free. One of my symptoms was DH - super bad rash around my neck and in other places. And I had sores on my head. I stopped using...

I have not been officially diagnosed but had problems with a rash around my neck & itchy dry skin behind my years. This all got much better once I went gluten free. But I was still having problems - and figured out I was handling our cat's dry food which contained wheat. I also had lesions on my head caused by a hair conditioner that had wheat in it... -
Underwear protection from sudden diarrhea
LCAnacortes replied to Julie E's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I still have issues too - and have a few changes of underwear and a pair of pants with me at all times. I wear pads sometimes too. I first went gluten free in May of last year. I had a couple of months more of cross contamination when we were figuring out how to share a kitchen. Once we figured that out, things slowly started to get better. But I was still... -
You may not experience a lactose problem now - but be on the lookout. Often folks with celiac will discover they have problems with other things too. For me I didn't realize that lactose was a problem until I'd been off of gluten for a while. If your daughter has a problem - you may have a problem later.

Vegan food helps eliminate lactose. I am still figuring out what dairy I can and can't have. Hard, aged cheese like cheddar, swiss, parmesan are low lactose and seem to be OK. Oat milk is good and creamy so I'm going with that. Products with skim milk in them seem to be OK. But - first eliminate the gluten & gluten cross contamination and then see...

I would be concerned by hives if this were my child. I experienced hives when I was having an allergic reaction. It was something in the air - so I took an anti-histamine and that helped me. Around the mouth sounds like a food allergy and I would mention it to her doctor and avoid that food. She could possibly go into anaphylactic shock. Often allergic...

Your dog food very likely has wheat in it. I read the label on our dry cat food and it had wheat and other gluten ingredients. Once I stopped handling that - my DH cleared up, a lot. My husband eats gluten. I do not. We split our kitchen so to the left of the sink is dedicated gluten-free and to the right of the sink is where the regular bread and other...

Does your DH change? How do you cope with DH?
LCAnacortes replied to Arietti's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have not been officially diagnosed with celiac but have first cousins and their kids that have been officially diagnosed. I have all kinds of symptoms including DH. I had rash and lesions all over and eczema behind my ears which improved greatly when I stopped eating gluten in May. But I still had problems. It was due to cross contamination in my household... -
Possible Symptoms of Celiac?
LCAnacortes replied to Seethefacts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It just crossed my mind - in the 70's we were told to stop eating salt and a lot of folks had iodized salt. They didn't bother to tell us how to supplement the iodine! 😃 -
Sides Hurt.
LCAnacortes replied to Matty007's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The pain you describe sounds like bloating to me too - and I had feelings like that as well. To me - it feels like gas that has no place to go. I went gluten free in May & then diary free in August. I was still having problems - mostly due to cross contamination in my household. My pain has been much better. It used to be every night but now it is... -
Hair loss
LCAnacortes replied to MiriamW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I should also mention in a hair care thread - to be sure to check your hair products for wheat. My conditioner had wheat in it and I had itchy lesions and bumps on my head. I stopped using it and everything went away. Wishing you the very best! -
Hair loss
LCAnacortes replied to MiriamW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For those of us living in the northern parts of our countries - Washington and Alaska in the USA and Canada and the UK, we don't get enough sunshine so it is really common to be low in vitamin D. It is dark outside for a good part of the winter. Around 4:15 pm or so where I live now. I was still eating diary and gluten when my vitamin D was so low. I didn... -
Hair loss
LCAnacortes replied to MiriamW's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In 2016, I lost a LOT of hair following a bout of pneumonia. It fell out by the roots. It really freaked me out and I didn't know why it was happening. It occurred 3 months after I had pneumonia so it seemed totally out of the blue. I learned that it is common for people to lose hair due to oxygen deprivation because the body sends the oxygen to more important... -
I just checked the ingredients of my cats dry food and there are several gluten products in it. We have a 20# bag or something so I was just getting a handful out of it. I'm going to stop doing that - or wash my hands thoroughly right after. Probably explains why I still have some DH type flare ups too.

Sharing a kitchen…
LCAnacortes replied to Ashraq's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am so sorry you are going through this. I have not been officially diagnosed. I went gluten free in April and then figured out a few months later that dairy is also a problem for me. I am pretty sensitive to gluten. My husband and I ended up splitting up the sink area - to the left is gluten free and to the right is contaminated. We have a dishwasher... -
I am so sorry you are going through this. I have had a whole host of issues over the course of my life but only recently tied it to gluten. I have not been officially diagnosed. I went gluten free in April and then figured out a few months later that dairy is also a problem for me. I can eat hard cheeses and some skim milk cheese but everything else gives...

Gluten free summer camp
LCAnacortes replied to Lana H.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter works at Warm Beach Camp and Conference Center near Stanwood, Washington. They have dietary options for gluten free, dairy free etc. I have not heard of a camp where the whole camp is gluten free. -
I was getting lesions on my head - from a hair conditioner that contained wheat. Be sure to check all of your personal care products for gluten and your pet food & care products too. Any exposure to gluten can cause a flare. I haven't been diagnosed but have something that seems to be DH. It went much better when I went gluten free back in May. I...

gluten-free Bread
LCAnacortes replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure. I can find it in our grocery stores so I buy it there. They package it so that it lasts a long time. I just checked and you can order it from Walmart. They may have it at your local Walmart store.
