Some folks have issues with "nightshades" - and tomatoes is one of them. I'm thinking of doing a food diary too. Since going gluten free - dairy has become an issue for me.

Daughter seems to get sick even from touching gluten
LCAnacortes replied to Brook-lyn's topic in Super Sensitive People
I have a sensitivity to fragrances too - so buy unscented products. I had to run through the cosmetic section at a department store. I have been that way since I was little. My daughter and I were passing through Nordstrom and they had a wedding exhibit going on and when we passed by the perfume I waved them away because I am allergic. They told me that... -
My daughter starting getting kidney stones in her 20's. Her doctor put her on Flomax to pass them. It is a prostate drug but it dialates things so that the stones can pass through. The pharmacist looked at her funny when she picked up the prescription but she said "kidney stone" and they said ohhhhhhhh, okay. They told her low oxalate diet to avoid forming...

My Stomach Hates Me
LCAnacortes replied to Ginger38's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am so sorry. I have definitely been on that road. I have a change of clothes with me at all times. I haven't bothered to take Imodium or whatever because it didn't seem to help. I don't eat out much and I tell my server I am gluten free so no croutons etc. Then I take notes on how it went. If we did okay then I go there again. If not - then I don't. If... -
Coping with celiac and relationships
LCAnacortes replied to Hol.lydo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Hollie - I am new to this too, although I haven't been diagnosed. I figured it out by having a strong gene in the family and the symptoms I was having. I am married so putting my husband out to pasture isn't an option. LOL. We are figuring out how not to cross contaminate here at home. My husband washes his hands after touching gluten containing... -
My Stomach Hates Me
LCAnacortes replied to Ginger38's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since early May 2022. I just learned that we had a major celiac gene in our family and did some research and then went gluten free but boy - I mess it up all of the time. There are a lot of ways that you can contaminate what you're eating. We had to buy a new toaster. Your hair products and some supplements might have wheat in them. It's crazy. Things... -
My Stomach Hates Me

I know your pain - I had the same problem and still have it sometimes. The accidents are awful. You get 2 seconds to make it to the bathroom. Not fun. Dairy can be a problem too - it can cause diarrhea/urgency. And I was using open jars of jam, relish, mayo and soft butter among other things before I realized they were also contaminated. All you have... -
I had explosive, uncontrolled diarrhea too. Luckily I made it to the bathroom most of the time. I have been gluten free since the beginning of May but I still have issues once in a while. I am suspecting milk/dairy might be an issue. Oats can be a problem too. And supplements have helped. Keeping a diary of what she is eating would be good - that might...

I feel so bad
LCAnacortes replied to Sergey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there wonderful, super smart people - I am so grateful for this site! In several posts supplements are recommended but I am not sure which ones, what form and how many mg, mcg or IU to take. Do you have a recommended list? I am trying to supplement but am not sure if I'm taking enough. Also I remember doctors use to give vitamin B shots - is that... -
I also had pain in my diaphragm area and that went away when I stopped eating gluten. So much of the stuff going on with me now makes sense. I am so grateful for this board. Thank you and thank you to all of the wise members found here. 💜

My daughter had an MRI and they saw a bubble in her system. I had a colonoscopy and it was super uncomfortable when they got all of the way up there - so was wondering if I have/had a bubble too. Could that be caused by gluten? An interesting thought

Help please!
LCAnacortes replied to Shem's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there - I stopped gluten at the beginning of May and I dropped a lot of water initially too and was overjoyed because I had been dealing with it for years. But some water retention came back a week later and I was super disappointed. My mom had water retention all of her life and water pills didn't help - now we know why. Gluten issues come from her side... -
Test results
LCAnacortes replied to Eileen B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Centralia is the city name. I live in Anacortes - also in Western Washington. Consider where the Celiac came from. It has to be on his mother or father's side of the family and there could be silent or unrecognized symptoms there. Once I started remembering things that I heard family members were dealing with - it was apparent that it was rampant in my... -
I am so sorry to hear of your problems - but know that you are not alone. If I mess up - I am in the bathroom for hours. I can definitely relate to how you phrased things. Things got complicated for me - living with a person that is not gluten free. Something that might start out as gluten free - ends up getting contaminated. I'm still figuring out all...

I live near Seattle Washington USA and our climate is similar to the UK. One of my early symptoms was really low vitamin D levels. I started supplementing that before I realized that I probably have celiac. I have not been diagnosed officially - but it runs heavily in my family - several cousins have either been diagnosed or have the DNA marker for it....

Question about celiac testing
LCAnacortes replied to mspat3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually when I got thinking about it the rash wasn't just around my neck - it was in other personal areas too. I have been taking several supplements - a good B complex etc. but I'm going to have my vitamin levels tested in case I'm not taking enough. My doctor retired so I'll be starting over there. -
Question about celiac testing
LCAnacortes replied to mspat3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The uncontrolled, explosive diarrhea for me started more than 10 years ago. At first I thought I ate something bad but then it happened more and more. Within the last couple of years it got so bad that I could barely leave the house. It had to be a good day to go to the store. I kept a change of clothes with me. I have a rash around my neck that... -
I found that Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free bread is good and not so dense so it doesn't need to be toasted. I'm new to this whole deal too - and didn't even think about the toaster so thanks for asking that question! It is taking time for my symptoms to go away. There are others in that boat with you. I had severe diarrhea which has subsided but it still...

I found out in April 2022 that celiac runs on my mother's side of the family and several of my cousins have been diagnosed or has the DNA marker or has symptoms. My mother had serious water retention in her legs, feet and ankles all of her life and water pills didn't help. I started retaining water around the time I turned 30. The doctor wanted to put me...
