  1. My initial symptom of celiac that started me down the path toward a diagnosis was anemia. Iron supplements have gotten me to the point where I am no longer anemic, however I am still significantly iron deficient. I get my first iron infusion today. The hematologist said that I am going to need infusions over the longer term - at least once a year,...
  2. Hah, I mentioned something to my husband after the diagnosis and his mind was absolutely boggled. He didn't understand how I could just be living in constant discomfort.
  3. I appreciate all of the input! After speaking with my GI yesterday, he doesn’t want me on anything more until I see a hematologist. Apparently my biopsy showed pretty significant damage and it sounds like he’s concerned about my ability to absorb orally (which is kind of yikes, but I guess we’ll see). He also mentioned the potential need for an ir...
  4. I’m waiting to talk to my GI before starting any supplements beyond what I’m already on (iron and C). I am borderline B12 deficient so he had already wanted me to see a hematologist for injections.
  5. Yesterday morning, I ran a 5K race and set a personal best for that course. Yesterday afternoon, my charts at my GI’s office updated with the results of my biopsies, confirming celiac. It was a very up and down day for me. If you’re a runner, you know that we live on carbs. Post-race food is usually bagels, soft pretzels, BEER…and bananas, of cours...
  6. Well, my chart just updated even though it’s Saturday. “Duodenal mucosa with markedly increased intraepithelial lymphocytes and villous blunting, consistent with celiac disease.” So it looks like I’m sticking around.
  7. Please ask for a full iron panel to be run the next time you get labs, including your ferritin. It is really important to understand the root cause of your anemia. That's how I've ended up down this path - my GP sent me to a GI to rule out internal bleeding, celiac, etc as the reason for my deficiency. (My GI would now like me to go and see a hematologist...
  8. Make sure your Ferritin levels are being tested when you're getting the iron panel. While your iron may be in the correct range, your ferritin levels can cause a surprising number of symptoms. My iron and TIBC panel actually came back normal with my last round of labs, but my ferritin is in the toilet. Do you have a root cause for your anemia, or were...
  9. Correct, no evidence of bleeding.
  10. Visually, yes, but a biopsy was sent off as well. I do not have reflux.
  11. It seems like I’m headed down some form of elimination diet regardless of the results of the biopsy. They found eosinophilic esophagitis during the endoscopy. My doctor told me afterward that it’s a 50% chance that I do have celiac, but we won’t know until the biopsy comes back in a couple of weeks.
  12. It’s both. I was scheduled for both procedures before the blood work came back and they were trying to narrow down the cause of my anemia.
  13. I have not started on a gluten free diet. I only received the last part of the blood test results on Thursday, so there really hasn’t been much time to process. Though I guess today is gluten-free just by virtue of having to prepare for the colonoscopy, LOL.
  14. Hey folks. Celiac is a new rabbit hole for me. Back in January, my PCP had a regular panel run for my annual checkup (first in quite a few years) and it came back with an iron deficiency. I started on a supplement and she referred me to a GI to rule out internal bleeding, etc. My GI ordered a more detailed panel and scheduled me for upper/lower, which...
