Question about being Glutened
VictoriaSmith replied to VictoriaSmith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What ways have you found it to be helpful? I'm curious how it helps celiac disease or NCGS. -

Ooh, I'll definitely give it a try. It's always been hard to find good tasting milk. -

Thank you. I've recently added more fish, nuts/seeds and eggs to my diet. I love munching on sunflower seeds as a snack. Tried almond milk for the first time too, I highly doubt I'll go back to cows milk now. It tastes better to me. -

That is true. I would say there are defiencies with both celiac disease and NCGS. I personally think that the reason why some doctors aren't as knowledgeable or take much stock in vitamin/minerals, it takes away from their jobs. If it's always as easy to take say Vitamin D for depression, or B vitamins for Neruopathy, that would make their jobs easier... -

I've also recently learned that taking a probiotc is helpful during the healing process. What is a good one to take? I do have some lactobacillus acidophilus, is that a safe option? -

I understand this completely. I don't have medical insurance as well. I have a copayment everytime I go in to see my Dr, but that does add up quick. I don't know where your at, but in my state there are a few local free or income based clinics for mental health. Perhaps you could find one in your area? It wouldn't be a bad idea to get in and talk with... -
I was curious if you could be glutened from breathing in smoke from food that has burnt or food residue burning off? Be it from oven, stove eye, grill etc. I've googled and it just keeps listing you can from flour particles in the air.

Possible Celiac?

Got good news at the eye doctor yesterday! I read 20/20 in my good eye (right) for the first time. I've always been 20/60 in that one. My Astigmatism and Farsightedness has improved as well. My left eye is still the same 20/200 but didn't expect improvements there anyhow. The chordial nevus in both eyes was the same, no increase in size there... -

Thank you for sharing this. Definitely something I needed to read being new to the diet. Going to let my family members read it as well. -
Dealing with the Hopelessness

I've now been gluten free for a month. Very new and inexperienced to the diet and all the ways I can be cross contaminated. My doctor refused to test me when I brought my concerns up since there's no other logical explanation for all my symptoms, and wanted me to try gluten-free for a week. Like a week would do anything... Referred to it as an allergy... -

That is really interesting! So Diabetics can improve or better manage their DR with Thiamine? My husband is Type 1 (Diagnosed at 9) and he was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy last year. Been doing the shots in his right once a month and recently done the laser in his left. The right eye has greatly improved, and they seemed to caught the left one... -

I've also made an appointment for my eye doctor on Tuesday, since my vision has gotten worse recently. Eyes are more sensitive to light and bright colors, notice more floaters/bright spots and they hurt alot. I'm legally blind in my left eye and have always had double vision because of it. Lazy Eye on left with Astigmatism in both. But I've recently... -

It is amazing how quick the response was! Im starting to notice some small results in my psoriasis as well, less redness. Hopefully I'll continue to have some improvement there. Now if I can get this pesky tingling, joint/muscle pain and headaches to go away I'll feel so much better. Still taking the vitamins, so hopefully that will eventually show some... -

I finished wearing the heart monitor for a week on Tuesday and turned it in. The Heart Center told me could take up to 3 weeks to get my results back. Hopefully all is well there. At this point I'm just ready for some sort of answers though. Curiosity got the best of me and I have been trying a GFD for almost 3 weeks now since I don't go back to... -

Thank you! I'll definitely get some of the samples to try. Anything that doesn't leave a greasy oily feel and residue is fine by me. I crochet and draw/paint as well. I stopped using all commercial made products for psoriasis for that reason, even coconut oil. T-gel did help with my scalp tremendously, but it stunk to high heavens. -

It's like a lot of research done today, I don't fully trust it's going to what they're supposed to be doing with it. Granted some have made incredible discoveries with research. -
Possible Celiac?

I would say it is. I used to lay out in the sun (with a good sunscreen, never to tan) when I was much younger, because it did help with my psoriasis. I became too worried about prolonged exposure and skin cancer to keep relying on it alone. It's like the light therapy bed they stuck me in as a kid, who knows what that did in regards to my chances of... -

That doesn't surprise me. Of all the dermatologists I saw as a kid I had only one tell me Vitamin D was the best thing for my psoriasis, not some ointment or sticking me in a UV bed everyday that did absolutely nothing for it. Lol -

Which Tallow Balm do you use? I noticed they have quite a few different scents. -

I didn't recieve vitamin D plasma results. They ran a basic metabolic and blood count on me, Doctor said all was normal there. I'm definitely going to request a vitamin/minerals test to be done. Especially since the other labs (C Reactive Protien, Sedimentation Rate, ANA, CCP, and Rheumatoid Factor) all came back negative or just slightly elevated. My... -

I hope they start making the connection soon. For a disease, you'd think more doctors would know a bit more about it. At least not refer to it as an allergy instead of auto immune. I'd hadn't made any changes to my diet then. I've always eaten the same things, which is what threw me off to why I flared up like I did. The only thing I can guess the cause... -
Possible Celiac?

That is very enlightening. So people with psoriasis may have elevated levels, but they're not always likely to have celiac disease? I wonder what that means, does that show there may just be a gluten sensitivity? It is interesting to read how we're more susceptible to having celiac disease, you'd think my DR would have had me tested anyways. It makes... -
Possible Celiac?

My labs came back from the last doctor visit. My ANA tested negative, Rheumatoid Factor tested negative, My inflammatory markers were elevated but that was to be expected due to my psoriasis. So, back to square one with the doctor. -

I had just been reading on magnesium! Definitely going to add it along with the B Complex as well. You'd think they'd be more knowledgeable about the vitamins/minerals that keep the body functioning, considering everything else they learn. Goes to show what you learn in books can only take you so far. Of course my husband had a doctor that didn...
