  1. That is extremely helpful and I really appreciate the info! I couldn't find any info on the web about this before posting. That even answers why he cannot handle chocolate! Thank you!!
  2. Has anyone experienced gluten symptoms from water ice? My son has had two instances where he had Rita's and Kona ice and then had a gluten reaction afterward. Is there some connection with sugar or something? Does anyone know why these gluten free foods trigger a reaction? We eliminated chocolate from his diet because the same thing would happen with that...
  3. Welcome to the forum!! It is overwhelming at first, but I promise it does get easier. Start small and don't be hard on yourself when you get glutened. It's a learning process. For my son, we try to make the best of it and have some fun with it. We like to try gluten-free foods and rate them. We try to find the gluten-free version of his favorite meals/snacks...
  4. My oldest son and my husband are celiac and me and my youngest son are not. I find that making one gluten free meal for all of us makes life easier. There are so many gluten-free dinner options that taste as good as the regular version, we hardly notice the difference. gluten-free pasta, gluten-free tortillas, gluten-free nuggets are all staples in my house...
  5. Hi! Just like you, the doctors told us that celiac disease could not be "officially" diagnosed for our son without the biopsy even though his blood tests also indicated it was celiac's. I felt awful making my son eat gluten when we knew it was the culprit. They said he only had to have a small amount of gluten each day for it to show up in the biopsy. Then...
  6. Hi! Does anyone know a safe brand of Easter candy, specifically looking for white chocolate rabbits? My son has a reaction to chocolate, so that's out. Most of the brands I saw in the store have a cross contamination risk. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!
  7. My son has had success eating at Chick-fil-A. If you let them know ahead of your order, they will change gloves and put an allergy sticker on it. The fries are made in a separate frier so they are safe to eat. If you are just starting out eating out gluten free, I highly recommend ordering inside as opposed to the drive thru so you can see that your order...
  8. Thank you for your reply! He's 10. I was the one who provided a list of what he could have including a non food prize. They were the ones unwilling to bend on providing anything other than the pretzel unless I brought it in for them.
  9. Hi! I just wanted to get some thoughts on a situation I'm currently dealing with at my son's school. They held a school sponsored event (after school) and they advertised that the prize for attending would be a soft pretzel. When I emailed the school to ask if there would be an alternative provided for my celiac son, I was informed it would be my responsibility...
