  1. I can totally relate! I think our bodies are finally beginning to heal and feel "normal" w/o the gluten and when it's re-introduced the self attacking begins in a fierce way. I've noticed I'm super sensitive to cross contamination now. Within hours I have a screaming headache. When the non-stop nausea sets in, I know exactly what has happened. It takes...
  2. If you're ever in the Peoria IL area - Queen of Squash is 100% gluten-free. Pekin (just outside Peoria) Whiskey Taco is 90% gluten-free. The owner's mom is Celiac so they get it! Just let your server know. https://thequeenofsquash.com/ https://whiskey-taco.com/
  3. Just my own experience. I just went through a similar issue a few months ago. I recommend seeing a Cardiologist or at least a visit to your PCP and explain what's going on. I was in denial of my symptoms, honestly, because I was in complete fear - I suffer with extreme medical anxiety. It came to a point, that I was more worried what could be wrong...
  4. I would ask your PCP for a gastro referral - if you need one. Do a little research in looking for one that specializes in Celiac in your area. And even then it might take a few tries to find the "right" Gastro. My 1st gastro didn't help at all - he tested me for Celiac but I had already been gluten-free due to Hashimoto - still was allowing cross contamination...
  5. Hi! A person can develop Celiac without any of those genes but it's very rare. There are other genes that can be associated with gluten sensitivity. This article may help. https://www.verywellhealth.com/gluten-sensitivity-genes-562967
  6. Hi Mary, I've not been to Italy but I follow a blogger who is celiac & she just came back from from Italy. Here's her link. https://noglutenguru.com/?p=1697 I just glanced at her blog and she notes all the places she was able to eat. Also, Italy test all their population for celiac by age 6 so, they are very celiac friendly - so I hear.
  7. From what I see, she is positive for the HLADQ8 Celiac gene. Having the gene doesn't confirm she has Celiac. Approximately, 30 to 40% of the population carry one or both of these genes. However, having either or both genes does have the potential to develop into Celiac. I'm not well versed in the antibodies so, I won't offer anything to the tTG IgA Ab...
  8. I have Hashimotos - dx in 2018 & Celiac dx in 2023. I've been told once you have any autoimmune disease, the greater your chances for other autoimmune disease to appear. Definitely get her thyroid checked - I don't know that I'd wait till things clear up. The sooner you find out what might be wrong, the sooner she will begin to heal. Good luck...
  9. Hi Chillycat, There are over 300 symptoms related to celiac so there's lots of variations & everyone is different. When I'm glutened, I personally get a screaming headache, nausea, and horrible joint pain, generally lasting about 2 weeks (the joint pain). I used to get a rash in between my fingers that itched like crazy. Not sure when your dr...
  10. I'm assuming due to the severity of my symptoms. I ticked alot of the boxes - early onset osteopenia, anemia, elevated liver enzymes (which climb sky high when I eat gluten) nausea, severe join pain, the rash.... just to name a few. I tried the challenge and couldn't make it 2 weeks, let alone 6 to 8. He said there's no need for the endoscopy - the rash...
  11. Finally, got into a GI (thankfully, extremely knowledgeable GI) and dx me w/ Celiac. Such a relief to have a Dr. actually LISTEN to me. It's confirmation that all these symptoms aren't "in my head". Based on my positive genetic test, symptoms, heritage (this one threw me off a bit) & an occasional rash I get between my fingers (that I had no idea was...
  12. I'm walking in your shoes. I would most definitely get a genetic test first - you don't need to consume gluten for this. At least you'll know if your gene positive. If the genetic test is negative, it's likely something else - such as a wheat allergy. I'm gene positive & made it 19 days on the gluten challenge after being gluten-free for 5...
  13. Hi! I'm not sure what kind of answers I'm looking for - maybe just to talk things out. I'm seriously struggling with taking the Gluten Challenge for the 2nd time. Yes, 2nd time. 🤨 I've been gluten-free for a few years due to thyroid issues (not hashimoto). Anyway, I became extremely sick on vacay this past year....after eating a churro (was in Mexico) a...
