  1. Interesting info Wheatwacked on Choline and it being called B4 in the past. We thought my father in law was being scam by some supplement pushing health advisor (chiropractor?) selling him something with B4. We thought it was an imaginary vitamin since we didn't see it anywhere else. Murilo, my heart goes out to you and your wife. It sounds like you...
  2. I love that you are looking for nutritional ways to help your wife and Knitty Kitty has given some detailed research about the B vitamins which are so needed in nerve and brain function. Craving gluten filled carbs maybe be a symptom of needing those B vitamins. Chemistry is only part of the problem. I come from a family history of depression( lost family...
  3. It is hard find gluten-free options that are a as tasty as your old favorites. When you find them ,stock up. We found gluten-free oreos are just as good as the originals. Try to concentrate more of the naturally gluten-free foods which will be those healthier veggies and lean proteins than standard gluten filled starches. I think we are eating healthier in...
  4. New to Celiac, my daughter is facing this as well, so I will keep you both in my prayers. With my husband's Celiac diagnose last year I am trying to learn all I can to help him and change our cooking habits.(Dining out is the worst.) So I am no expert but I was childbirth instructor and nutrition was a big part of that. Melissa gave some excellent advice...
  5. This article article is especially interesting to me with my daughter expecting her first and being suspected of Celiac like her recently diagnosed Dad. They can't do biopsy until after birth but she is eating gluten free but still having the GI problems. When I was pregnant with her I had severe diarrhea from a stomach bug and there was concern the intestinal...
  6. I had severe anemia and my hematology prescribed iron taken with vitamin c like orange juice first thing in morning and not eating for at least an hour because the calcium in your cereal and milk will keep you from absorbing the iron. So there is some health benefits to the kosher diet of no milk and dairy in the same meal. Vitamin C help iron absorption...
  7. Confused and Sick, God bless you, it must be extremely stressful dealing PCOS issues and gut problems at the same time. I know when i was going through ovarian issues that led to a total hysterectomy some of my symptoms were like the ones my husband is now having with Celiac's. No matter what is causing the abdominal pains, stress makes it all hurt more....
  8. Thank you Wheatwacked for a lot of good info, especially bit about Vitamins A E and folic acid supplements increasing cancer risk. these are all ones i had thought to increase for eye health and other reasons. I know all are better from food sources, and we do eat alot of the veggies high in them like leafy greens, etc. I have also thought we need more Magnesium...
  9. thanks Scott and Trents for the links. I think the supplements that they worry will affect a PSA test are the ones that would be taken to improve symptom like saw palmetto and DHEA. iI was something in his regular men's vitamin and it wasn't harmful but just could raise the scores. And the lower score could be from other factors as well.
  10. I think it was just for the follow up test and I remember him having some article on a specific ingredient which can cause false readings in the PSA. I can't remember the details. I think he attributes the second lower reading to not taking them but I am still seeing him struggle with fatigue even after gluten-free diet has calmed most of the gut symptoms...
  11. I got my husband some B12 drops and he balked at the high percentages ( which i thought was a plus) and wondered if a B complex would have been better. So you suggest taking both because you need more B 12? would that be in addition to a Multi vitamin?
  12. My very health conscious hubby has had some recent health issues that lead to a full array of test that confirmed Celiac with a biopsy. I am suspecting alot of his recent old man issues have roots in this diagnosis because he has been nutritionally deprived. Could his broken bone be lack of calcium absorbed instead of the force of the fall? His doctor took...
