Maybe you have a peanut allergy? I just developed an allergy to peanuts.
-
I am getting one for sure. I have a severe food allergy and celiac disease.
-
I think I have missed a lot of the arguing...
-
Does anyone know if there are any other gluten-free hot sauces?
-
Welcome
Your tests should be done by now. My previous doctors medical secretary gave me my results over the phone, but I know that this is not normal. If you know the lab that did the testing, you could call and ask them.
I am assuming that they did a Tissue Transglutamase (tTg) blood test, which is highly specific for celiac disease. You can get false negatives with this test if you were on a gluten-free diet and if you are IGA deficient.

I use Vaseline Lotions with no problems. Right now I am using Vaseline Aloe and Naturals Lotion.
-
I'm glad that your son does not have celiac disease
Gluten intolerance is still a possibility though.
I recommend being very careful with his severe wheat allergy though, and you may want to ask his doctor about carrying an epipen if his reactions are really bad.

ThanksHi Carrie,I also have reacted to "gluten-free" things, and have never had an issue with Frank's Hot Sauce. I've only had the original and Chile/Lime varieties.
Do you know if they are a ConAgra product?
-
Hopefully the Twinjects will get cheaper with time. I think that they are a great idea! I got a practice one with no needles from my allergist and they are fairly easy to use.I'm in Alberta too and was just recently told to switch over from Epipens to Twinjects because of the reassurance that you have 2 dosages, especially good for travellers. However, they are currently quite a bit more expensive (I don't remember what mine was, insurance paid, but it was about what you paid $140 I believe), anyway it is cheaper than having two Epipens. I expect as they become more prominent (they are a new product) the price will slowly come down, they certainly did with Epipens. -
Has anyone had any reactions from Frank's Hot Sauces? Their website says which products are gluten-free:
Q: Are FRANK'S® RedHot® sauce products gluten free?
A: Yes, FRANK'S® RedHot® Original, XTRA Hot, Buffalo Wing Sauce and Chile 'n Lime™ are gluten free.
However, I have reacted to products that are gluten-free in the past because of cross contamination.

Thanks for the info

I'm also between 5'6" and 5'7"

Michelle,
Mine is called a Twinject and there are two doses. I'm assuming that's why it is so expensive! There is one auto injector and one manual needle. They have two in case the first dose wears off before you can get medical attention.
A medic alert bracelet is always a good idea for someone with severe allergies. The bracelet would definately help him away from home. I am thinking of getting one myself now that I have this allergy.

I am originally from Prince Edward Island, but I am now living in Alberta.Hi, I am from Nova Scotia. Any more maritimers out there??????????? -
Good luck! Was your interview last Tuesday or this coming Tuesday?

Sorry you had a bad experience. There seems to be a lot of restaurants that accomodate the gluten-free diet in Calgary. I have only eaten at Splitt though. I like the food there.
-
Thanks shai76
That is a lot cheaper! Mine is a Twin EpiPen, maybe that is why it is so expensive? That price for the Epipen was very high. I bought my sons at the Walmart pharmacy (in Alberta) for around $95-99. Fortunately, for us, the price is covered by insurance. I recommend shopping around for a better price the next time you have to buy one (the shelf life isn't very long unfortunately.) -
Wow
Good for you! Are you glad that you did your PhD?
-
I'm sorry
I haven't eaten there. I have been avoiding restaurants lately, but I'be been considering going back to Splitt.

Another Jambalaya Recipe
2-3 boneless chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces
1.5-2 cups of uncooked basmatti rice
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
2 teaspoons oregano (or more)
2 teaspoons thyme (or more)
1/2 -1 teaspoon cayeene pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried red peppers (or more)
1 1/2 teapoons red chili (I use McCormick, but fresh red chili would be ok too)
1 McCormick brouillion cube (your choice in flavour)
1/2-3/4 cup of Heinz ketchup
1-2 cups of water
Optional: Parsley and basil
Cook chicken, water, broullion, peppers, and all spices in a wok or large pot. Cook rice separatley, sometimes I add a bit of cumin to the rice. Once everthing is done, mix together and add ketchup. Cook for a few minutes and then serve.
*You can add more or less spice according to your taste.

Maybe your daughter could talk to the cooks and explain everything. Maybe they could prepare something safe for her? Or maybe she could ask to see how the food is prepared and see if there are any cross contamination risks in the kitchen.

PEI is beautiful, with probably some of the nicest beaches in North America. Are you talking about Anne of Green Gables?I heard the Prince Edward Island is beautiful, one of my long time favorite movies takes place there lol
