Low IgA, dr won’t test IgG
ravenwoodglass replied to Runningyogi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please wait to go gluten free as if you go gluten free now the doctor won't be able to test you for celiac. If your son is 'allergic' to wheat, rye and barley it sounds like he may be celiac. Your being diagnosed could help him as well as yourself. -
Pain and menstrual problems after consuming gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to Tal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. First off set your mind at ease. Your slip up did not do you any permanent damage. Any illness or bad stressor can affect our periods. If there is any possibility you may be pregnant do get tested if it doesn't start soon. It can take some time for our bodies to heal from a good glutening. If you ate tht whole bun you got a big dose...- 2 replies

You would want to retest to see if your antibodies are coming down so you know that you are following the diet correctly and are healing. It can take time for the antibodies to resolve so it is best to wait 6 months before retesting. If your original test was very high they might not be into the negative but should be greatly reduced.

Welcome to the board. As was stated Kraft is a company that you can trust. How long have you been gluten free? It could be hard on a healing tummy. How was the steak cooked? Did you have it at a restaurant? If so you may have been CC'd, that could also be the case if you grilled it on a grill on which a gluten food was cooked. What did you have with the...

One of my first symptoms when I get glutened is an overwhelming depression. Thankfully it lifts pretty quick as long as I am not being reglutened. Are you gluten free and may have gotten glutened? How long have you been gluten free? Do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section to make sure that you are doing all you need to do to...

I'm sick, tired, and confused
ravenwoodglass replied to Vonney's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, at least in my case. For many years my symptoms would come and go before they became a daily and nightly misery. Just a quick off topic on your junior. Many go into college without a clear idea of what they want their life's work to be. Even those who are convinced they want to follow one route will often change paths once they get into college... -
Sick and fed up
ravenwoodglass replied to elliespal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you are suffering and having to endure such a long wait. You could try and see if you can get on your GI doctors cancellation list if you can get in on short notice. that way if someone cancels sooner they might be able to get you in. Another alternative is to talk to your GP and see if they will give you a formal diagnosis if you go gluten free now... -
Positive blood trumps negative biopsy. Go ahead and do the diet strictly. The elimination diet may be helpful in picking up any other intolerances you may have but be aware that some of those may resolve in time as you heal. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Sorry I didn't realize you were an expert on the subject of celiac and DH. With new posters we have no way of knowing how long they were diagnosed or how compliant they are with the diet. Folks with DH tend to be very sensitive to even the tiniest amount of gluten. It can take time for the antibodies to leave the skin. In my case it was 5 years before a bit...

Welcome to the board. I second the Thai Kitchen reccomedation. I use their products all the time. Their rice noodles are my go to noodles, especially the 'angel hair' variety. Celiac is not unknown in East Asian populations (it may at times be related to a rarer gene than what is most common in the caucasian population though so don't rely on just gene testing...

Drugs
ravenwoodglass replied to rrmac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't use any med that I have not checked, had a pharmacist check or that doesn't carry the gluten free label (OTC). Formulations change and that type of Advil may now be gluten free if it wasn't before. I would just use an alternative that was labeled gluten-free or call the company. -
This is a very powerful drug that supresses the immune system. It is not a cure and if you choose to do so it is likely that you will need repeat infusions. You say the gluten free diet didn't work for you. Did you drop iodine foods when you went gluten free? How gluten free were you? Folks with DH have to be very strict especially at first to avoid...

You haven't even been 6 months gluten free. The fact that your IGA is in the normal range shows that you are doing pretty good on the diet. It can take time for antibody levels to get back to normal levels and your IGG is half what it was at diagnosis. Do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section just to be sure you are not missing...

Hi there!
ravenwoodglass replied to Fiddles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Be sure to read the newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section as it will have a lot of good info for you. Try to go with mostly whole foods to start as it will aid in healing. You may even find being gluten free helps with your control of your diabetes. We have a few members here who have both so be sure to post any questions... -
I'm sick, tired, and confused
ravenwoodglass replied to Vonney's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I meant the doctor should have done an endoscopy not that she should be referred to an Endocrinologist. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough. OP Yes do let us know how things go with the endoscopy. You can start the diet the day it is done you don't have to wait for the results since they have already done blood tests. You may find you have some relief... -
I'm sick, tired, and confused
ravenwoodglass replied to Vonney's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. You only need one test to be positive to have celiac. In fact you can be negative on all blood tests and still have celiac! Your doctor seems to be unaware of this and should have had you get an endo after they had that positive test. Do be sure to keep eating a regular gluten diet until after your endo. Also make sure they are taking... -
Confused and scared :( Help
ravenwoodglass replied to kdixon's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. C-lady has given you some good info. Do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section as it has a lot of good info to help keep you safe. As far as those little red dots go I have them and tend to get more when I get glutened. I don't know for sure but I think they are associated with the inflammation that comes for me... -
Painful Bowl Movements
ravenwoodglass replied to med5224's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Were you diagnosed by your doctor? If so you may want to contact the doctor to make sure nothing else is going on. Many doctors don't tell us all we need to be aware of when we are diagnosed. Keeping safe involves more than just the food we are eating. If you haven't already please read the 'Newbie 101' thread at the top of the Coping... -
Test results
ravenwoodglass replied to Tko2341's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That means you healed. That's good. Did you ask the doctor to clarify what they meant? My GI said the same thing to me but then told me I was doing a good job on the diet. I still have Celiac as a diagnosis on my record. If you had testing and blood work was positive check your records and make sure that celiac is noted and ask your GP why not if it isn... -
The 'crash' you describe sounds just like my reaction to an accidental glutening. It is possible when you have trialed the diet that you were not aware of all the precautions we have to take. Reading the Newbie 101 thread will be quite helpful for you when you do get firmly gluten free. Be aware that there can be false negatives with endos so don't decide...

So sorry you are going through all this. It took over 40 years for me to finally be diagnosed. By that time I was close to death. We have similiar histories except for me the skin form of celiac, DH, was one of the first symptoms to show up along with neuro related issues. The last 15 years before diagnosis were the worst with daily and nightly D, lesions...

Antibodies still super high?
ravenwoodglass replied to SahiraHyena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That could have been the first manifestation of celiac. I have seen Psychiatrists off and on since age 11 and for a long time thought my life was going to be a neverending rollercoaster of emotions. I still have PTSD although that is not associated with the celiac. I am off the rollercoaster though and am on much more level mental footing and have been... -
Antibodies still super high?
ravenwoodglass replied to SahiraHyena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That could very well change once you have been gluten free for a bit. Celiac can have serious impact on mood and thought functions and after the antibodies resolve you may find more improvement than you ever thought possible. I had one child who came to me one day after being gluten free for a few months and told me 'I feel happy. I never felt happy before... -
You could have another intolerance. Soy and dairy are the most common. You may want to eliminate those and if that gives relief add them back in one at a time and see if the issues come back. Some can find a symptom and food log to be helpful in pinpointing what may be the problem. I hope you feel better soon.

Syncope, Convulsions. I'm not Crazy.
ravenwoodglass replied to jetplanelovers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gluten can cause neurological issues. You said you went back on gluten in Jan and were tested in Feb. if you mean blood tested your doctor did the test too soon. If your symptoms are mostly neuro in presentation you might not have significant damage in your intestines. Your body is clearly telling you that it needs to be gluten free. IMHO to do a full challenge...- 17 replies
