  1. It is also possible you got glutened at the resturant. Even if you previously have eaten there with no problems staff changes or can get lazy about changing gloves etc. That said there are some rarer celiacs that react to even distilled gluten grains. You could try getting a small bottle and making the drink at home where you know it is safe and have a small...
  2. Welcome to the board. Have you had any celiac testing done? If not you should do so. It sounds like you are living in a house with folks that still consume gluten. It can be hard to be gluten free under those circumstances but it can be done. do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the coping section and if you have been taking those precautions then...
  3. IMHO you are dealing with a glutening. Diverticulitis would leave you very ill and running a fever. Most with that end up in the ER or at their doctors office. You say you have eaten out a couple of times so chances are you were glutened. Hope you are feeling better by now but if not a trip to the GI may be in order.
  4. With kids this fussy can you get the parents to supply their meals? I know you have a very restricted diet so feeding picky kids may be really tough. The parents could bring you foods they will eat and are used to eating. Just have them sit at a table to eat and use parchment paper or tin foil on any pans that go in the oven. You should be safe as long you...
  5. You should talk to your doctor to be sure but diverticulitis can be very serious and can require hospitalization and antibiotics. Do you get any other reactions that you know for sure are gluten related? Some will get a headache, brain fog or mood issues that show up with a glutening that can help us tell the difference. Do you keep a food and symptom log...
  6. Thank you. I did figure out that I had to hit the forum button finally. I hit the home button yesterday and it did take me to the main article page whereas before it was just blank with the 'logo' on the top.
  7. Three days may not have beenlong enough to see a reaction. When I went through my doctor guided and prescribed elimination diet I had to add items back in for a week before I could consider them safe. He explained that it can take up to a week for an intolerance reaction to show up. Even after diagnosis it takes 3 or 4 days for the GI reaction to show up...
  8. When I read a thread and am done and hit home it is not sending me there it is sending me to a different page that is empty. Is this happening to others?
  9. Welcome to the board. You are responding to a thread that is about 7 years old. Your info is interesting and I have seen a recovery from most of what you talk about myself and it was not a quick recovery. The only thing is that we advise anyone who thinks they may have a gluten issue to get tested for celiac first before dropping gluten. If they don't...
  10. The microwave should be fine as long as it is cleaned out good with soap and water as will be any other cookware you have that doesn't have burned on gluten reside. Do replace your colander or strainers that have been used for pasta. Replace any teflon pans that are heavily scratched as well as plastic cutting boards. I did get new cookie sheets although...
  11. Welcome. Free free to ask any questions you need to ask. read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section and have him read it with you. That will give you a good start on what needs to be done to keep you safe. The gluten free lifestyle does impact a lot and there is a learning curve. I hope you heal quickly but be patient with your body. It...
  12. Has your doctor done any celiac testing? If so what were the results and if not you should get back on gluten and get the panel run. You should get full vitamin and mineral panels run. Sometimes pins and needles can be caused by low B12 which can happen with celiac. Have your doctor run a B12 level when he does the panel. If he has done one before have the...
  13. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac. Migraines and joint pain can also be symptoms of celiac. I haven't had a migraine since I went gluten free but my joint pain took a few months to resolve. I hope you get some relief soon.
  14. If you guys kissed before he brushed his teeth that would be a more likely source of CC.
  15. Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Busy weekend at work. Good to hear you will be able to get blood work done. As to kidney and liver issues they can be seen. Liver panels often go back to normal after the body heals. I am not sure about kidney issues but I do know I had a great deal of edema prediagnosis that went away gluten free. Don't know why though. With...
  16. Thanks for the update. The Qn Serum was to make sure that you were not IGA deficient. The Abs Iga was strongly positive and that with villious atrophy means you are definately celiac. At least now you know for sure that you need to be strictly gluten free. I hope you heal quickly.
  17. There are folks that are quite successful at living in a shared home. If the other little ones need to keep eating gluten it doesn't have to be a lot. Keeping some gluten bread or cereal around for them isn't going to be an issue as long as crumbs are keep under control. Just be sure that if you give the gluten eating kids something like cookies that your...
  18. Sorry this is happening to you. I know how scarey it is. Are you taking any medication? I had that happen once as a reaction from a medication. What helped me was eating pineapple (it has digestive enzymes) and probiotics. Don't know if that might help. I am assuming you have had a celiac diagnosis. If not you should get tested. That would mean going back...
  19. If your tummy woke you up and you are not normally up at that hour be sure to let your doctor know. That is a symptom of celiac. IBS does not wake someone from sleep according to my GI doctor.
  20. Before you give the diet a good strict try you should get another full celiac panel done. Just because it was negative 5 years ago doesn't mean it will be now. That said after all celiac related testing is done a strict trial may be a good idea.
  21. You don't need to replace all your pots and pans. You would want to replace any that are scratched like enamel or teflon but pans that can be washed clean can be kept as can plates and silverware. You do want a new cutting board and a new strainer for stuff like pasta.
  22. Doctors check for the two most common genes but there are others. We stilll have a lot to learn about all the genes associated with celiac and more than those two have been identified. So no the gene test can not absolutely rule it out if you don't have DQ2 or DQ8. I am an example of that as a firmly diagnosed celiac I carry a double copy of DQ9 which has...
  23. You want to be eating mostly unprocessed foods right now so shop the outside of the market. Meats, fish, produce and fruit etc. Do minimal stuff like gluten-free breads and sweets etc. You want to avoid oats until you are well healed. Some celiacs don't tolerate even the certified gluten-free kinds. Also limit dairy a bit. You may not be digesting lactose...
  24. Personally I sould look for one that doesn't have that warning. You may also want to look into Hemp protein. Whey is a dairy product and being newly diagnosed you may not tolerate dairy well.
  25. Sorry you are suffering so much. Have you been back to see your doctor? Maybe there is something going on that isn't food related. You should at least have a panel run to make absolutely sure that gluten isn't slipping in somewhere. I hope you get some relief soon.
