  1. After losing my Maggie almost two years ago I have now adopted a rescue pup with a very sad history. Her isolation and previous owners beatings have left her in dire need of training. After bonding with me she is quite overprotective. My search for gluten free treats for training has been a washout. I do give her a food with rice but no gluten grains. I will...
  2. "Treating all nutrient deficiencies and fully healing your gut will not allow those with celiac disease to eat gluten again." Gosh I wish that taking vitamins would 'cure' my celiac. Alas in the 20 years since I was diagnosed that has not been the case. Even the tiny amount that I might encounter in my volunteer work at a food panty ( shelving bread...
  3. Since you can pack your own food don't let this spoil your trip. You should be able to get milk so perhaps bring some filling granola, fruit, nuts or a nut butter and bread etc. Perhaps some of your favorite treats. While disappointing at least you won't have to worry about having your trip ruined by CC. Go and enjoy yourself.
  4. Welcome to the board. Hopefully you will be feeling a lot better by that appointment. It can take some time to heal though so don't get discouraged if you make some mistakes with the gluten free life at first. If you go to the top of the Coping Section there is 'Newbie" post that has a lot of good info. You may feel a bit better once the infusions are over...
  5. Limited time so my reply will need to be brief. The company will send all you need to do the test at home and you will have a return package included for the testing to be done by them. As you can see in my signature I am a double DQ9 and am a confirmed celiac who was very ill prediagnosis. We still have much to learn about the genetics for celiac or...
  6. When your doctor did the endo did he say he was checking for celiac? If not then likely no biopsies were done. It is still quite possible you have celiac despite the negative blood test. My showing up negative on that blood test delayed my diagnosis by many painfilled years and left me with some permanent disability. You have a choice as trents said. You...
  7. You should take a look at the Newbie 101 thread at the top if the Coping Section that has a lot of good info. Have you dropped dairy? That can be an issue for some of us. It may just be that using your old toaster was enough to keep the antibodies going but it isn't uncommon for us to have other intolerances until we heal. I was able to add back dairy after...
  8. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/type-1-diabetes/expert-answers/lada-diabetes/faq-20057880 It stands for Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults .
  9. Here is a link to the Newbie 101 thread. You may find it helpful.
  10. When I refer to the line I mean the area where the cooks and helpers work. The cart idea was to keep things like salads and gluten-free breads etc. seperate to prevent CC. You can't prepare things like a sandwich on the same surface as you would wheat based bread. This would also prevent a waitress (or whoever makes your salads} from using the same utensils...
  11. Rather than trying to clean the grill (impossible to do while serving) use a clean saute pan and/or a pan that will produce grill marks. A small cart can be utilized to hold stuff like salad mixes, gluten-free breads, tools etc rather than trying to use the line. If you serve pasta do have a seperate pot of boiling water for gluten-free pasta. You also can...
  12. Is it possible for you to see an allergist who will deal with food intolerances or a nutritionist? They could help you get a good starting point for an elimination diet that will fulfill your nutritional and provide enough calories. This already may have been mentioned but do you know what your B12 level is? The old standard was 200 or so but now they...
  13. Thanks for your reply and I will keep your advice in mind if it continues. I haven't had an episode since I posted, thankfully. It may have been stress related with all that is going on in my life and the world today.
  14. I agree that the OP might want to see if prednisone might work just as well. In addition I found that this drug is also prescribed for Chrons and UC so apparently it is used for any instances where they want to 'calm' down someones system. It does have the same warnings as prednisone. OP- I saw you asked about help with the cost of this med. Find out...
  15. Thank you for the link. It does ease my mind considerably. I will, of course contact my doctor if this continues.
  16. I don't think this could be related to celiac so this may not be in the right place. Forgive me if that is the case. For the last few days I have woken out of a sound sleep with my heart pounding. I have PTSD and the only thing I can compare it to is a panic attack related to that however I don't awake from a nightmare or if I have had one I don't remember...
  17. Not all folks with celiac will have pernicious anemia. Celiac damages the small intestine preventing absorption even with normal intrinsic factor. Sublingual B12 can be helpful for us because it bypasses the damaged gut by being absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth. The tablets are held under the tongue or between cheek and gums. It is a good idea...
  18. Likely one or the other or both of these drugs were not gluten free.
  19. As long as you haven't already gone gluten free whether you eat gluten that morning doesn't matter. The blood test isn't looking for 'gluten' in your blood. The test is looking for the antibodies that will be found if you are celiac. If you are having other blood work done at the time of the celiac panel just do as your doctor instructs. If you have already...
  20. You have gotten some great info on supplements. Do be sure if your doctor tests your levels that you stop the supplements a couple weeks before to get an accurate level. Your B12 levels should be at least 500. The level changed a few years ago but many doctors still go by the 250 as the low. Sublingual B12 is best as it bypasses the damaged gut by being...
  21. Welcome to the board. The severity of symptoms can vary in us with a gluten challenge. So far things don't sound too very intolerable. Should they become severe do keep your doctor advised as to what is going on. This vital if you are on meds as severe diarrhea can impact the absorbtion of your meds. It might be a good idea to take a Stress vitamin....
  22. It sounds like you are doing better with the low fodmap which is a good thing. As far as the med is concerned it seems if you are female doctors will often push drugs like the one he is asking you to take. Has he referred you to any counseling? I don't know your stress levels at the moment but IMHO couseling and maybe a visit with a psychiatrist (if needed...
  23. Did the doctor biopsy intact skin beside the rash? If they biopsied the rash itself you may have a false negative. They also need to tell the lab that they are looking for DH antibodies as it requires special testing methods. I hope you get some relief soon.
  24. Sorry you are suffering to this expent. If you can try and find an allergist to guide you through the elimination diet. Do ask when making the appointment as not all will do so. The doctor will test you for true allergies and give you a starting point for the elimination. You will likely start out with just 5 foods and expect them to be items you don't normally...
  25. I would suggest using disposable plates and cutlery if possible (even though I detest them) to cut down on what has to be washed. If you can cook there get a box or tote to keep your small supply of pans and other stuff like can openers and a toaster out of reach of your roommates. If you have to share a fridge use a bag of some sort to put your own stuff...
