  1. Your circumstance is why I wish doctors wouldn't use gene tests for diagnosis. Your doctor should have done a celiac panel first or with the gene tests. I am very thankful I was diagnosed before they started gene testing as if they had tested mine I would have heard the same as you did. I would have died years ago instead of being diagnosed correctly and...
  2. I like either Canyon Bakehouse or Udi'd for already made white bread. Both do have multigrain varities also but I grew up in the pasty white bread era. Canyon Bakehouse also makes a good cinnamon raisen bread that I like for breakfast. I think most jellies and jams are gluten free but I use either Wegmans or Smuckers. Pamelas Baking mix makes pretty good...
  3. I usually get skin on breasts. Pull the skin up but not off so you have a little pocket. Then place a tablespoon or so of butter into the pocket. I rub the outside of the skin with a bit of olive oil and then sprinkle on sea salt. I will place it on foil and stick it in the oven. If I don't use a pan I crimp the corners of the foil to form a dish shape....
  4. Sounds like you're having a hard time right now. I hope you don't get too ill from that meal but if you do know it will pass. Maybe there are some recipes in that section that would be good to make ahead and freeze. Feel better soon and don't beat yourself up too much (HUGS)
  5. Those are not an issue from a gluten perspective but that doesn't mean that you are not reacting to them. You may want to eliminate them for at least a couple months and then add items with those ingredients and see if they are still bothering you. Many of us also need to eliminate dairy for a bit, soy can also be an issue. To make things even more confusing...
  6. If he does he will have you to help him through. Many with the gene never develop celiac however you should have him tested for antibodies even if he doesn't show GI symptoms. Celiac can impact mood and learning, for example, before the GI stuff seems more than an occasional annoyance.
  7. Going gluten free will not have any negative impact on her health. It would be a good idea for her to get tested for celiac first though. If someone reacts to gluten after being gluten free that means they were either celiac or sensitive. Flour use in the house if a concern. Personally I would not allow it in a house with celiac children or adults. ...
  8. Kraft is good at labeling allergens and thought I would give you their statement which has a number you can note if you feel you want to contact them. https://www.myfoodandfamily.com/faq/how-do-i-obtain-allergen-information-about-your-products?id=7b4702fd-12b6-4caa-9b40-089fca155f24 “Please note our products are produced and labeled in compliance w...
  9. You have strongly positive blood work and abnormal results on your endo. IMHO it should be fine to go gluten free as all your testing is done. You may find you get some relief of your symptoms before you even go back to see the doctor. Starting the gluten free lifestyle can be a bit daunting at first and there are many knowledgeable folks here to help you...
  10. It is one of my favorites. I found it at a time when I was learning how to walk normally...again and it was a good to think about on days when things hadn't gone well.
  11. I noticed the same on some cookies that looked really good. I always read labels because I also have to avoid soy. They were one of my favorite companies and I hate to have to give up their baking mix but can't take a risk. Gosh I wish companies wouldn't sell their names and formulas. The quality and safety always seems to go down.
  12. Has she seen a doctor while in the midst of one of the episodes? If not it might be helpful if a doctor fits her in when the symptoms are the worst. Have they done an electromylogram on her during one of these times? It might be a good idea to do in addition to the MRI. A good neurologist would be the one to do both testing. The electromylogram sounds scarey...
  13. You can and should take a B Complex but you should add a sublingual B12. Those dissolve under the tongue and are absorbed there bypassing the damaged gut. Don't be disturbed by the levels in the tablet as your body will excrete what it doesn't need.
  14. Jackie, If it is the consumation of histamine that is the reason for celiac how do you explain the development of Celiac in infants like my son who was breastfed? I deveolped celiac at about age 4. This was back in the 50's before all this processed food became available. My mother cooked whole foods always. People that have been newly diagnosed don't (IMHO...
  15. If you do have DH you do have celiac. Celiac is an autoimmune disorder not strictly a GI one. In some the antibodies attack the skin and even the nervous system long before GI symptoms show up as more than a 'normal' annoyance. (Jumping up and down waving vigorously as I was one of those people) It can take a very long time for the antibodies to leave the...
  16. Celiac is an autoimmune disease. It is not a histamine disorder. May some celiacs have issues with histamine, of course. Do all, no. Many celiacs are able to digest dairy once their villi heal, some can't. But a Celiac can NEVER go back to eating gluten. Once fully healed a reaction may be a bit delayed or milder as it can take some time for the antibodies...
  17. I volunteer at a food pantry as well as getting food stamps. They should have stuff you can eat. They may not get much in the way of gluten free baked goods but they should have stuff like canned veggies and fruits. We get Ball Park franks and bologna which are both labeled gluten-free as well as some cut up and whole chickens and pork chops. Canned Dinty...
  18. Has she had a celiac panel and testing for B12 levels? Her B12 levels should be over 500 and she shouldn't be supplementing for a couple weeks before the levels are tested. I have to run but if not do insist. If her bloods come back positive on the celiac panel some doctors will give an 'official' diagnosis based on the levels coming down and relief of symptoms...
  19. Good Morning, Not much time so I need to be brief. If the doctors are thinking MS do insist on having them do a spinal tap. There will be debris from the demylination if she actually has MS. Celiac can cause what are referred to as 'UBOs' or unidentified bright objects that are very similiar to the lesions caused by MS but without the demylination....
  20. Your gut damage may have been patchy and been missed. That happens. You have a good GI and if I were you I would heed their advice. Celiac antibodies can be sneaky. They can attack the brain and nervous system causing mood and movement issues and can impact learning. The antibodies can attack pretty much any organ. Glad to hear you are back on the diet.
  21. I switched to 'American Spirit' tobacco products after diagnosis. They are just tobacco with no additives. In my case I quickly realized that I could just take a couple puffs and then put it out and go quite a while not wanting another cig. Most others with the assortment of 200 or so chemical additives left me wanting another as soon as I put one out. As...
  22. It can take some time for the antibodies to build up enough to cause symptoms or a positive blood test. If you had a positive blood test and saw a remission of symptoms gluten free I would advise you to get back on the diet. Interesingly in the last century celiac was thought of as just a childrens disease that could be outgrown. We now know that is...
  23. Sorry you are having such a hard time. Did they do a spinal tap to confirm that the lesions they found were MS? They thought I had MS also but a spinal tap was negative and it turned out to be impact from gluten that was causing symptoms and the brain lesions they found. While the spinal tap is not a fun procedure you may want to have it done. If the tap...
  24. I will have to be brief as I need to head out the door. I am so sorry for what you are continueing to go through. Have you considered contacting a lawyer who specializes in disability and Social Security? If not you may want to do so. Most do not charge anything for the first consultation and you may qualify for temporary disability that will enable you to...
  25. It was an allergist who was responsible for me finally being diagnosed. I had skin prick testing for 99 items and the only thing I didn't react to was beech trees. This prompted him to have me do a doctor guided elimination diet and that lead him to then refer me to a GI who confirmed celiac. After a few months on the diet my only true allergies turned out...
