  1. I had svere DH and that was the case for me. She may want to restrict iodine in her diet also until her skin is well healed. She should also avoid gluten in her topical products like shampoos and lotion etc.
  2. Sounds like a plan. Ask any more questions you need to ask and do read as much as you can here. I don't get the chance to visit often any more but we have many great helpful members that will be willing to help support the changes you may need to make.
  3. Sounds like you have a decision to make. If you would need a doctor's diagnosis to stay compliant with the diet or to have family members take you seriously or that you feel need to be tested then you may want to do a challenge and have the doctor run a full panel. If you can stay strictly gluten free without a formal diagnosis then you could simply choose...
  4. The testing that was done while you were still on gluten shows two positive tests. Has your doctor seen those results? Going gluten free could very well have caused a false negative on your most recent tests. Did you achive some resolution of symptoms during the time you were gluten free? You may want to go back on gluten for a couple months and have your...
  5. Thank you so much! I will be trying this recipe tomorrow. It sounds so good. I will let you know how it turns out.
  6. Forgot to mention that with slow bone healing do ask your doctor to do a bone scan to check for osteopenia or osteoporisis. Bone loss can be found in celiacs and may resolve on its own with supplementation and weight bearing excercise for us.
  7. Welcome to the board. Your results are quite high. If the idea of staying on gluten for a biopsy is not something you want to do you could go strictly gluten free and then have your doctor recheck your antibodies after a few months. Be aware that damage can be patchy so you would need a good strict trial of the diet even if the biopsy comes back negative...
  8. This sounds like a great recipe but it is very confusing. Are you creaming the butter with the milk or adding the milk to the butter after the butter is creamed? At what point do you add dry ingredients? Do you mix the dry ingredients first and add the butter after it is creamed and then the milk? I am not much of a baker so I do need clarification if possible...
  9. Welcome to the board. My celiac symptoms began in childhood after being impaled and having to rescue myself. Gut symptoms were considered normal (yea right) but I had severe DH and neuro symptoms that included balance issues and brain fog. Since a very short time after diagnosis the only time I am hit with depression is if I am glutened. The depression...
  10. It sounds like you are done with testing so IMHO it is not going to hurt to go ahead and start the diet. The treatment for Celiac and NCGS is the same and both need a person to be just as strict with the diet. Just make sure you are being strict with the diet and keep in mind that some symptoms may resolve quickly others may take some time. Sometimes the...
  11. Do ask your doctor to test you. your symptoms do sound like you could be celiac. it is VERY important that you no go gluten free or gluten light before celiac testing is completed. I hope you get some answers and are feeling better soon.
  12. While you are waiting on the Oreo's Kinnickinick makes chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies that are pretty good. If the Oreo's have oat I will have to stick with those. I din't remember if they have dairy because I don't need to avoid dairy any longer.
  13. Boy we sure are a lot alike. It may get better for you in time and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I still have trouble with typing. It takes me forever since my brain has a lag time on my left side. Leads to lots of reversed letters so posts take awhile due to lots of proof reading. My speech improved a great deal but, like with you, if I am anxious...
  14. Celiac can definately impact the ability to learn and to retain what one has learned. That's why I feel so strongly that children should be tested on a routine basis even without GI issues. That can be resolved for most if they are diagnosed soon enough. In folks who were diagnosed after years of brain impact total resultion isn't always possible but many...
  15. That's what I use. Never had a problem with any from that brand.
  16. I agree but we can live well, healthy and long with it once we know that our bodies treat gluten as poison. You can't say that with so many other diseases.
  17. If you can you could try to find a good physical therapist who can help with the balance issues. Mine had this weird machine that seemed like surfing. When I could 'ride' it without hanging on for a few minutes we were able to stop sessions. I still have to do the one step at a time down but go up okay and, like you, I no longer walk like I drink all the...
  18. The dietary advice given to your sister will apply for you also. If she was given any phamplets or other hard copy info maybe she could share them with you? With this pandemic going on many are struggling. If you only ate crackers because you are low on food do be sure to visit a food bank if you have one near you. If you tell them you are diabetic they may...
  19. i agree with both Scott and Trents. Do make sure that you are using your arm even if it is uncomfortable and ask your doctor if warm compresses might help with any stiffness.
  20. Welcome to the board. Not much time but thought i should respond. While most people with celiac do have either DQ2 or DQ8 there are the rare cases, like my own, that folks have a different gene. I am a double DQ9 and am a firmly diagnosed celiac. My reactions are severe in part I think because i had celiac from a young age and wasn't diagnosed till I was...
  21. I don't know for sure if it would help but you could try some sublingual B12. It can aid in healing nerves if your glutenings impacted the levels.
  22. It might be a good idea to contact your doctor. I doubt they will immediately want to scope. Blood testing and stool testing would be a good first step. in addition is there anything new as far as meds, toiletries, a new gluten eating significant other or gluten eating pet that could be CCing you?
  23. Personally if they make them in their bakery I wouldn't touch them as I would fear CC to be a big issue.
  24. the gluten in corn is a different form than in wheat, rye and barley. it is fine for those with celiac as long as it isn't cross contaminated. Of course there are some folks who won't tolerate it but it isn't something that a celiac needs to avoid.
  25. One last thing if you live in an area with a Wegmans market they mark all their gluten free items with a circle G which makes shopping easier.
