  1. You could make yourself something yummy and bring it in a covered microwave container. That way you won't feel deprived and the other folks won't feel guilty for eating in front of you. I hope you go and have a great time.
  2. IMHO since the gluten reaction begins when gluten contacts the mucous membranes in the mouth I don't think having worms in the intestines would really be of any use. In addition we already are at risk of malnutrition and having little 'critters' consuming in our guts would increase that risk.
  3. Simple answer is no. Avoiding gluten will not bring on celiac or gluten sensitivity. If your non-celiac family members are experiencing symptoms after eating gluten only on occasion they need to be tested for celiac. That of course would require them to consume gluten daily before testing. Think of it this way, many only eat turkey (for example) on holidays...
  4. Run, don't walk to a new dermatologist. If he has DH he has celiac. He does need to be gluten free, strictly, to prevent the antibodies from attacking other organs. Did this doctor do liver function tests on a regular basis while he has been on Dapsone? Dapsone is a drug that can have some serious side effects and regular testing needs to be done if he chooses...
  5. I don't think anyone is thinking you had a false positive just that the stool testing is not recognized as a reliable form of testing for diagnosis. Have you ever had a celiac blood panel done? If you had high stool antibodies maybe a blood test might show positive also? It sounds like you are getting a lot of relief from the diet and only you can decide...
  6. Sounds like a good plan if you can't do a challenge to get a formal diagnosis. I didn't realize that the test you were referring to was a stool and not a blood test. I did find some interesting research on stool testing to check for dietary compliance. I am including a link https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5059698/ The page also...
  7. I believe the reason they use the 80% figure is because not all Celiacs produce that antibody. Some will show negative with the IGA but positive with the IGG. It is not found with folks that are not celiac. The numbers will go down after you have been following the gluten free lifestyle for a while. Reduction in symptoms gluten free and a decrease in antibodies...
  8. What has happened with your symptoms since you went gluten free? What has happened if you accidentally get gluten? Did they run any other blood tests?
  9. Yes it is possible to have a normal endo and biopsy after being gluten free. You don't need to put yourself through a challenge and rebiopsy. The fact that you have healed your intestine and your antibodies have gone down show that you are doing a good job of being gluten free.
  10. The best way to check on gluten statis of meds is with your pharmacist. They need to note on your records that you are celiac. Double check when you pick up the script that they checked. Antibiotics can cause D so if you tolerate when you start taking the script if you can eat yogurt eat some daily as it may prevent antibiotic related D.
  11. They sure could be celiac. I had very similiar symptoms. Keep eating a regular gluten diet until your endo is done. It would be a good idea to call and request a lab slip for a celiac panel if one hasn't already been done. I hope you get clear answers and are feeling better soon.
  12. Welcome to the board. No the test your Naturopath did is not junk. Get a second opinion. You may want to get a copy of the positive test that was done and bring it to the appointment. If possible do not tell the second doctor it was ordered by a Naturopath. You should request a full celiac panel along with vitamin and mineral testing. I am assuming that your...
  13. Have you had either tested for celiac? If not that should be done. If the only gluten free changes you have done is to switch to a different bread they likely are not gluten free but it would be best to go back to a gluten bread for 2 to 3 months before blood testing.
  14. Could she still be getting gluten somewhere? Don't know her age but some arts and crafts supplies can contain gluten. Does she try to eat foods the school serves? Even if some stuff seems like it could be safe CC risk is likely. If older does she have a significant other? If so their eating gluten before a kiss can also CC her. If she was newly diagnosed...
  15. If you had clearly positive blood work then talk to your doctor. Some doctors will give an official diagnosis based on symptom relief and decrease in antibodies.
  16. I just tried it and it seemed to work for me too. Can't wait to see what they send. I love goodies in the mail. Thanks for posting.
  17. Unfortunately this promotion ended in August. ☹️
  18. Try contacting the doctor you mention. If he is still doing research he might treat you for free if you join the study. Are you newly diagnosed and still having symptoms? It can take some time to heal and there are many here who can help with that change in lifestyle.
  19. The person referred to in the article had C Diff. and Refactory Celiac. This procedure has had some success with folks that have C Diff and I have to wonder if the infection was what was keeping the patient from healing on the diet. Refactory Celiac is pretty rare from my understanding. It used to be thought that children would outgrow celiac because...
  20. It's not in your head. I am so sorry your doctors have let you down so badly. You're not alone in that so don't lose heart. ((((((((HUGS)))))))) The GI who finally diagnosed me asked what was the best part about being gluten free at a follow up. I told him 'not being woken up by gut wrenching pain and 2 to 3 hours of D every night'. He asked why I didn...
  21. So sorry this happened to you. Versed doesn't work for me either. Sounds like your doctor doesn't listen very well. I ended up changing doctors and having my endo done by a doctor who really listens to his patient. You may want to call your insurance company and tell them what happened cause I can assure you the doctors office will try to charge you anyway...
  22. The young man ate white bread. Isn't that fortified with B vitamins? If it was one vitamin (doubtful) that he lacked that caused the blindness wouldn't vit A be the more likely one? Posterboy- did you mean he had a lipoma that was removed? Or did you mean they did a biopsy of a lymph gland? If lipoma rest easy because they are usually made of fatty tissue...
  23. Welcome to the board. What are you typically eating? It is advised that you start out with as much whole unprocessed foods as possible to avoid cross contamination (CC). It also isn't just what we eat but how it is prepared that can be a bit to get used to. If you haven't already there is a 'Newbie' topic at the top of the Coping section that will give you...
  24. It can take some time for the antibodies to build up and cause a reaction. Some folks react within a few hours and for others it can take longer. When I did my challenge it was 3 days before I reacted but when I did it was a severe reaction. I think your plan to retest is a good one just make sure you challenge for long enough. 12 weeks is advised for the...
