My little guy is 2 1/2.....we've been working alittle...not pushing hard. He sits on the potty every few hours while at daycare and if it's warm he runs around the house naked and gets on the potty occassionally. The only problem is...as soon as he gets off, he goes into the living room and pees on the floor. As I said we aren't hitting this too hard. He does occasionally pee on teh toilet.
If anyone has any tricks or tips...that would be great....i'm going throught carpet cleaner like mad!
Hi there,
I have a three year old and we are now officially potty-trained. I have an older son as well, and he too was into 3 and then was potty-trained. I do think it takes a little more time with boys. Don't push it is great advice and keep it very positive. My son was really motivated by a cool sticker chart taped to the bathroom door AND potty stickers on the backseat of the little potty. If you can find a motivator for when he does well, that may help. Oh, and have him gsit on the potty every hour and after he drinks is a way to catch him before he has an accident or goes in the pull-up. We also went and bought new big-boy underwear for him to have with cute characters and made a HUGE deal of it.

I am going to Stonefire Pizza tomorrow with my family and another family. Has anyone tried it? Besides the salad bar, are there any gluten-free options? I am also lactose intolerant, so anything with cheese is out I did email the manager at the beginning of the week and heard nothing.
Thanks for any insight!

hello! im not really a cook, and now that i found out im a celiac im a bit worried!
am i going to start having to make a lot of things from scratch? and is food shopping going to cost a fortune now?
it all seems a little over whelming.
the only whole food store my husband i found (havent gone in yet) is pretty far, and i heard it costs a lot.
do i need a bread maker? and i heard its not a good idea to share the famliy toaster
help!
Hi there,
I'm pretty new to this too, so the toaster question is a great one!
I've not tried to make anything from scratch yet. I have found a substitue gluten-free bread from the grocery store natural food freezer section. Maybe you will have that as an option? The brand that is decent imo is Kinnicinnic foods. It is alot more expensive than regular bread, but I've found that I just don't eat it the way I ate my favorite brownberry bread! I think you will find as you adapt your diet that you will eat more healthy whole food options such as fruit, veggies, proteins, rice, etc. Food shopping is more expensive for me when I want to find substitute foods that are gluten-free instead of just eating foods as they have been grown. Ex., gluten-free choc chip cookie mix, versus having a piece of fruit. (Arrowhead mills btw is my fav!) So, I guess I have tried to have a new outlook on how I eat and find my treats for the times that I really need them! Best wishes and welcome to the boards.

I have been gluten-free since January. On occasion I have made "errors" and have paid for a week at a time ALL day in the bathroom. Now that I am sticking to gluten-free diligently....I have to go to the bathroom as soon as I swallow my first bite of food in the morning. Is this celiac related? I am not eating the same food, so it isnt that there is hidden gluten. I will eat a pear, ham, drink a protein shake. It is random.
I am a heavy celiac and since going gluten free have not lost any weight and hardly eat. Any advise would be WELCOME!!!!
Hi there,
I am like that in the morning, too, except I don't eat anything and my bowels wake me up! The cleaner I am with my diet the better. I eliminated dairy before gluten and that has really helped. I find it takes me 3-5 days to get somewhat normal after eating an offending food. I would really suggest trying the dairy free route for awhile to see if that could help. Best wishes!

Terri do you have more information on that diet? I heard something once before about it and it was interesting to me.
The diet is by Dr. Peter J D'Asamo and I believe there are two main books that you can pick up. I have the Cook Right for Your Type diet which gives some extensive meal plans.
There is also Live Right for your Type and Eat Right for your Type. I was turned onto the books by a nutritionist when I first was getting into the gluten issues a month and half ago. You do need to know your blood type before you can begin. The premise is that our blood is made up from our ancestors and what they ate is best for our blood type. It is researched based and very healthy. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, some protein depending upon your blood type.
As long as I can keep the gluten out, it works really well for me. I am having trouble with newbie mistakes, unfortunately. Best wishes with everything! Let me know if you have any other questions and I will help as best I can.

I'm wondering, since I will be going on a gluten free diet and overhauling the way I eat anyway, is there anything that people can recommend? I have never eaten healthy in my entire life. Junk food ruled, dinner was probably my only healthy meal in that I always had a meat, starch, veggie. I'd like to transform the entire way I eat to be healthier. I would love all different perspectives on this. Any "diets" or food plans that you would recommend and why. Thank you!
I've been following the eat right for your type diet. It seems to make alot of sense and the foods I enjoy the most are on the mostly beneficial list, which is helpful. The idea is that you eat the right type of foods for your blood type. Some foods are beneficial, some neutral, and some harmful and act as a poison in your blood. I have felt pretty healthy on this diet plan.
Good for you to take this as an opportunity and not look at it in the negative. I have tried to do that as well and it feels much more sane and uplifting that way.

Does anyone know a decent-tasting gluten-free bread that doesn't taste like sawdust and won't make me sick?
-
Thanks, that should get me started on my way. I think my hubbie picked up Soydream for me, but looks like Silk is a good one to try! Just to clarify, I've been glutened by both ricemilk AND soymilk this week, but read the label of the soymilk this morning and decided to find a different brand based on the malted barley in it. So yea, I know, read the labels. Hopefully I can stop the rookie mistakes soon!
-
Ok. I have some mixes for breads I will have to try them out. Because the ones already made you buy in the store just don't smell right.
I second that! I open the freezer at Good harvest Natural Foods store and the smell is like no other! Yuck!

So I am eating a bowl of cereal dry rightnow. Why you might ask? Because yesterday I learned that rice dream has barley in it. So I learned my lesson and looked at my box of soymilk this morning before pouring it in my cereal, and sure enough, malted barley. I'm frustrated! Thanks for the vent. Anyone have brands that they recommend of any kind of milk I can use in cereal and cooking? I am lactose intolerant as well.
Thank you!

I have had trouble with soda, too. Sounds like staying away from coke products is the thing to do? Does anyone know if there are products that are 100% gluten-free? I'm not a big soda drinker, but enjoy it when at a cookout.
Thanks,
Terri

From what i understand most commercial charcoal brikettes contain wheat. I understand that you need "natural" charcoal. It's still common but not the baisic "Kinsford" brand or anything.
Thanks. I'll check it out at the natural foods store. I'm sure they have a product. There are so many hidden sources!!!!!

Hey, thanks for the great list. I haven't changed my cosmetic products at all...should I? I thought it has to pass through the intestines in order to affect? Thanks for the advice.

Hi Jay,
I have been struggling with same issues. I was not diagnosed with celiac, but i am certain I have it. I went gluten-free a month before the test and probably skewed the results. I do know this, if I stay away from gluten, I feel better. I am extremely sensitive to it. I would really prefer a straight out diagnosis, but my body is telling me that it can't take the gluten. I need to listen to it. They also told me I just have IBS. I am going to continue on the gluten free path so I can feel better. Best wishes to you, I am right there with you. Confused and sad. It is so hard to go out with friends because you have to be so careful. The boards here have helped me alot and it feels very supportive!

. You have to watch some of them, because they have charcoal, which can contain gluten.
Help!! I didn't know that charcoal contained gluten. Can you still cook with it? Is there a brand I can buy? Please help, we are having people over for a cookout tonight!
Terri
PS I am learning so much. Thanks!

I also noticed on another thread that Rice Dream will be going gluten free in the near future so that's something to keep in mind.

Hi-
I was wondering if any of the Wisconsinites went to any of the support groups? And if so, how they were/what they were like? (I'm new at this). thx
Hi,
I just joined the Milwaukee "Sprue Crew" but haven't been to a meeting yet. I am totally new, too. In the newsletter it had info on a bread company that you could purchase bread from at discount prices and pick-up at the meeting. I just haven't had the time to go to a meeting. Anyone else?

Have you found a good restaurant in Milwaukee that you recommend?
There is a restaurant called Roots on the East side that I went to before I was gluten-free and I am going to in a few weeks for my anniversary. I will let you know how it goes! There is a place called Tess that I've not been to that I've read is great and has a gluten-free menu. I want to check it out sometime! Here is the website for Roots

I went to Disney three days after going gluten-free....it was the easiest place to do it!! There is a passporter's book for Disney for Special Needs that lists some good restaurants to try. I ate at the Garden Grill in Epcot and actually got to eat gluten-free rolls and a chocolate dessert! The other place that was totally accomodating was Liberty Tree Tavern. At both restaurants the chefs came out and spoke with me about what my needs were. It was great!

So this is a little late to respond....but thanks for the kind welcome. Musical kids are great and fun-totally love what I do.

Hi, Have any of the Wisconsites tried the Gluten-Free Trading Company? It is in Bay View on Chase and I think Oklahoma?? I just started a gluten-free diet and there were alot of products there that I haven't seen at Good Harvest. It was also helpful to see what natural products are gluten-free since I am so new to this. Open Original Shared Link

Hi,
I'm really a newbie....but I've learned alot from all of you thus far. My bloodwork has come back normal twice but I am certain that this is my issue since I feel great when I am Gluten-free Casein-free! Anyway, I am a high school band teacher. It is alot of fun. I have two boys ages 3 and 6. Can't wait for summer to work on getting healthy and try my hand at SAHM for the summer!

Hi Natalie,
I am currently going through the bloodwork for celiac and was interested when I came upon your post. My firstborn is six and I had a heck of a time producing milk for him as a baby. He was born at 7 lbs. 2 oz and at 6 weeks old he was 6 lbs. 3 oz and obviously hungry. One of my parent's friends was a lactation consultant and helped me through it. I took a a supplement (More Milk Plus) and combination fed with formula and breastmilk. I breastfed him until he was 9 months old and started biting me! My second was a breeze to produce for and was a bigger baby in general. That is an interesting connection. Hope you can find out your issues. It definitely seems a worthwhile connection.

Hi there,
I am new to the boards and do not have a confirmed diagnosis as of yet, I am still waiting for the bloodwork to come back. However, I feel better and my symptoms go away with time on a Gluten-free Casein-free diet, so I am going to stick to it regardless of the results. Anyway, I had Heinz tomato ketchup yesterday and feel awful today. Is there something in there that I can't have? It looked to be safe. Also, I made Alexia potato wedges and there was dextrose in there. Is that a problem? Thanks for any tips.

Stonefire Pizza
in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Posted
Stonefire Pizza is a chain restaurant that is like an upscale Chuck E Cheese. The have a buffet with as million varieties of pizza, (which I know I can't have !) a salad bar, a pasta bar (another no), soup, and an Asian bar. I was thinking that maybe some of the Asian entrees were gluten free.
I plan to eat salad today and bring my own dressing. boring but safe!
