  1. Yep, it takes some time for the gut to heal. I found cooking my fruits and making sure to peel stuff helped a great deal. I also found that for me lettuce is worthless and will rush any other salad stuff right out of me so now I make my salads with just the other veggies. You also may find that right now certain stuff just doesn't sit well. Drop it and try again in a month or two.

Thank you very much. I never really thought of taking off the peel off some of my fruits. I guess I will just need to monitor and watch my intake and slow it down. I don't want to completely stop as my food is very limited since I cannot do dairy as well.

Does anyone find that canned veggies/fruits are a viable option for a food source and it won't irritate the gut?

  2. Has anyone found that they have a harder time digesting/processing fruits and veggies? Does anyone find that they can eat certain foods, but not a lot of them because it will still cause their gut issues? I find this type of issue with fruits and veggies if I eat too many or go too many days in a row eating them. It is not a food allergy or intolerance since I can eat some, just not a lot. Anyone else?

  3. It's hard to say. Some companies are not so great at ensuring that their sources are truly gluten-free. If you are really sensitive, you may be reacting to CC from residue in the lines. Also make sure this is not a delayed reaction to something you ate last night...etc. Did you have any other symptoms, or just bloating? If you have a lot of intestinal damage still, you may want to cut out eggs. People with IBS also often react to eggs as well.

I would avoid the shake for awhile (provided you have no other symptoms) and then reintroduce it later to see what happens. There must be Gluten-free Casein-free protein shakes...I know there is a goat's milk one...but I can't name it off the top of my head...

To answer your question, sometimes it's hard (i.e. when you have food poisoning). Usually most people react to gluten in the same way each time to a certain extent.

Usually when I react to gluten, it is within minutes. That is why I don't believe it was from something I ate prior. My reaction time is really fast and quite noticeable.

  4. How do you tell the difference between being "glutened" and it being something else? I ask because I have an egg protein powder that I drink on a regular basis. I can find no gluten in the product whatsoever. The company is going to send me all the labels for all their products, but from the research I've done, I see no gluten in any of their products. I drank some last night after being fine all day and half way through the shake, my stomach started to blow up. Is there a possibly CC with whey, even though they say no milk proteins are in their egg protein and the line is washed down properly. Help!

  5. Are they really not gluten-free? If you have read my previous post you know I am not 100% sure I have a gluten problem, but when I read this I just about fell over......

Every time I went to the doctor with my symptoms they would ask "have you tried tums" and I would always say "yes, but I swear it makes it worse" and then they would look at me like I was nuts.

If Tums really do have Gluten in them I am feeling more confident by the minute!!!!! Thank you for posting this!!!

Nope, sure aren't gluten-free. What a real shame. I wonder if the store brands are gluten-free?

  6. The medical community does not know enough about celiac disease, they really only know one way that most will agree on a diagnosis and that's sad. Just because a doctor did not see flatten villi or test in the proper area, a person is denied a diagnosis and goes on thinking celiac is crossed off the slate and to be honest, the doctor missed the problem.

I agree with you here 100%. As far as I'm concerned the medical community doesn't know enough about any medical issue anymore. They are more concerned about the red tape and insurance issues to really pay attention to the medical problems of their patients. If a person doesn't meet all 10 requirements, but has 7 of the symptoms, they are automatically denied a proper diagnosis. Even if you meet all the requirements and everything says you have "X" you are still looked at as a fool and it's all in your head. It's when you are on your deathbed that they finally go, "oops, we were wrong" and even then, that is rare. Pardon my vent.

This response is from my husband who has celiac. I read your first post to him and he is replying (I do it as he hates computers)...

"I feel like an alien in that I can't eat what others eat. Not only is gluten off limits but I can't eat fruits and vegetables and spices/pepper nor eggs nor nuts nor soy. It's frustrating wanting to eat more stuff and it drives me crazy when I see stuff I used to eat and can no longer. I've been gluten-free now for 3.5 years and I am still mourning the loss of food. I think how you mourn it differs from person to person. Those that never had a love-affair with food can shrug it off better than those (like me) who used to eat it up."

He's probably going to add more to this but he's got to think about it.

Thank you. It's comforting knowing that other's feel how I do. As it is, I have huge issues with food in regards to disordered eating. This just complicates matters even more.

  8. I really sympathize with you. I went through this exact thing earlier in the week. I work in Manhattan and its restaurant week. A bunch of my coworkers are going out to this one restaurant where there is absolutely nothing I can eat. They asked me to go and (politely) I said I would really like to go but unfortunately there is really nothing on the menu that I could safely eat. So one of my "friends" at work rolls her eyes and calls me a pain. As if I enjoy being left out of everything all the time. This really set me off and I just got really angry at the whole gluten-eating world. I am fully aware that I am much healthier, do not have a permanent stomach ache or perpetual brain fog but I can't help feeling sad sometimes.

We all need to vent at some point. That's why it's nice to have this site where people actually understand how you feel even if the people in your life don't. Any time you need to vent we are here. :)

Your co-worker actually had the nerve to call you a pain. I'm sorry, but that type of stuff infuriates me to no end. No, we enjoy being difficult and being left out. It's strictly for our enjoyment and other's displeasure. The nerve of some people. I'm glad you said you couldn't go. If they have nothing for you to eat, then tough. Health is #1 priority now and always. Keep on keepin' on! B)

  9. I have been drinking this:

    Open Original Shared Link

I called and it is completely dairy free and they said they add no gluten to the protein at all. They also said they clean the equipment before different batches, however, they cannot certify the product is gluten-free (not sure too many companies can do that anyway). It comes in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla and is sweetened with stevia.

  10. Absolutely. I'm always hungry. It's like I never get enough food to eat and I'm constantly thinking of food. I will have eaten a meal and feel as if my stomach is still empty and often times have physical hunger feelings. Very strange and very annoying. I do have suffered with the waking up at 3 am starving. Right now, upon regular waking, I'm very hungry with tummy growling. Not sure if its the whole gluten thing. Some have said its because we aren't properly absorbing the nutrients we need and therefore are hungry and craving what our body truly needs.

  11. I've read that many folks have gained weight when moving to a completely gluten-free diet. Are there any that have lost weight after going on a gluten-free diet? For those that gained weight due to the gluten, have you lost any of that weight when switching to gluten free? Where do most people's weight stand without the gluten and in what time frame?

  12. I know how you feel. Food didn't bother me so much before, and i have understanding friends, but lately i've been so sick from all food i literally can eat nothing but rice, potatoes fish and meat and the site of people eating anything else, particularly cakes or sweets makes me want to claw their eyes out :(;)<_<

Yes, that is exactly it. I get angry with people who are eating and I want to beat them to a pulp. Sorry, don't mean to sound aggressive and nasty, but it's a terrible feeling to have. I watch people eat with just love, gusto, and enjoyment and then I look at my "weirdo" food and wonder what happened to my stomach of steel!
