  1. PS, the salt I have has dextrose as an ingredient, unfortunately. But, it doesn't matter that much anyways, because I've given up salt completely. Every time I use it, even sea salt, it seems to stimulate my appetite too much.

Thank you for the link, Gff. I appreciate it.

Tammy, I totally know what you mean about the bloating. I'm not exactly thin, but whenever I eat rice, my stomach just goes all the way out. I'm hoping that maybe one day I'll be able to eat rice again because its actually pretty tasty.

It sounds like you have a pretty busy life Kb, lol.

  2. Do you have to worry about cross contanimation with Hershey's? The other day I was in the store and I saw a Hershey's baking chocolate bar and it only had two ingredients which were chocolate and cocoa. I was so excited because it didn't have soy and I haven't had chocolate in forever. I almost bought it but then worried that I might have to worry about CC with it.

  3. I was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance through Enterolab in September. Since then, I have tried to get my aunt on my dad's side to get tested because she has been told for years that she has IBS. She has many stomach problems, she is overweight, has diabetes, and has heart problems. When she was about my age, she got the skin prick allergy testing done and was told that she was allergic to wheat, milk, and many other things. However, she still consumes foods containing these things and still has many problems. Yet, she absolutely refuses to get tested. I've pretty much dropped the subject, but I really worry about her. Has anyone else ever had problems like this with family members? Is there a way to convince them that it might be a good idea to get tested?

  4. I put in to my two week notice on Saturday. It was hard though because my boss really wants me to stay, but I told him that I couldn't. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I could tell interviewers when they ask why I'm looking for another job. I'm worried that if I tell them that I had to quit because I got sick every time I went to work that they won't want to hire me.

  5. Yikes! This is me being a nutrition major, but do you get any carbs besides fruit? I don't know anything about your diet except for the above statement, but if you are on a low carb diet for very long you start to get brain fog and fatigue. Your muscles break down, the brain slows down, not to mention it is hard work on your kidneys trying to convert all that protein into usable energy (which is very very hard for a body to do). Find a whole foods market if you possibly can? Or go to Bob's RedMill online and order some stuff. There are pastas out there made with quinoa and corn that taste just like white pasta, yum. If you don't want to do any of that, consider a folate supplement. You might be missing out on it. :( Let me know if I can bombard you with any more information. :D

Thank you very much for the advice, but I also have problems when ever I eat rice or corn, so I just figured that I would have no grains for a while. I'm trying the Paleo Diet right now. I will definitely look into the folate supplement though :).

  6. I don't think that I have been glutened but I just got hit hard with depression. I have been under very much pressure lately, so I think I was letting it build up and now that my life is slowing down reality is sinking in.

I just feel so much like this disease has taken over my life, every aspect of it, and outwarly I try to pretend like I see the positives, but I still feel bad, there is no way I'm still taking in gluten, and I just hate that I am going to have to be so careful for the rest of my life...

I don't know what to do to get myself out of bed anymore, I've ruined my friendships, I'm a million miles from home in school, and I don't even feel like going back anymore because it's full of memories I'll never get back.

I'm tired of pretending like this is easy...I don't want people to tell me it's easy anymore, I don't want to be compared to others anymore. The people who try to understand me, try by asking people that they know with Celiac Disease, and while it is a nice gesture I would like them to ask me, and listen to the things that I do say.

I want my old, convenient, fun life back.

From your signature, it looks like you found out about this in July. That's when I found out about this too. It really is hard right now, but I know that eventually it will get better. Right now, I'm feeling about what your post describes. Its hard but we do have to remind ourselves of the positives and know that we will get through this. Just know that you're not alone in this and I hope that you start to feel better. :)

  7. Thank you all very much for your advice. I was pretty sure I was getting glutened at work but I felt like I was just being paranoid or doing something wrong or whatever. But, all I eat is meats, fruits, and veggies and I am very careful about being cc'd. I guess I was just pushing it off as long as I could because I really love my job. I like all of the people I work with, I've had it for about a year and a half and its fun. Honestly, this is kind of starting to not be as easy as I thought it was going to be. :(

  8. Does anyone know if it is possible to be glutened at work? I work at Pizza Hut on the weekends and I always seem to be sick on Saturdays. I usually start to feel better on Thursday or Friday and then I go to work and it seems to start all over again. Its not really bad, but its enough to cause problems. For instance, a couple of months ago I went to work on Friday and was feeling fine but then I didn't sleep Friday night, I felt out of it, and when I got to work on Saturday I could not remember how to use the credit card machine even though I've used it a million times. I don't eat anything at work, unless its a banana that I bring from home. But, I'm just wondering if maybe being around the pizza and everything for so many hours could cause problems. Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

  9. Thankyou so much for the advice on vitamins. I will definitely be trying those. :)

Gffamily, I haven't been constipated in well, a few months. Its pretty much the big D. But, whenever I eat rice, my stomach swells up like a bowling ball along with that. Its not as bad as my reactions other things, such as sodas or gluten, but it is really annoying.

Yellow Rose, lately I've had to eat from scratch too. Its hard because I'm in school and I work, so I don't have that much time to cook. I've mostly been eating fruit, veggies, and chicken. I'm feeling a lot better but sometimes when I eat too much fruit, my stomach hurts. It is pretty annoying.

Also, I've been wondering about medicines and stuff. I take Ativan for anxiety. Would a pharmacist know if it has corn in it or is there some website that lists stuff like that? Also, I've been reading that iodized salt has corn in it. I really love salt. Does all iodized salt have it in it or just the ones that have dextrose listed as an ingredient? Besides that, how do you get iodine if you don't eat salt? Thanks again.

  10. I think I might be allergic to corn and rice because I am starting to have problems every time I eat them. With corn, I have to go straight to the restroom and I get really bad joint pain. With rice, I just get really bloated, which is pretty annoying. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, does anyone know of a multivitamin that has no gluten, soy, dairy, or corn? Thank you very much.

  11. Mango, that gives me hope that maybe I can use Caress body wash. I was using it with no problems but then I saw that it had soy in it so I stopped using it. However, the other ones I have tried, except for Ivory, make me itch. Its weird considering they are soy and gluten free.

Hathor, I googled that perioral dermatitis stuff and some of those pictures look like the stuff that I get sometimes. Its finally starting to go away though, thank goodness. And like you, I'll definitely take it going away for whatever reason.

  12. I learned the lesson about the gluten free thing the hard way. I was in a hurry and was looking for some vitamins at a health food store and I bought some that said they were dairy, soy, gluten, yeast, corn, etc...free. However, when I got home I was looking at the ingredients and under superfoods it said that they contained barley and oat grass juices. I was really mad because the vitamins were pretty expensive. <_< At least now I know though.

Deb, what kind of vitamins do you take?

  13. Thankyou very much for the replies. I really appreciate it. I do have skin problems and they are probably caused by the food intolerances. I'm hoping they'll start to clear up soon now that I'm not eating anything that is bad for me but it is hard to find bath products that are gluten-free, sf, and cf. Thanks for the link, Sugarmag. I'll definitely check it out.

Hathor, has your skin cleared up since you've been sf?

  14. I actually contacted Bath and Body Works because I love their stuff and this was their response.

  15. I was thinking about trying the coffee and tea, but then I decided that I don't really need to have caffeine right now. Its probably not that great for you, so I'm going to get rid of caffeine completely. I'm kind of scared because withdrawal can be really bad, but I really want to start feeling completely better.

Ursa, I wanted to ask you though about lectins. I saw another post of yours about them. I've noticed since being on this diet that potatoes, tomatoes, and peanut butter seem to give me more problems than other food, but rice and corn don't give me any problems. The first two days I was on this diet all I ate was rice and mangos and I felt great. But then I started adding more stuff and I started getting sick again and since then its been like I'll feel better for a couple of days and then I'll just get sick out of nowhere. That's why I ended up getting the Enterolab tests done because I keep getting sick. Anyways, back to my original question, can you be allergic to only one type of lectin? Also, are they permanent like gluten intolerance?
