  1. I also noticed that dairy products influenced constipation. After I was diagnosed with IgA mediated dairy allergy and abstained from all dairy products, I rarely had hard stools. The lactaid tablets did nothing for my constipation, because I reacted to the casein protein. Consuming more fiber, fluids, magnesium and vitamin C all helped reduce constipation...
  2. You may have developed hemorrhoids during all your years of constipation. Those will make bowel movements very painful and cause you to bleed when you 'go'. There are many OTC hemorrhoid ointments. However none of them are as effective as using a 'sitz bath' to shrink hemorrhoids. That doesn't mean sitting in the bathtub. A sizt bath is a device that you...

  11. UCLANGEL: Me, too! When I told my doc about my lifelong constipation and increasing gas, bloating and intestinal pain, she labeled me 'IBS' and gave me the IBS diet sheet which suggested eating more whole grains and bran cereals. So I faithfully ate my Shredded Wheat with Bran and Lactaid Milk every morning. Little did I know that I was gluten AND...
  12. KVOGT: Why do you 'advise against meat tenderizers' and believe they can be 'hard on your stomach'?? The main ingredient papain comes from papaya and is also used in digestive enzymes which are recommended for many celiacs with digestive difficulties. Or do you believe the myth about meat tenderizers tenderizing stomach tissue?? LYNNE: Yes, Adolphs (unseasoned...

  15. I don't have anything to share about pancreatic cancer, but I wanted to reassure any of you who don't fit the 'classic' (outdated) celiac profile (diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue), that only 10% of celiacs fit that profile. I disregarded my celiac disease symptoms for years because I did not have diarrhea (more constipation than anything). I AM thin, but...
  16. Sorbitol is an artificial sweetener used in many sugar free foods and other products. As such, it's indigestible (hence calorie free), but also causes 'IBS' symptoms (gas, pain, bloating and diarrhea) for many people who consume products containing sorbitol. I first discovered sorbitol problems (cramping pain, bloating and diarrhea) many years ago when...
  17. Now I remember why I didn't consider Colgate or Crest, even though both are gluten-free/cf. Both contain sorbitol in their ingredients. For me (and many others) sorbitol causes cramping, bloating, gas and diarrhea, similar to celiac disease symptoms. Tom's of Maine toothpaste did not contain sorbitol. BURDEE
  18. I also got continually zapped by Sensodyne (recommended by my dentist for enamel erosion sensitivity probably influenced by celiac disease) while I was trying to avoid all gluten for several months. I had used Sensodyne for many years previously. I think both Colgate and Crest both have gluten-free varieties, but I couldn't find a combo whitener and sensitive...
