  1. I noticed that Chex has come out with a gluten-free instant oatmeal and tried it out. Don't know if it is a coincidence or whether they contain the gluten that doesn't like me, but the 2 times I tried it, I have had the cooks 2-step. I usually eat Bobs Red Mill Instant Oatmeal or GlutenFreeda and haven't had any problems with those brands.
  2. I have eaten from a Cheerios Honey and Oats box a plain old Cheerios regular and haven't had any reaction. I'm not full blown Celiac so it could be that I can tolerate a little more gluten than the Celiacs. Make sure the boxes are labled GF because they still have both boxes on the shelf. Then again, if they are going GF on the Cheerios product it could...
  3. Picked up my first boxes of good old regular Cheerios and Honey&Nut Cheerios at the store. They are now labeled Gluten Free.
  4. I have the Gluten allergy and I would not eat anything with that many dyes in it. I try to avoid dyes as much as possible. Even if they say they are gluten-free, you don't know what other chemicals make them up.
  5. Probably not a good idea, but if you do try it just go with a very small quantity and keep it simple so you can measure the effects.
  6. My Doctor also told me to take Mucinex to loosen up the congestion in my head that might be causing me to have ear noise. Trouble is I noticed it contains Blue #1 which is a dye, and I don't know if the dye contains gluten.
  7. Breadman TR555LC might be a good one to look at.
  8. I use protein to supplement my gluten-free diet and I was stuck with gluten-free Soy protein until I stumbled on the Vitamin World gluten-free Soy protein (Precisioin Engineered Platinum Series). Works for me, but then again I dump 2 scoops protein, frozen blueberries, frozen bananas, gluten-free yogurt, Skim milk, gluten-free peanut butter in my protein...
  9. Walmarts Great Value brand peanut butter is gluten free (marked on the jar) and is very good.
  10. Some good answers and information but as you can see it varies. Damage to the immune system by antibiotics, chemo, surgery etc. can bring about allergies and intolerances and the key is to try to heal and strengthen you immune system to correct some of these problems. Probably won't get back to where you were before it happened, but could minimize the effect...
  11. In addition to Vitamin D and Zinc I take a B-Complex and they seem to help me a lot. I would be interested in getting more information about what type of Gluten elimination diet you are following. Could be some good stuff is missing from the diet.
  12. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  13. My rule of thumb is I put the products that actually say Gluten Free on the label at the top of my list. Then I add things that don't have gluten type products on the labels, but very carefully (example is I just heard that Prego has added Oats and/or Barley to their Pasta recipie). I also try to avoid foods with a lot of ingredients. Good example is regular...
  14. Hello Momma Goose. Long time no speak. The potato Vodka is the best Vodka, but be careful they don't add anything back in. The industry has come up with so many flavors for hard liquer that you can't tell what they use to flavor it with. Distilling should kill the gluten protein, but if they add a glutenous substance back in then it defeats the purpose...
  15. I contacted Haagen Dazs and they told almost all of their ice cream was gluten free, except for the ones they added something like cookies to. So I started eating the chocalate covered vanilla ice cream bars with little or no problems. Then I tried the chocolate malted chocalate covered ice cream bars, and my stomach and guts burned for about 24 hours....
  16. What makes it a little easier to live with the Gluten allergy is there are a lot more choices than there were in 1993 when I was diagnosed. I'm not a full blown celiac and was in my 40s before the allergy hit me, so I can still remember all those great things like Pizza, black forest cake, deli rye bread, etc. etc. etc. But I learned long ago to avoid all...
  17. I would follow the advice of the reader who said look for the box that actually says Gluten Free. I have been tricked a few times by products like cereal that don't list any ingredients that are glutenized, but still make me have a reaction.
  18. Might depend on which brand of yogurt you are eating. Dannon doesn't guarantee that their yogurt is gluten free, but I believe Yoplait has gluten-free on the box. Yoplait is the one I eat, and I usually eat the peach or blueberry. Now the plain Dannon yogurt in the bigger containers does appear to be gluten free and I put it in my protein shakes.
  19. My way of thinking is that by following a strict gluten free diet with the proper supplements you probably are healthier than the general population who are eating foods packed with preservatives and other unhealthy additives. I believe we label readers pay more but eat better. Example being I like Lays Potato Chips because they have about 3 ingredients...
  20. Not geting enough Vit D will impair Calcium absorbtion and your gastroenterologist is wrong. When your gut gets messed up with gluten you don't absorb your vitamins and minerals. I was getting a Chelation IV yesterday and the young college aged girl next to me was getting a Vitamin/Mineral IV. Reason being she had Fiberomyalgia and Cronic Fatigue Syndrome...
  21. I've exercised a lot over the years and have been an advocate of using low fat milk after a workout to help promote muscle growth. Read a article a few sundays back by one of the medical docs who writes for the paper and they backed up what I have been doing. They said to stay away from the so called power energy drinks, drink regular water while you are...
  22. This might already be in the restaurant library but I thought they did a nice job of laying out the allergy info, and wanted to provide you with the URl. www.thaikitchen.com
  23. One of the best books I found over the years is titled The Allergy Self-Help Cookbook written by Marjorie Hurt Jones, R.N. Says it has over 325 natural food recipies free of wheat, milk, egg, corn, yeast, sugar and other common food allergens. I bought it at Half-Price books several years ago.
  24. I got up to about 165 lbs before I found out about the gluten thing, but a lot of my problem was that I was too tired to exercise. After I got off gluten I started exercising again and like any diet I watch what I eat . My weight stays around 152 lbs. I try to do the treadmill and weights 3 times a week, and make a point of parking at distances where I...
  25. I'm often accused of being on the Adkins diet, and I have to tell people they are not really the same. Then other people try to tell me how lucky I am because I can avoid all of those high calorie foods. I tell them that I did a great job of staying in shape when I didn't have the gluten problem. One good thing is as I get older my craving for most of...
