  1. Saw an article about Mission Foods in CA being shut down for not reporting COVID-19 cases among employees. Just FYI, might be best to avoid their products for now. Seems they were allowed to reopen after 24 hours. https://www.sacbee.com/news/coronavirus/article244543137.html
  2. Right, DH is a condition only celiacs get. The antibodies get deposited in the skin and cause irritation. Also people with DH sometimes don't show positive on the blood work. Maybe because the antibodies are in the skin rather than circulating in the blood. DH can be very sensitive to gluten and also iodine.
  3. Hi, She may be reacting to something else in her diet. There is a small percentage of us that react to oats like we do to wheat, rye and barley. So if she is eating oats that would be something to remove from her diet for a few months to see if things improve. Another possible problem food is dairy. Same thing, remove all dairy from her diet for a...
  4. Hi Chris, Another thing that can cause neuropathy is diabetes. And it is very common. So it's good to be checked for it too. If you do turn out to have diabetes, then you will want to avoid most of the gluten-free baked goods available now. gluten-free baked goods often use more sugar than regular gluten baked goods and have less in the way of vitamins...
  5. Hi Chris, Having the genes for celiac does not mean you will get celiac disease. About 30% of Americans have at least one gene for celiac disease. Only about 1% of Americans actually develop celiac disease. Don't be real concerned about giving up gluten IMHO. It may seem hard at first but you can adapt to the change right? Maybe it will take...
  6. Hi Chris, All the celiac antibody tests depend on the patient having eaten at least some gluten every day for 12 weeks before. They call that a gluten challenge. The endoscopy requires 2 weeks of daily eating gluten before it. Without the gluten consumption, the tests are invalid. There are multiple antibody tests. DGP IgA, DGP IgG, serum IgA...
  7. Hi Chris, Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition that causes damage to the body. Often celiac disease attacks the GI tract but it can also attack many other body organs. Gluten sensitivity is a broad term for reactions to gluten containing foods. It does not involve an immune attack on the body. The causes of gluten sensitivity may be unknown...
  8. That does sound pretty miserable David. Generally i think people have at least some improvement over the course of a year. Although they are not always "all better". There can be many reasons for GI distress, but per Cycleslady, re-checking celiac antibodies is a great first step. It is very possible to have gluten in your diet and not realize it...
  9. Does it taste as good as regular playdough? ☠️
  10. I think it's normal to feel hungry after going gluten-free. Remember your body is starting to heal and that take energy, Also your digestive system is beginning to start functioning more normally than before. There are lots of potential changes when we go gluten-free and stop poisoning ourselves with gluten every day.
  11. Hi Matt, Oats are a problem for me too. Sugar is good to avoid at first until your gut flora stabilizes in a healthy mix. When our guts are irritated, damaged, and inflamed they tend to not have the best bacteria thriving. So sugar may not get digested and instead feed swarms of bacteria that explode in numbers and cause IBS like symptoms. Think...
  12. Hi Matt, You can avoid buying $$$ gluten-free foods by sticking to meats, fish, nuts, veggies and fruit. Those are whole foods and are naturally gluten-free. Until you learn the gluten-free diet it's best to avoid processed foods. Learning the gluten-free diet can take 6 months or more IMHO. And missing wheat in small print on a long ingredients...
  13. D3 is a good form of vitamin D to take. 2000 IU is what I take sometimes. My doctor had me take 50k IU Rx for months due to low Vitamin D levels. That high dose didn't help my vitamin D levels tho. It is not common to overdose on vitamin D. Our skin makes enormous amounts of vitamin D in some parts of the world. We can tolerate large amounts of it....
  14. I think that boron is a missing key to some people's health with regard to vitamin D. There is a link between vitamin D and boron that is important. It seems like boron affects levels of other nutrients in the body and how vitamin D is used by the body. It could be that without adequate boron levels vitamin D cannot be efficiently used by the body. Just...
  15. Should be safe DJFL771. I think the maker has celiac children to consider. There are also other gluten digestive enzymes like CVS or Walmart sells to consider. And Betaine HCL can be helpful too. An issue to know about is the gut / liver interaction. The gut sends chemical signals to the liver to release bile during fat digestion. That chemical signaling...
  16. Hi DFL, One month is a great start! We all start sometime. I remember I didn't feel great for the first 6 months (more actually). But things did improve. If you can avoid the gluten-free junk foods and such healing will got faster IMHO. Remember it took time for the damage to occur and it takes time for it to heal. So learning patience with...
  17. Hi Juanvw, Eating gluten-free does become the norm after a while. Digestive symptoms often take months or more to go away. If helps to stick 100% gluten-free, avoid dairy and oats, avoid restaurants, and eat whole foods not processed foods. Whole foods are things like meats, fish, eggs, veggies, nuts and fruit. Processed foods are things like cake...
  18. Hi Summeranne, You might be developing DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). DH is a skin condition only celiacs get. It is an itchy rash that usually appears symeterically on the body. I suggest you stop all oats and dairy for a few months to see that helps.
  19. Hi MrPK, Did you get your test results for celiac disease from the doctor? That would be interesting to see for us. Usually they give the DGP IgA and DGP IgG test plus total serum IgA. The total serum IgA is a test to show if your body makes IgA antibodies. Some people's bodies don't. So the IgA tests are meaningless for those people. The other...
  20. Hi Tamin8, I had to give up rice for a few years after going gluten-free. It made me sick every time I ate it. Now I can eat it again though. Two liters of water is not a lot of water to drink each day. It is not even an adequate amount to drink. This lack of water could be a cause of some health issues. Your stomach needs water to make stomach...
  21. They should be gluten-free. But check with the manufacturer to be sure.
  22. Hi Kate, If you click the red or green follow circle you can change the notification preferences. Setting notifications to once a day or once a week should cut down on the emails.
  23. Hi Kate, There are a few things to consider about your antibodies still being elevated. You may be consuming a small amount of gluten on an ongoing basis and not realize it. You may have a determined immune system that is not going to power down right away. Going back to a very basic diet may help.
  24. Hi, It is much easier to get the correct test results by staying on the gluten-free diet before testing. Going off gluten and then intentionally going back on gluten for testing can cause very unpleasant symptoms. Some people say it makes them feel worse than before. You could ask the doctor if it's ok if she cuts back gluten to a lower level...
