  1. We (the generic "we," including those of us who do eat real gluten free pizza out from smaller restaurant venues and do not get glutened from this) know that a dedicated oven is not going to happen. HOWEVER, a dedicated PIZZA PAN and all utensils and oven mitts touching the alleged gluten free pizza is obligatory, is as using all dedicated gluten free...
  2. Cook in dedicated gluten free cast iron. Develop a fondness for putting blackstrap molasses in or on a lot of things. Easy iron sources.
  3. I had a positive for the brain lesions, aka "bright spots," which were not the same type as seen in MS. Had quite the falling out with the nasty, idiotic neurologist who found this and still insisted it had nothing to do with my diet, as she had spent the past year testing me for "other things" instead of what I told her I already had and had been tested...
  4. Re the rubbing alcohol - It's like antifreeze, it tastes sweet, but it's poison. The bleach and ammonia are obviously very bad smelling, and people don't spread them around because they are so caustic. One would really not be wanting to soak a porous kitchen utensil in a poisonous substance to "sanitize" it of gluten proteins, not that it would...
  5. Rubbing alcohol is terribly poisonous.... don't use this where pets could possibly ingest it, or small children. How about potato vodka or everclear ?
  6. Just wanted to say thank you for putting up those recent links on fructose in the wine discussion. My daughter has been having possible fructose issues the docs can't figure out, and I'm going to be taking this info. to her doc to see if it may help! Thank you!

  7. It is mostly just stopping eating it and seeing if your symptoms go away. Since it is not a common grain, it's relatively easy to avoid. Then if you wish to experiment, if you go a week and your symptoms disappear, you can always purchase some gluten free millet in some form, cook it, eat it, and see what happens. If the headaches return, that was...
  8. "Bread" is usually home made around here, because I am using high protein ingredients and this way can customize it to what I can get along with better. Plus, it is fresh and tastes much better this way. I tend to use smaller bread pans and the smaller loaves come out better. Also, I make a lot of quick breads instead of yeast, and use dedicated, small...
  9. Your skillet bread is incredible. THANK YOU!

    Brain Lesions

I am/was one of the people with brain lesions and neurological symptoms resembling MS. It wasn't. How do I know this. Because by changing my diet, I regained much balance, and the feeling in my hands, arms, shoulders, feet, calves, and my vision improved dramatically, and I am no longer partially color blind in one eye nor almost night- blind. ...
  11. Ah, thanks!

Phew! Peter left me a comment two months ago about locking a thread where I put a bunch of links about an otc drug recall, and I still haven't figured out how to get the little notification box off the front page when I open it ..... I thought uh oh, now what did I do ?! lol was it the Pamela's clone mix recipe, hah!

  12. Just want to say I appreciate so many of your helpful posts on the board!! Cheers, IH

  13. Oh, geez, your chiropractor might be a genius for this if he has caught it ! Re: ataxia, you do not want to wait and have this get worse, if you can stop it and actually get better. Run, do not walk, run and get those blood tests if they are for standard celiac panels. Stay on gluten while you are getting tested. wikipedia on Romberg's Test http...
  14. If I were going to use a mix, I'd go for the Pamela's. I am not a "supertaster," a person with extra taste buds, so I don't have a problem with the bean flours the way some people do. Other people find rice flours really gritty. I don't do well with a lot of white, high glycemic index type flours, so I tend to go with mixing up my own variations, with...
  15. ______ for not using yeast in baking- Re: baking soda and pure apple cider vinegar, or even lemon juice, can be easily used to leaven gluten free breads instead of yeast. You just don't have to let the loaves or breads "rise," with the fermenting yeast working with sugars, but bake them right away as it's the fizz from the soda and acid that does...
  16. Attention: This is an older thread. However, the cautions about ingredients still apply. Especially for Tylenol. Benedryl. Motrin. News this week (March 18th 2011) says that the FDA is taking over 3 manufacturing plants operated by Johnson & Johnson McNeil's division, because they have had so many problems with recalls. link here: http...
  17. Not as long as it was gluten free. If (safe) vinegar was bad for us I would have been a goner years ago. Some of these pickled things like saurkraut and olives and cabbage are high in natural probiotics. You stomach is already full of acid, that's how it starts breaking down the food for digestion.
  18. Costochondritis - inflammation of the cartilage in the ribcage. One of the charming symptoms of sero negative arthritis along with the sjogren's and the tendonitis. I don't get it as much now, but it's one of those oh just let me die now sort of things if it coincides with a chest cold and asthma or if you sustain an accidental impact to the ribs.
  19. Ah, uhm, well.... no. My spouse switches back and forth (eats gluten free at home, and then also sometimes eats gluten free at restaurants when we go out together) and doesn't have a problem. He might go a whole weekend or several vacation days without it, and then eat a regular lunch out with no result. I, on the other hand, won't intentionally...
  20. Oh, what a bummer about the tree nut allergy. You can successfully bake with almost any sort of gluten free flour mixture, if you tweak the recipe enough. 3 way mixtures, one third of each, work well, such as: rice flour /corn starch/ tapioca rice/ potato starch / tapioca rice / corn starch / potato rice / corn or potato starch...
  21. ______________________ Hey there yourself. This thread started years ago. Your link goes to another site where it says "status confirmed" but when I clicked on that link, it said "product not found." Hershey's moved much of its manufacturing to Mexico a few years back, and around that time they started to get coy about not being able to confirm the gluten...
  22. Wheat gluten is just the protein inner kernel part of the flour, and it adds chewiness to the recipe. So you could use other ingredients that are high protein, like mashed beans and ground nuts, or even mashed potatoes, some alternative gluten-free flour such as amaranth, which is a little bit sticky, or tapioca, which is definitely sticky, and some...
  23. I noticed that the benedryl boxes have changed and the cute little dry powdered, gelatin capsules I have taken for years for emergencies, (not to mention you can give this to a horse in an emergency, don't laugh) have now been replaced in stores with this liquidgel ****. I am not a happy camper. I despise trendy stuff done for no reason. Does anyone...
  24. On traveling- What surprised me about Las Vegas was when ordering food at the big Casino restaurants, the wait staff actually understood what I meant and it was possible to get plain, unseasoned meat and vegetable and rice and potato for dinners. My fellow conventioners were sort of amused that I was thrilled to see a request of plain rice come from the...
  25. It's not the restaurants, it's the groceries that should concern you the most, whether or not you can purchase staple products that are gluten free, relatively close to where you live. Restaurants and their policies come and go, but most of your eating at home needs to be safe. I will stick around here in CA (north of Sacramento) because I seem to be...
