  1. We are having a french leek pie in the new crust I bought from Whole Foods, with a green mixed salad, and baked apples stuffed with dates and brown sugar.
  2. Put me firmly in the lectin problem camp. They are a bigger problem for me than gluten. And responsible for itches which gluten wasn't. ETA: You can learn more about lectins here: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/lectins/#axzz27V82GF5M
  3. The reason that the experts are fifty/fifty on the grain alcohols is that probably fifty/fifty of celiacs do or do not react to them. You cannot generalize from yourself as to the way others will react. I have just finished a vodka martini to which I have absolutely no reaction, and I do not tolerate potato or wheat, so for me, enough of whatever has been...
  4. Nothing - recycled stuffed chicken thighs from last night, with mushroom fried rice (also recycled) and something green. One must ALWAYS be green
  5. Hubs and I for a while shared the same PCP. Invariably, if either of us mentioned some new thing that was bothering us, he would say, "You know, my wife had that...." We decided his wife must be a basket case We used to laugh about it all the time.
  6. Hubs is doing dinner tonight - he is going to stuff an acorn squash with sausage and all kinds of vegetables and bake it - yum, yum. He'd better get cracking!
  7. I won't have electric can't cook on them, everything boils over or you turn it down too soon and it doesn't come to the boil
  8. this kind of stuff?? There are a few Auckland Organic butcheries etc etc, but will these butchers still have meets containing this stuff?? What a brand of free range eggs??? I found you through all the forums I was reading from all around the world, and you definately sound like you know your stuff!!! Love to hear from you. Chris

  9. Hey there. I am new to the Celiac community and I have just come across a thread you have posted in, regarding gluten or corn, biotics or meat contaminations etc etc that can be found in beef or chicken that can be fed grains etc etc. Are you able to email me at notforsale2011@hotmail.com and have a chat with me, regarding a good place or how to ask for chicken or meat that should be free from all

  10. Like Imam Bayiildi - "the priest fainted" at the deliciousness of the eggplant dish I used to enjoy making that in my tomato-eating days.
  11. Whole Paycheck usually have it,
  12. Oh, what a chore, to HAVE to use up fresh sheep's cheese
  13. That's what I always used to buy, but now all I can find is Best Foods with soy bean oil. That's why I say I have to go shopping. I didn't care for the Spectrum stuff either. If it's still out there, one of these days I'll find it
  14. My first county fair, I was greeted at the gate by this ginormous man, "Howdeee neighbor, How's about a ham sammmwitch?" Never was offered no beans. But back in the days when I made (and ate) beans it was always Boston baked beans from Fanny Farmer. They were so soooo good!
  15. I had put together basic fixin's for tuna salad (the tuna, onion, mashed hardboiled eggs, pickles) and then decided I wanted something hot. Still haven't been shopping for soybean free mayonnaise so found some ricotta, mixed that in with some grated havarti, spread on toasted Udi's, sprinkled with cheddar and broiled. Mmmm!
  16. You need to be referred to a sleep center for a polysomnography study. Yes, I can imagine how scary that would be if you CANNOT breathe in
  17. No, you are not imagining it. I do that, breathe really shallow at night and slower and slower until I stop breathing altogether. It has nothing to do with weight. And I wake up with a start, really short of oxygen. They call them hypopneas. The doctors try to tell me I have an obstruction and try to put me on BiPAP, but that's worse because I can't...
  18. Now you behave yourself, Marilyn! You hear?
  19. Boy, do you live in Tucson, prickly?? The only time I was ever there it was 103 in May!
  20. Another typo and you could have had a glass of pinto gringo
  21. I do not consider a "processed in the same facility as" gluten warning to be an automatic no for me. I consider the company and the product and will most often buy it. I give a lot more consideration to something "processed on the same lines as" gluten, but again I am forewarned and would not blame the company for putting this statement on the package ...
  22. No, my take on it is more like a crispbread, like is made by Orgran perhaps? And I haven't seen anything similar here in the U.S.
  23. It's not possible to please everyone - I order a pizza without tomato sauce
  24. Yes, I DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION
  25. That's fine if they call it something other than gluten free and it is not endorsed by any celiac organization.
