  1. She's feeling much better today, but my husband had some GI issues last night, so I'm thinking maybe it was a stomach bug.

Regardless of that, we're still trying to make sure we eliminate all gluten. I made gluten free playdoh for her preschool class and we've checked all her meds. I also switched her body wash and our hand soap to something gluten free. I keep running things through my head to make sure I'm nt missing anything.

    Thanks again everyone!

  2. We've been using Target brand body wash/shampoo. I cntacted them about the prduct and their body lotion...this was their response:

"Although the following Target brand items do not contain any gluten in any of

the actual ingredients, the manufacturer does run gluten-containing products on

the same equipment, so there is a risk of cross-contamination from gluten."

So I'm guessing we shouldn't use it due to the risk of CC, right?

So I will be trying California Baby. Thank you for your suggestions!

  3. Meline- Thanks for your reply. She did have an endoscopy that showed villi damage.

No more vomiting, but DD has been having loose stools (yellow, putrid smelling) since Tuesday. She's eating/drinking intermittently (not tons, but that's usual for her) and no fever. Energy level is pretty good. Does this sound like a stomach bug or that she's been glutened? I'm waiting to hear back from her pediatrician, and thought I could call her pedi GI, but neither of them know much about celiac. We don't go to the celiac center until April 11...our first appt. Thanks

  4. DD 2.5 has been gluten free for about 10 days. She vomited 4 days ago (once, no other symptoms), but we attributed it to her methotrexate shot (for arthritis) b/c she got sick a few hours after that. Today at school she had a very large watery BM and then vomited 3 hours later. I figure this could be a stomach bug or that she somehow ingested some gluten (although we're not sure what). She didn't vomit frequently before going gluten-free, but I know she would be more sensitive to gluten now. However, she has never had diarrhea, she's always been constipated....can symptoms change after going gluten-free...meaning that gluten would now cause diarrhea, not constipation for her? Trying to figure this all out. Thanks

  5. I made gluten-free Goldfish crackers for my daughter but they were chewy, not crunchy at all. I used this recipe by Betty Hagman and Wendy Cannon (Open Original Shared Link ). I baked them on silcone baking sheets. I was hoping for a crunchy cracker...any suggestions? Should I use parchment paper instead? Should I use less butter, ricotta cheese, or sour cream? Once I fix the crunch-factor, I might also experiment to make them more cheddar-y...should I grate cheddar cheese, or do you think it would be better to use Kraft powdered cheese from the mac n cheese boxes? Thanks!!!

  6. Do (undiagnosed) celiac women tend to have large babies, or does it vary greatly? We just found out DD2 has celiac, so I am going to be tested soon. I'm just curious b/c she was 6 lbs, 15 ounces, however my 4 month old son was a whopping 9 lbs, 12 ounces (tested negative for gestational diabetes). Everyone was shocked at how huge he was considering DD was on the smaller side. I've also noticed a lot of GI symtpoms for me the past few months, so I'm wondering if there is a connection between celiac moms and birth weight. Thanks

  7. Just this afternoon when I click on a topic to read, only the original post/question comes up n the screen. Subsequent replies/posts for the topic are lumped together at the bottom of the screen and I can't read them unless I click on them individually. Can anyone help me fix this so that I can read all replies on one page? Thank you!

  8. DD's (2.5) tTG and endomysial antibdies were positive, she has HLA-DQ2, and biopsy inconclusive, so we started the gluten free diet 5 days ago...and hopefully she will start feeling better and gaining!

Her doctor hasn't made any recommendations, but I'd like my husband and I to be tested. Should I just ask my primary care physician to order the celiac panel below?

Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG

    Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

    Total IgA level.

Or should I ask him to order HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 to see which one of us, or if both of us, has HLA-DQ2 or possibly HLA-DQ8 also them? Am I missing anything else? We plan to go through our insurance. I thought I might have read someone on the forum not recommending to have the HLA testing through insurance since it could cause a problem in the future.

We also have a 4 month old son who has only gotten gluten through my breastmilk. When should he be tested...at age 2, or sooner if he develps symptoms?

Please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks!

  9. We're having a bit of a rough start with the gluten free diet. Our 2.5 yr old daughter has been spitting out the new cereals and pastas, which is mainly what she used to eat. We've tried mac n cheese 3 ways, plus buttered noodles today, and she gags n them. Maybe is the texture she doesn't like? She doesn't like much of the packaged stuff, except pretzels, and she doesn't like the graham crackers I made (hubby and I like them though!). She's pretty much been eating fruit and cheese the past 4 days, plus a few slices of the bread I made, which I know is fine for a short period of time. Just wondering how smoothly this went for anyone else with small children? Any tips, suggestions?

  10. Thank you ravenwoodglass. Her doctor actually suggested "loading her up with gluten" and repeating the biopsy as one option since he thinks the diet is so "restrictive," but we refused since trying the gluten free diet is not invasive/harmful, and will hopefully help her and confirm the diagnsis. Fortunately he also felt the gluten-free diet was an option, but we would have done it anyway. I spoke w/her pharmacist yesterday and I'm calling all of the companies today. Thanks again

  11. Just wondering about the normal range for endomysial antibody. My daughter's pedi GI doc said she was 1:80, and said she's low positive. Her tTG was also mildly elevated, but biopsy was inconclusive...showed villi damage, but not the usual increase of lymphocytes in the tissue...which could be skewed by the methotrexate she's on for arthritis. We started the gluten free diet two days ago, plan is to check her weight and bloodwork again to check for response. Anyway, I'm just trying to put all of the pieces together, and was curious to know the normal range for EMA.

    Thanks

  12. My 2.5 yr old daughter just officially started the gluten free diet yesterday (blood pos, bx inconclusive, now looking to see if she responds to the diet). She goes to preschool/daycare 3 days per week, so I need to review the gluten free diet with them. They usually provide her food, but I figure now I'll send in most of her food, and perhaps let her eat their fruit and yogurt if the labels look ok to me, and if I feel confident that they understand about CC.

Any suggestions on how to educate the staff? Are there any resources or educational information online that I can print and give them with the highlights? How have any of you handled this? Without making the staff think I'm nuts and overreacting, what do I need to tell them about handwashing for the staff, my daughter, and the other kids before/after meals, etc.?

I also know she can't use their playdough, so I'm planning to make a gluten-free version tonight and send it in. What else do I need to do to prepare for her going in to school?

She is a very picky eater, but usually does better at school watching the other kids, so I'm nervous she will want what they have, and the teachers won't know how to best handle the situation.

    Thank you!
