I'm in the group of naturally high cholesterol (stays close of 300) that I tried for years to treat naturally, but in the end couldn't. I'm on a low dose statin that seems to work very well for me, and I've not noticed any negative side effects from it. I've got heart disease on both sides of my family, and my father passed away of a heart attack at 48, so...

Hi Chris, Welcome to the forum, and I'm sorry to hear that you got glutened. Your story sounds a lot like issues many people with celiac disease face regularly--I too like to eat out sometimes, and usually pick restaurants that have gluten-free menu options, but like you, I've also had issues. For the past couple of years I've been using the GliadinX supplement...

Testing in Ontario
Scott Adams replied to Noglu10pls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope that you're not having an allergic reaction as well. Some of the symptoms you describe, especially the watery eyes and facial swelling, sound more like an allergy. It is, of course, possible you have both a wheat allergy and intolerance to gluten. Be extra careful if you experience swollen lips, itchy throat, swelling in your throat, etc., and you... -

Testing in Ontario
Scott Adams replied to Noglu10pls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your family is correct, besides follow up care for celiac disease which, according to studies often doesn’t happen, the only other reason to get diagnosed would be if you needed the piece of paper to help you stay on the diet and/or be able to justify to your loved ones being on the diet. If you don’t need any of this, just go gluten-free, and a pos... -
I forgot to mention that last week we did a summary of older (2018) research which shows that cow's milk protein can also cause elevated Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) in some people, so it makes me wonder if cow's milk can also cause flattened villi, and if this is a separate condition from celiac disease:

The test I just took and am awaiting the result for is the ALCAT test (note that they have been a sponsor of this site in the past, but currently are not, and the only compensation for the article I am doing for them is a free test, which will be disclosed in the article): https://cellsciencesystems.com/patients/alcat-test/ PS - They do have a lab...

Velveeta and Twenty Other Surprisingly Gluten-Free Foods
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
In some countries in Europe I seriously doubt that Velveeta could even legally be called "cheese." 😉 Certainly there are likely many healthier alternatives out there, like real cheeses, which your granddaughter can have, although many likely won't be certified gluten-free (since nearly all cheeses are naturally gluten-free, most producers won't bother go...- 19 comments

Testing in Ontario
Scott Adams replied to Noglu10pls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your rash is dermatitis herpetiformis, then 6 weeks could be very difficult--and really it may be longer because your doctor may want to do a biopsy confirmation, and they usually want you to continue eating it until that is finished. Let us know how it goes, and good luck! -
I've had neuropathy issues to some degree for almost 25 years, even though I've been taking supplements that are supposed to help with it. It wasn't until I started taking benfotiamine (a type of B1 that absorbs better), and magnesium citrate during the past year that I've finally stated seeing improvement with it.

gluten-free for Three Weeks
Scott Adams replied to SLPMom85's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you were diagnosed with celiac disease, which it sounds like you were, then you are in the very early stages of recovery. The good news is that you should continue to feel better and better for months to come, as your gut heals and you absorb nutrients better. -
Just like there are 8 top allergens, there are likely at least 8 foods responsible for the vast majority of food intolerance issues, and the two groups seem to overlap quite a bit. It's a bit of speculation on my part, but due to my own experience I believe that in many cases of food intolerance and/or celiac disease eating foods which you may be allergic...

Celiac and Behcet's correlations?
Scott Adams replied to Ayesha Williams's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
From your post it looks like he has celiac disease, and I assume that he's been on a gluten-free diet. It might make sense to re-check his diet to make sure he's staying gluten-free and not getting any cross contamination, for example if you eat outside your home. Teenagers are also known to be more likely to cheat on their diets due to peer pressure issues... -
To me it sounds like you are experiencing a normal reaction to the vaccine--your immune system has been activated, which it should be, and is now developing antibodies against covid. Severe reactions typically occur during the first 30 minutes to 4 hours, although there are probably examples where some people had severe reactions later. A sore arm and chills...

Celiac and Behcet's correlations?
Scott Adams replied to Ayesha Williams's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A couple of years ago we did an article summarizing a study on this which found no connection: -
Welcome to the forum! If you were to tell them about your diagnosis it would likely disqualify you. I am pretty sure that the reason they are asking this question is to rule out anyone with genetically higher risk of autoimmune and other diseases. 😞 PS - This is a very interesting question, and I'm not sure it's been asked here before.

Could I possibly have Celiacs?
Scott Adams replied to hayleedee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had an ALCAT test done and will be doing an article about this. I have not yet received my results. I will be asking questions to the company owner about their gluten sensitivity testing, as well as their other tests.
