Is Malt-O-Meal Cereal Gluten-Free?
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
If these cereals where made on shared equipment with wheat, then they would need to disclose wheat as a potential allergen on the ingredient labels, which they do not. Where did you get the information that these cereals are made on shared equipment?- 9 comments

Welcome to the forum @JoeS. Although there may be medications that reduce or eliminate the symptoms of celiac disease, the bigger issue is that there are many known health risks associated with those who have celiac disease but are not on a 100% gluten-free diet. It would be good for you to encourage her to stick to that diet, and support her with that approach...

Help plz with results. celiac?
Scott Adams replied to Layu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't believe your doctor can make a blanket statement like "the diarrhea from celiac disease would not be stopped by the medications," because everyone is different. Many celiacs don't have any symptoms at all, including diarrhea. If you have celiac disease you should be 100% gluten-free, even if medications might hide your symptoms, and this is because... -
Celiac diagnosis
Scott Adams replied to Vickey Matteson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance"... -
Help plz with results. celiac?
Scott Adams replied to Layu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It’s great that you’ve been to the doctor and are exploring all possibilities! However, it’s important to note that celiac disease testing, including antibody tests and endoscopy, should ideally be done while you're still consuming gluten. The fact that you don’t have diarrhea doesn't rule out celiac disease, as not everyone with celiac has diarrhea — sympt... -

dermatitis herpetiformis and cross reaction?

If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch: -
I've not heard of a connection between gluten and styes, but it's possible. For years I had blepharitis as a symptom whenever I got gluten contamination. This article might be helpful:

Newly Diagnosed
Scott Adams replied to Jake R.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum and it's great to hear that you're recovering and getting your life back to normal. I also went through a few years of going to doctors, and also had panic attacks, trips to the emergency room, etc., so I also felt relieved to just figure out what was going on. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten... -
Can celiac suddenly 'occur'?
Scott Adams replied to sezza61's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you do end up with a negative test, approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.- 23 replies

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The...

Can celiac suddenly 'occur'?
Scott Adams replied to sezza61's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Let us know how it turns out, but have you been eating gluten, lots of it, daily for at least 6 weeks? They usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily, otherwise your results could be false negative if you've been gluten-free before the test.- 23 replies

I agree with @trents--Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. Your...

Welcome to the forum. I just want to mention that B9 is a vitamin where too much can be toxic: Vitamin B9 (Folate): The UL for Folic Acid is set at 1,000 mcg (1 mg) per day for adults. This limit primarily applies to synthetic folic acid found in supplements and fortified foods, not naturally occurring folate in food. High intake of folic acid can mask...

Potential diagnosis
Scott Adams replied to matts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Given your family history and you this test result, it's very likely that you have celiac disease. The next step is normally an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis, and if so, you would need to keep eating gluten daily, lots of it, for at least two weeks before that procedure. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what... -
Help! I have to eat gluten :(
Scott Adams replied to BadHobit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For what it's worth, at the time of my celiac disease diagnosis I was also diagnosed with H. Pylori and treated for it with antibiotics. The throat swelling sounds like an allergy that may not be associated with celiac disease--if you can recall the foods you ate before this reaction it might help you track down the culprit, but if you can't it might make... -

Do you eat out in restaurants? This is a common source of contamination. The first step for you would be to re-examine your diet to be sure that it is 100% gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.): -

If your reaction to gluten is this strong and obvious, do you really need a formal diagnosis? Why not just go gluten-free?
