I feel like I'm a conundrum....
Scott Adams replied to zebra1975's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Weak positive is still a positive test. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. Using biopsy results only it does not require Marsh 3 damage to make a diagnosis--a diagnosis can be made with Marsh 2 level damage, especially if... -
Question about wheat exposure in my profession
Scott Adams replied to Grace Mattaliano's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Most wheat starch has most of the gluten removed, but only Codex wheat starch will test below 20ppm. It's clear that this type of work could never be done with someone who has a severe wheat allergy, not matter which wheat starch was used. As for people with celiac disease, those who are highly sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis (the skin manifestation... -
I feel like I'm a conundrum....
Scott Adams replied to zebra1975's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"marsh being only a 2 and not a 3" PLUS "ttg igg at most is only weakly positive" = celiac disease. Many celiacs are asymptomatic, so you cannot go by symptoms as a diagnostic criteria in all cases. Your TTg-IgA tests were negative due to your naturally low IgA, so the negative results don't mean anything other than IgA tests won't work with you. -

I've only had a pre-popped version of popped sorghum, sorry. Normally you would put them in a frying pan with a lid on it, add some butter or oil, then move the pan back and forth quickly until it all pops (at least this works for popcorn!).

There is no "neutralizer" that allows someone with celiac disease to eat gluten, although there are products that contain AN-PEP enzymes which may break down small amounts of gluten, for example a cross-contaminated gluten-free meal. This article discusses pure research--this is not on the market, it is a potential product that will need years of testing...

Brands of Gluten-Free Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
It looks like Good & Gather Chocolate Hazelnut Spread is naturally gluten-free, but does not say "gluten-free" on its label: https://www.target.com/p/chocolate-hazelnut-spread-13oz-good-38-gather-8482/-/A-87699192- 2 comments

New and Frustrated
Scott Adams replied to AmandaA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How much gluten were you eating on a daily basis before your blood and biopsy tests for celiac disease were done? It's recommended to eat lots of gluten, at least two slices of wheat bread per day for 6-8 weeks before getting tested, otherwise results could be false negative. You can still have celiac disease with negative blood test results, although... -

It's strange that the Nurse Practitioner might make a mistaken celiac disease diagnosis based on your total IgA, but to be sure you should request that your doctor look at the results and discuss them with you. If you did want to do an endoscopy for celiac disease you would need to keep eating gluten daily until all tests are completed.

abnormal weight loss
Scott Adams replied to glucel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you eating enough protein, fat and carbohydrates? Healthy carbs like corn tortillas, rice and beans can help you gain weight. Increasing the fat content in meals can help individuals with celiac disease feel less hungry by providing longer-lasting satiety, since fats digest more slowly than carbohydrates and proteins. This article may... -

Since you keep linking to the same site that has a focus on the microbiome, it's clear that you have a strong focus on the topic, but here it usually comes up in relation to untreated celiac disease, thus I've shared the research summaries that we've done over the years on how the two are related. Like many disorders, including celiac disease, it's clear...

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The...

Shaking/Tremors and Off Balance
Scott Adams replied to Ginger38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In general I'm all for a formal diagnosis, except in cases where someone gets very sick when they eat gluten, and have already been on a gluten-free diet for a long time and don't plan to eat it again anyway. There seems to be more drawbacks that keep popping up with being formally diagnosed--at least here in the USA. I can testify that it's definitely... -
Shaking/Tremors and Off Balance
Scott Adams replied to Ginger38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While I understand wanting a formal diagnosis, it sounds like you will likely remain gluten-free either way, even if you should test negative for celiac disease (Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal N... -
Gluten free Adderall Generic
Scott Adams replied to Heather C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance"... -
Shaking/Tremors and Off Balance
Scott Adams replied to Ginger38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I forgot, why are you doing the gluten challenge again? I ask only because it sounds like you will be gluten-free either way, even if your test results are negative.
