Keep in mind that if your Ferritin is low and your adrenal hormone cortisol is low, you can get "false hyper" symptoms when you take Armour. Those two need to be up to snuff BEFORE starting Armour.
With your labs....I would DEFINITELY consider Armour. I was severely hypo at 2.8 TSH and still hypo at 2. I am now .08 which is perfect due to autoimmune disease. You want to supress the TSH to stop the attack.
You should also have your antibodies to your thyroid checked.
You are getting the picture, it just isnt complete yet.

Anyone eat Kimchi?
I want to get plenty of good bacteria in my system, but feel food is the way to go. And honestly, I am weening myself off of pills (supplements). Ack!!
Dairy is out. I can make coconut yogurt, but so want something that is already made. So at my local health food store, I saw Kimchi. It is this brand:
Open Original Shared Link
It says it is full of the lactic acid bacteria (acidophilus) and helps digestion.
Well I was afraid to eat it at first. My Dad was in the Korean war and he always talked about them eating this "nasty" fermented vegetable stuff called Kimchi. He said they would throw vegetables in a whole in the ground, cover it for months and then eat it. Needless to say....I have never eaten Kimchi.
But I opened the jar and to my surprise it didnt smell bad at all. I sampled some and it is absolutely YUMMY!! A little salty and sour (but not too sour). Almost like pickles.
I read a few places that Kimchi is SCD legal. And this one has no weird ingredients. All SCD legal ingredients.
Anyone else?

I agree that you do not need a doctor's permission to keep your son gluten-free.
If your doctor will not order the genetic test, you can use Enterolab or Kimball (pay out of pocket, but dont need a doctor's order).
Congratulations on getting your son well!!

Your B12 is low. Did you get injections? They are the best way to get it back up PLUS daily sublinguals.
Your Ferritin is likely low as well. You should have a CBC run to test your blood and Iron/Iron stores.
Did they test your Thyroid? That is an issue for MANY of us. This can also keep you from losing weight.
***On the food***
I dont eat any processed foods anymore. I eat lean meats (beef, chix, turkey, fish & seafood), oils (virgin/cold pressed oilive, coconut primarily), ALL veggies (except I dont eat nightshades right now), low sugar fruits (berries, peaches, apples, pears, coconut), carby squashes (butternut, acorn, spaghetti), nuts and seeds (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts & pumpkin seeds mostly) and eggs.
But others can chime in on th processed foods.

Alas, the dairy (kefir) I was eating, was back to it's old tricks. No bloating. No D or anything GI. But when I eat dairy I gain weight. But not good weight. I get Edema ALL OVER!! So while I was excited to be a little plumper, it isnt healthy. Edema is your body's way of saying NO!!
So last night I made more coconut SCD yogurt. I got a young coconut the other day. I am eating some now. I used just acidophilus from Pure Encapsulations this time. It turned out great. Not too tart. Very nice.

They mean you are actively reacting to gluten, but you caught it early enough to where the damage might not be too severe (no malabsorption yet). You have a CELIAC gene and pretty severe gluten intolerance according to Enterolab.
MANY Celiacs cannot tolerate dairy while they are healing. And have to go gluten-free and CF at least for a few months or so. You can try adding it back in later. Some can never eat dairy again, but many can.
The Enterolab shows you should go dairy free as well.
I know it is hard, look at my signature. But it is doable. I tried adding dairy back in for a brief while, but discovered that I was gaining too much weight. Dairy has always made me gain weight abnormally. So I am off it again.
There is still plenty to eat. Just ask us for help!
Do some research on your genes. The Celiac gene you have can also predispose you to T1 Diabetes. There is also evidence that consuming dairy can lead to diabetes. Research this.
So it is in your best interest to stay gluten-free for life and adopt a diet of whole foods and low/to no junk foods. Lean meats, low sugar fruits, lots of veggies, whole gluten-free grains, eggs, nuts & seeds.
You can do it gradually. Ween off of dairy and junk foods to make it easier.

If you eat nitrate/nitrite free lunch meat and still get the same reaction, consider "tyramine". Processed and aged meats have very high levels of this amine. Tyramine is an amine which causes elevated blood pressure and tachycardia by displacing norepinephrine from storage vesicles. Tyramine is generally produced by decarboxylation of the amino acid tyrosine during fermentation of food products. All protein-rich foods which have been matured will contain more tyramine depending on the temperature and how long they have been stored.
Fresh liver, meat and fish have no significant levels of tyramine, but old liver and meat contain high amounts. Processed meats, lunch meats, cured or pickled meats, and meat by-products and broths often contain large amounts of tyramine.
There is a connection to tyramine and your symptoms.
Hopefully it is just the nitrate/nitrites.

She is old enough to explain "osteoporosis" to her. Being Celiac (and continuing to eat gluten) means she is not absorbing her nutrition properly. She is likely lacking in calcium, magnesium and vitamin D. It is at her age that she can do the MOST or LEAST to save her bones. Those pains are NOT a good sign (as you well know). If she drinks soda too, the bone loss will be compounded. Soda contains LOTS of phosphorus that leaches calcium from the bones. There was a recent study showing that teenaged girls that drink sodas daily have osteopenia in their early 20's and signs of osteoporosis in their early 30's. Not good!
You need to educate her. Show her pictures of osteoporosis and explain that when you have it, a simple fall can break a hip (that may not heal). You might think that she is too young to even consider such a thing, but there was a poster in here recently that said she was 23 and just dx with osteoporosis.
Also let her know that other autoimmune diseases are associated with untreated Celiac (Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Type 1 Diabetes, MS, etc). She needs to be educated even if it doesnt sink in right away.
All you can do is give her ALL if the information on how not going gluten-free can affect her health. And then hope she decides on her own to be gluten-free. Allow NO gluten foods in your home. Explain to her that you are not being a loving parent if you allow her to eat "poison" in your home. Explain that you cannot control what she eats when she is away from you, but because you love her, your home will be gluten-free.
And as a sign of solidarity, be gluten-free yourself. I know it's hard, but imagine the impression you could make on her if your entire household went gluten-free. If she sees others making sacrifices, she might be more inclined to do so herself.
And like others have said, there is no real sacrifice of goodies because for every gluten goodie, there is a gluten-free alternative.
I really hope you can get her gluten-free soon. I would hate to see her suffer the consequences.

For me to apply for a handicapped sticker for my car, I would have to be completely unable to walk. When I broke my foot and the doctor said because of the type of break, I would not be able to walk for 4 - 6 months, he wrote up the form for me to get the handicapped sticker. I never applied. I used my crutches. I never see myself as incapable. I always see myself as "being able to do anything" I set my mind to. I dont want to get lazy or be handicapped.
Do you see yourself as disabled? It is not for us to judge. If you really feel you need a handicapped sticker because you cannot walk very much, then you can ask your doctor about it.

Amber you are most welcomed here. I try to catch "newbie" threads everyday so people dont get overlooked.

Enjoy your chocolate!
I was just saying what "I" dont tolerate. I find it interesting with the grass allergy in HLA-DQB1 0301 that I have intolerances to the food grasses.
Chocolate gives me horrible rebound depression. There was a thread on chocolate. I found a site that showed other people like me that get severely depressed after eating chocolate. I thought I was the only one. Im not.
So eat some for me!
-
Does she have symptoms?
I would also wait for the genetic tests to come back.
-
Here is another interesting finding:
Grass pollen allergy was associated with an increased frequency of HLA-DQB1*0301 (RR = 2.3; EF = 0.4; P = 0.0016) when compared with the control population.
Now I cannot tolerate grains or sugar which are ALL in the GRASS FAMILY!! Gramineae: Grass Family -- wheat, barley, rice, wild rice, millet, sorghum, corn, maize, bamboo shoots, sugar cane, teff, oats, rye, spelt

That my dear would indicate CELIAC disease. There are a few other rare reason your villi would be flattened or partially flattened too. BUT THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!
Did you have Celiac bloodwork done too?
-
It means you have a large number of antibodies to "Gliadin" in your stool.
Gliadin is a glycoprotein present in wheat and several other cereals within the grass genus Triticum. Gliadins are known for their role, along with glutenin, in the formation of gluten.

In this large and extraordinary observation, increasing TSH levels were associated with increasing levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and decreasing HDL. At what level of TSH did this relationship start? At TSH levels as low as 1.0!
In other words, there were perturbations in standard lipid measures even with TSH levels ordinarily regarded as "normal," even "perfect."
I will have to agree with this as my Cholesterol dropped as my TSH dropped. My Cholesterol is now perfect and all of my heart indicators (C-Reactive Protein, Lipids, etc. are all perfect).
I wont ever let my TSH go anywhere near 1 again. That is too high for my personal biological makeup.

Stress makes everything worse.
You should be tested for Lyme as the spotted fever could be a co-infection. IGENX is the lab you want for Lyme.
You CERTAINLY should be on probiotics with taking Abx. Lots of Acidophilus. And not just yogurt. You need more than that. A supplement.
How much C are you on?

I wasnt "barely" normal. I was "perfectly" normal according to doctors for 12 years. WRONG!! I was severely hypothyroid at a TSH of 2.88. Armour made ALL the difference in the world for me. It was like someone flipped switch. I couldnt believe it!
You should also have antibodies tested to see if you have Hashimoto's Disease. Because if you do, you should be treated so that your TSH gets suppressed. This stops the autoimmune attack.
You should also have your Ferritin checked because if it is too low, you may have difficulty increasing your Armour to the right dose.
I tested my adrenals via saliva before starting Armour. My adrenals were good. So I went ahead in increments of 1/8 grain every 10 days or so. I am now up to 3 grains and feel it is optimal for me. My Ferritin is a work in progress, but it is climbing.
All of this under my doctors care. A good doctor. A Holistic M.D. who understands thyroid. You need to find a good doctor. Your life can depend on it!
My Mom has a BAD doctor. She had her thyroid removed and is on Synthroid. They wont give her any Armour. She complains ALL of the time of being tired, fat and foggy headed. She is undermedicated. It will eventually kill her prematurely. But she wont change doctors. Her life.......
I do well with my TSH fully suppressed. It is currently around .08
I also do well with my Free T3 at the very top or a point or two over.
My Doc doesnt look at T4 much unless it is out of range.

Bad service stinks! And it is even harder for me because I am in sales and run my own business. I expect everyone to be as attentive and professional as I am. I am often so very disappointed......

Genes are so very interesting arent they? So glad this has helped you.
If you dig hard enough, you can find research that supports HLA-DQB1 0301 being associated with Celiac Disease:
1994: Herrera M; Theiler G; Augustovski F; Chertkoff L; Fainboim L; DeRosa S; Cowan E P; Satz M L
Molecular characterization of HLA class II genes in celiac disease patients of Latin American Caucasian origin.
Tissue antigens 1994;43(2):83-7.
In the present study, the polymorphic domain of HLA class II genes present in a pediatric population of Argentinian celiac disease patients was analyzed by hybridization to sequence-specific oligonucleotides and DNA sequencing. Sixteen out of 16 DR5/7 heterozygous patients bore the DQA1*0501 and DQB1*0201 alleles implicated in the DQ2 risk specificity. The second exon of DQA1, DQB1 and DRB1 genes from 2 DR5/7 patients was characterized by DNA sequencing. The following alleles were found in both patients: DRB1*1101 and DRB1*0701; DQB1*0301 and DQB1*0201; DQA1*0501 and DQA1*0201. Previous serological analysis in this population had shown the presence of DQ2 in 95% of the patients (40% in controls) and a negative association with DQ1 haplotypes, suggesting the presence of other "permissive" or neutral alleles. The following HLA-DQB1 alleles, besides DQB1*0201, were identified in 31 celiac disease patients: DQB1*0301, 0302, 0401 and 0402. All these alleles share a common pattern of residues between positions 84 and 90, and distinct from that present in DQ1-related alleles.
***I believe one day HLA-DQB1 0301 will be one of the recognized genes for Celiac.***
I have HLA-DQB1 0301 and HLA-DQB1 0602.
Just found this:
Interestingly, the HLA-DQB1*0602 allele protects against IMD (immune-mediated diabetes), even if the HLA-DQB1*0301 or DQB1*0302 susceptibility gene is present. HLA-DQB1*0301 is the HLA haplotype frequently associated with autoimmune thyroiditis.
From this research:
Open Original Shared Link
This is good news for me!! I have the gene for TI but I also have the gene that protects me from it even though I have that diabetes gene.
Of note too is that the HLA-DQB1*0301 is also associated with autoimmune thyroiditis. Everyone in my immediate family has Hashi's including me. (Mom, Sis and Brother and my Mom's mother had it.)

Most of us avoid this sort of thing by never eating anything that we have not read the packing on, asked the cook about or made personally ourselves. Sorry you feel bad. Hope you feel better soon.

These are the tests you should have:
TSH
Free T4
Free T3
And there are 2 antibodies
The antibodies tell you if your thyroid is being attacked (autoimmune). The other tests show function. TSH is called thyroid stimulating hormone. It is the hormone that tells the thyroid to work harder or slow down (depending on the amount of T3 in the blood). T4 is inactive thyroid hormone and T3 is the active form. If your doctor only tested TSH that is misleading and it is likely he is not using the newest TSH range .3-3. Do you have copies of your labs?
-
I was told for 12 years I couldnt possibly be hypothyroid because I was skinny and had D. I didnt fit the text book patient. And my labs came back "alright" for those years too. Until I learned that over 5 years ago the TSH was changed. Once I learned that, I printed out a copy and took it to my doctor who said...well looks like you are hypothyroid afterall. I fired him and found another doctor who could treat me with Armour. Best thing I EVER did!!

Did they test you MMA to look for B12 deficiency? A simple blood test is not very accurate especially if you take any B12 in a vitamin. Mine was low end, but the shots did help me get more energy. I still take sublingual.
