I would try to find somewhere else to be seen. But there are a few natural things you can try while you wait:
Oregano Oil capsules-natural antibiotic and antiviral, Lyseine- to help immune system, Vitamin C, Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, Calcium. Eat some good old fashioned Chicken soup. It is mostly the salt that helps shrink the swollen passages of the throat.
Support your immune system as much as you can -- lots of rest, lots of fluids, avoid (or at least cut back) sugars and starches and processed foods. fresh greens, including young dandelions greens, are yummy and nourishing. avoiding any foods that you're even alittle allergic too will help reduce stress on your immune system. eating extra probiotic foods will help support your body (raw sourkraut, kimchi, and other naturally fermented pickles, kefir or yogurt if you're not allergic to milk, probiotic capsules if nothing else).

I had "the hunger" for about 6 weeks and then it faded away. I have normal hunger levels now.

You CAN heal!! I suffered greatly for 12 years and recovering nicely. Hang in there!! WE are here when you need us.

I just started a genetics class with CCNH where I have my Phd. I am excited to learn more. I read today that they have now discovered 26 genes related to the most common form of lung cancer. There is NO WAY that just 2 genes are responsible for ALL Celiac cases. I think if they put some money and resource into it, they will discover MANY other genes for Celiac. In fact, Europe and Asia recognize 7 or 8. We are just lagging behind........

Mother is right......low temp could indicate thyroid. It can also be a sign of low adrenal function.
The new TSH ranges according to the AACE is from .3 - 3. And even those arent always diagnostic. I was severely hypo thyroid at 2.8. Right now my TSH is .08 and I am perfectly fine with NO hyper symptoms at all. With Hashi's you want to fully suppress the TSH to get rid of the antibodies.
According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists
(AACE), 1 in 10 Americans - more than the number of Americans with
diabetes and cancer combined - suffer from thyroid disease, yet as
many as half remain undiagnosed. In order to counteract this lack of
awareness and educate the public about the prevalence of thyroid
disease, diagnosis, and treatment, in January, AACE continued its
annual thyroid awareness campaign. The 2003 campaign, Hiding in Plain
Sight: Thyroid Undercover, launched as part of the January 2003
Thyroid Awareness Month.
According to the AACE, until November 2002, doctors had relied on a
normal TSH level ranging from 0.5 to 5.0 to diagnose and treat
patients with a thyroid disorder who tested outside the boundaries of
that range. The new guidelines narrow the range for acceptable thyroid
function, and AACE is now encouraging doctors to consider treatment
for patients who test outside the boundaries of a narrower margin
based on a target TSH level of 0.3 to 3.04. AACE believes the new
range will result in proper diagnosis for millions of Americans who
suffer from a mild thyroid disorder, but have gone untreated until
now. AACE estimates that the new guidelines double the number of
people who have abnormal thyroid function, bringing the total to 27
million.

They look amazing....I think I got a blood sugar spike just looking at them.

I hope for your sake Pyro that you are not gluten intolerant.....I know how much you love your vittles.

Renee,
I wish I could offer you something other than I am praying for you and hope you recover soon. Neurological issues ARE frustrating as that is what I have dealt with myself for the past 12 years. Like you, I had oodles of tests. The gluten-free diet HAS helped me in this area.
Just double check your toiletries and food items (manufacturers do change formulations periodically) to make certain it is not CC. And are you eating dairy? Some have had neuro issues with dairy as well. I know it is but a crumb.....
I really hope you find an answer soon.

If your doctor doesnt think very highly of you....then you need a NEW DOCTOR!!
Ask your NEW doctor for these:
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.

Fortunately, you do not need a doctors permission to try a gluten free diet. And it can be very healthy if you choose lots of whole foods: lean meats, eggs, nuts & seeds, veggies, fruits, brown rice, whole grains, etc.
I have used Enterolab twice. I felt it was worth it. I also used them for genetic testing which was consistent with my results from Kimball Labs for genetic.

And what would they gain by intentionally making everyone POS. They dont sell gluten-free products or supplements of any kind. IF they did, then I would be very skeptical. I think it is far more accurate than other food sensitivity testing like A.L.C.A.T. The fact that I was NEG and then years later POS shows that over time an intolerance can get worse. I had numbers back then, just not high enough to qualify for a POS. Those numbers went up over time.

I would stay away from Quaker. They have CC issues.
Albers is a good one.
And these:
and Arrowhead Mills Grits

no gluten at all.
Also, you might try:
Cream of Buckwheat (100% wheat & gluten free)

Nuts and seeds are good if he tolerates them. At his age, I would opt for nut and seed butters over whole nuts and seeds. Still a chocking hazzard. They also make almond flour which you can bake with. The SCD diet has recipes that are delicious and high calorie/nutrition:

Check out the kugel.

My first thought was that something in that buffet irritated your stomach (bacteria, virus, toxin, etc.). Continue with your testing. It is true that if you go off gluten even for a few weeks it can make the tests inaccurate. If you dont want to eat gluten to find out, stick to your bland diet and see if you dont improve after a few more weeks.
Also you might add some things to help heal the irritated gut like PepZin GI, aloe juice (George's is mild), marshmellow, slippery elm bark and probiotics (acidophilus caps that are dairy free).
If you want accurate Celiac testing, you will need to consume gluten daily in regular amounts.

Can you post your labs for thyroid. I was told I was "normal" for 12 years when I was severely hypo. None of my doctors knew and the labs didnt have the NEW TSH ranges. The new ranges are from .3 - 3. I just saw recent labs yesterday from someone whose lab was still using 6 as the upper range for TSH!!

Make sure that oatmeal is gluten-free....Bob's Red Mill....it must say certified gluten-free. Most oatmeals have gluten.
-
I go by two things when trying to determine if a supplement is gluten-free. One is what they say about their gluten-free status and the other is my reaction to the supplement. If I get gluten, I get vertigo and migraine. There is no mistaking.
I do not/have not reacted to Country Life or Pure Encapsulation. I really like Pure Encapsulation the most, but they are pricey. I like that they dont have all of those toxic fillers. Country Life is gluten-free, but does use the fillers.
So, yes, Mike, I am pretty comfortable with those two brands. Am I 100% sure? Nothing in this world is...............me.....you.....this forum......could all be an illusion.

Yes, "surviving" into the 90's is quite impressive....but for me...the last 12 years of my life I felt like I was merely "surviving".....I want to be "living" into my 90's!! So while she may "survive" just as long with or without gluten....like you said....she wasnt "living" fully.
That is what staying gluten-free is about.....having a life now and "living" to enjoy it through old age.

I agree with having your thyroid checked. I was severely hypo and skinny. Doctors would not dx me because I was thin and had D all of the time. I just didnt fit the textbook picture of hypothyroid. When my labs finally got bad enough and I took a copy of the new TSH ranges, I got dx and properly treated. It was the best thing that had ever happened to me healthwise. I improved greatly.
Ask for:
TSH (3rd generation)
Free T4
Free T3
Both antibodies for thyroid
Ferritin
B12
Vitamin D
While you are at it.....

I would contact the caterer too and see what they can do. Have a lara bar or something in your little purse just in case. I am probably not the best to ask because I no longer care what ANYONE thinks. If they dont ask and stare, I just smile. If they ask I tell them. And I go about my business.

Yes I did. I commented. Shay is my family nickname for me. My birth name is Sharon.
I believe you can get to the bottom of it. Maybe you can use that old range of 6 to get further testing done. So use it to your advantage. The point I was trying to make though is that some people (including me) are hypo at a TSH of 1 (regardless of the range). Normal is what is normal for you. And that is what you have to find out. Knowing the Free T4 and Free T3 can let you know if you ca safely try thyroid meds to see if they will help you.

I tested NEG with Enterolab the first time. About 2 - 3 years ago. But positive this last time right before I went gluten-free. So I can confirm that not everyone tests POS everytime.
-
You have been gluten-free since May? It is HIGHLY unlikely that your biopsy will be POS. Most agree that you need to be eating a fair amount of gluten every day for a good 2-4 months BEFORE an biopsy to have a chance of it being accurate.
One month of heavy gluten eating might not be enough. So you can reschedule for 3 months from now and eat gluten like crazy to test.
Or you can stick with your gluten-free diet that is apparently working and skip the biopsy. Unless the biopsy is for something other than Celiac.
Why are you getting the biopsy if the diet is working?

The extreme hunger left me at about 6 weeks. Hang in there!! Try to eat the most nutritiously dense foods you can. Avoid empty starchy carbs. Eat quality protein, lots of veggies, berries and good fats like olive oil, coconut oil and avocado. Nuts are also good in moderation.
Hang in there!! It does get better.
