Likely your doctor will not view Enterolab as of any value at all.
I was POS with Enterolab. No Celiac genes. But POS response to the diet.
A POS response to the gluten-free diet IS the "gold standard" in my opinion.

There are people and research on both sides of the camp. I went vegan for health reasons as well....but found myself sicker and sicker. I became anemic. I need a small amount of meat in my diet everyday. I feel better.
Healthy is whatever foods make YOU healthy.

Very well said sbj.
Jason, I have seen your posts for a long time now, and understandably, I can see you suffer from a form of depression. For whatever reason, you have not sought out professional help. It took me awhile too.
In the meantime, I can highly recommend a book by Louise Hay. She is an amazing human being and her personal story is very inspirational. This book below really helped me. I still read some of it everyday. She started out helping AIDS patients back in the 80's when everyone treated them like they had leprosy and that the disease was a death sentence. She has helped so many people live healthy lives. You can too. You can get one used for 7 bucks:

I was vegan for a few years and when a Chinese doctor told me I needed to eat red meat, I was surprised that it was NO problem at all for my body to digest a steak. None. All you can do is try it and see if it agrees with you. You could take a gluten-free digestive enzyme with it if you feel you might need help.

Im going to a friend's house. There will be about 12 people there. I wont be able to eat ANYTHING there. So I will be taking my own baked chicken and veggies so I can enjoy the company of my good friends who know and love me and couldnt care less if I bring my own food. I did the same for a Halloween party and for Fourth of July. Everytime it has worked out great and I feel so good that I got out and didnt hermitize myself.

***I think I will just buy the plain acidophilus yogurt next time. It only has acidophilus.

Jason....have you found a good counselor yet? The times in my life when I have been in similar shoes, I found help. You dont have to do it alone. There is great comfort in having someone listen to you and offer you alternative ideas.
We can only do so much in here and since after all this time and many posts you still have not found what you need in us, now would be a good time to find a professional who can really help you.

During the first month or so of any dramatic dietary change, your poos can look and do some strange things. I wouldnt worry about it at the moment. You are still healing. It may be that you cannot even digest that butter and you see it in the loo.
***I have been making my RAW goat yogurt and loving it! No problems. I have made 2 batches with an organic acidophilus yogurt (commercial) and it had a nice tart, but not too tart taste and very smooth.
But everyone talked about the "greek" yogurt so I picked up this brand:

I made a batch and when it was done today I realized t smelled just like buttermilk. And it tastes like buttermilk too.
Anyone know if this is o.k. to drink. I mean, buttermilk is o.k. I am thinking it was the 24 hour fermentation that made it so sour. Commercial greek yogurt is probably only fermented for 8 hours.
Any thoughts?

You can buy them each individually.

That seems reasonable to me too.

I understand wanting an official Dx. But sadly, for many of us, that never comes. So you have to move on and keep on gluten-free because you know in your heart and body that is the answer. You get sick when you eat gluten.
Otherwise, you will need to eat gluten for a good 3 months and lots of it to get a biopsy. And it is true, even then, there are false negatives.
Only you can decide if you want to do that. There was one person in here who did decide to eat gluten and take the tests/biopsy. She ended up in the hospital several times and couldnt even walk after a month or so on gluten. I do not know what happened to her. I believe she stopped coming in here. I hope she made it.

Once I had to wear a peachy/orange drop waist giganic bow bridesmades dress. I looked like a frilly pumpkin. It was hideous. I hated the dress, but enjoyed the wedding. It was for them and not for me. It isnt easy to be selfless, but it can be rewarding. I find that if I can manage to change my perspective on things and be positive, then it isnt so bad.
BTW....I burned that dress....LOL
I vowed that at my wedding the dresses would be "rented". No one would get stuck with an ugly dress. Though mine were pretty, simple and red.

Unfortunately for a "gold standard" Dx, he will need to be eating gluten, get blood work and then a biopsy of his intestines. And the sad thing is that 1 month might not be long enough to get a positive. Add to that, there are naturally a lot of false negatives for children under the age of 6.
It is a hard decision for you to make for sure. I feel for you. But he might need to be on gluten (equiv to 3 or 4 slices of bread a day) for a good 3 months and even then it might be a false negative (young children's immune systems are not fully developed yet).
You could ask for a GENETIC test. Just to see if he even has the genes for Celiac. It will not Dx Celiac, but it will give you another piece to the puzzle.
If it were me, personally, I would keep my child gluten-free. You already have a positive response to the diet. The anemia should improve naturally with time and eating iron rich foods. Consider Floravital gluten-free. Gets the iron up fast and gently. No constipation and no tummy upset.

My Mom NEVER showed antibodies to her thyroid for years, but when they removed her thyroid due to cancer, they Dx Hashimotos because her thyroid was almost completely eaten away. Why no antibodies for all of those years? Our family doesnt produce much IgA and the thyroid antibody tests are IgA mediated. To confuse matters more antibodies can be IgG and IgM mediated as well. So testing only IgA doesnt necessarily rule out "auto-immune" thyroid disease. PLUS you are right, when a great portion of the thyroid is eaten away, the antibodies drop.
When I was at a TSH of 2.8 I had horrible fatigue, muscle twitches all over, dry skin, kinky hair in spots, dry eyes and depression. I had other symptoms (migraine, vertigo and neuropathy) that cleared up (or are almost cleared) with the gluten-free diet.
Hypothyroid can also be caused by Hypopituitary, low iodine, low tyrosine, low selenium and radiation damage. There are other reasons as well. These are the ones I have studied.

Nora is right. There are dx'd Celiacs with this genetic makeup. What are your husbands genes? Since he is dx'd Celiac, if he doesnt have the 2 U.S. recognized Celiac genes, then it is a whole new ballgame for your children.
-
Congratulations Raven!!!!!

Did they test your TOTAL IgA? Without that, the IgA results are meaningless. If you are deficient, then the IgA cant Dx you, but the IgG can.
-
Most in here will tell you there is no such thing as "borderline". You either do or you dont. It is like you cant be borderline pregnant.
If it were me and I had a POS bloodwork and my child has been Dx with Celiac, then I would go gluten-free for life myself. First, it will be so much easier to have a gluten-free home. Both of you eating gluten-free. Hopefully if you are married your DH will get on board too. It is just so much better and easier to have a gluten-free household.
Also, you and your partner should get genetic testing.
-
My NEGATIVE labs were with LabCorp as well. But I had a POSITIVE response to the diet.
You wont know if you are "free" unless you try the diet to see if your symptoms improve.
-
Yes, it is a BIG commitment, but you will not know if you can get well unless you go 100% gluten-free. I dont have Celiac genes. I had negative bloodwork. Refused biopsy. But POSITIVE response to the diet. I will never look back.
-
A lot of peeps dont even know what "gluten" is. So be prepared.
I now just say gluten intolerant. It sums it up either way. I cannot eat gluten.

Confused, get thee to a doctor that specializes in thyroid and endocrine disorders ASAP!!
Did your ND Dx Hyperthyroid based on your TSH alone? I have never seen A T3 and T4 so far in the toilet. Having extremely low T4 and T3 with a low TSH indicates PITUITARY dysfunction. Your pituitary is unable to release TSH, and therefore, unable to get your T4 to a good level. Without T4, there isnt anything there to convert to T3 which is what you NEED!!
A gluten-free diet could heal an ailing thyroid if it is autoimmune thyroid disease and the damage is not too severe, but it WILL NOT HEAL the pituitary. You could have a pituitary tumor or damage to the pituitary. Either way, you need to find out ASAP!!
Symptoms of HYPERTHYROID include:
Extreme hunger
Excessive weight loss
Bulging Eyes
Anxiety
Rapid Heart Beat
Lots of energy but with exhaustion
Insomnia
Loose stools
Does this sound like you?

According to the new TSH ranges anything over 3 is hypothyroid. This isnt due to "many" interpretations. It was decided by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist.
You are hypothyroid. I was nearly dead with a TSH of 2.8. Armour saved my life!!

Stopping My Vegan Diet Hurt Recovery?

I made a really good friend years ago when I was vegan. She was vegan as well and believed with all her heart and soul that vegan was the healthiest way to eat. And she seemed to do o.k. vegan for a little over a year, then she got pregnant. I can still remember stopping by to drop some homemade almond milk off. I went to put it in the refridgerator and there was a huge hunk of HAM in her ice box!!! When I asked her about it, she said....I am craving meat and I cant get enough.
Vegan doesnt work for everyone, so listen to your body. It knows best.
