Hi Melinda,
Having a baby is always a leap of faith. We never know what the outcome will be. Even if we did everything PERFECTLY things can still go wrong. And some women who do everything WRONG have perfectly healthy babies.
My suggestion would be to make sure you are 100% gluten free for a good 6 months to a year BEFORE you get pregnant. During that time eat the healthiest diet you can and take supplements to make sure your body is nutritionally ready to carry a baby to term.
You can get tests to find out any deficiencies you might have and really mega dose on those. Make sure a good well rounded multi and REALLY make sure that your iron is good.
Also get your Thyroid checked. If it isnt working right that can affect your ability to carry to term.
I wish you strength and courage.

I know it is hard. And I am sure you really want to get well.
So the easiest thing to do...well the best thing....is to eat very simply foods that are easiest to digest: plain meats, veggies, fruits, eggs, pure spices, squashes, root veggies for starches. Stay away from grains, dairy and legumes for a little while (soy and peanuts). Then after you feel better...you can reintroduce them one at a time.

kept coming back normal because there was nothing left of it to attack. The pathology found I have Hashimoto's disease;
This EXACT thing happened to my Mom. Only she had already developed cancer. But they took out her entire thyroid and so far....so good.
You may have to self Dx like a lot of us. See what your self ordered tests reveal. But be prepared to try the gluten free diet. You will not know unless you do.

I grew up in Bradenton/Sarasota. Hubby's parents have a condo there 1/2 the year. So we visit often. Tell of the good gluten-free restaurants down there?????
-
I sure hope so. I tried to eat there about 2 months ago. The only thing I could eat was a salad and their honey mustard dressing. Luckily I came prepared with some chopped turkey breast and and some gluten-free crackers. So I got the salad....dumped my turkey on it and used my own dressing.
So a few gluten-free items would be very nice.

With those numbers you should ask to see a GI doc and get a biopsy. Dont go gluten free until you get that biopsy. And consider genetic testing as well.

If you are are a Celiac and it doesnt sound like you have had all of the testing yet. And BTW being gluten free will make your tests inaccurate for Celiac most likely.
But if you are....then it can take time for your villi to heal and during that time you can become more sensitive to foods. You may also have dysbiosis going on with too many bad bacteria/yeasts and this is making it hard for you to digest starches.
Do you have a doctor? Do you have Naturopaths where you live?
-
Welcome back!
Yes, Thyroid can be related to Celiac. The diet helps some, but not everyone with their thyroid.
You need:
TSH
Free T3
Free T4
And all of the thyroid antibodies
You should also have them check your adrenal gland function
Hope you feel better soon.

Personally, for the first 2 or 3 months I would only eat simple meats, veggies (fresh and frozen), fruits, eggs, pure spices, plain nuts & seeds (read the labels). Eating out is too risky at first. I learned the hard way......

Search "Glutenese" in the forums....same thing.
Not saying you cant take it, but you shouldnt rely on it or think it will keep you from being damaged. It wont.

This sounds yummy...bet it would work with shrimp too.

This is an ongoing debate.....Im not going to beat a dead horse...or a live one for that matter.

That was a riot. You might as well laugh at these types of things......it beats crying.

I think I would remember "disappearing kids". I have a very sharp memory. Sometimes I wish it wasnt so sharp. I remember a girl broke both of her arms in 2nd grade. I even remember her name: Tammy Mosier. Why do I remember her name when we werent even friends. I was pretty aware of what was going on around me in schools. I lived in a smaller community and we were bused into HS. In our town we knew everyone in the community at least by face (if you lived here long enough). Many went to churches, we had community events and of course school. Gossip was common. A kid couldnt simply "disappear" without anyone knowing why.
In HS one boy got stomach cancer my senior year. 1 girl got into a car accident and had permanent brain damage but returned to school. 2 kids died....one sadly was electrocuted the other a car accident. 4 girls in my class got pregnant and had their babies. No there wasnt a bunch of cancer or autism. We had a special ed class in HS that had about 20 students. A few of them probably had autism, but out of 1200 students......it wasnt rampant.
Im not that old. But it was different 20 - 25 years ago. There wasnt as much sickness.
For instance, kids in our community are ALWAYS sick. ALWAYS on antibiotics. ALWAYS missing school. It wasnt like that when I was a kid. It just wasnt.

I found this online. And a few threads that said they actually have a gluten-free menu. Still...take some of your own food in your purse just in case:
Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy located on University Drive offers a few gluten-free items on their menu. Their staff is well-trained and understands the specifics needs of a gluten-intolerant customer. The best method to eating safely at Abuelo's is to request to speak with the manager. Each manager and assistant manager identifies the fears of eating out and being allergic to gluten. They will further assist you in making a safe and enjoyable choice for your meal. You may contact the restaurant ahead of time by calling (979) 260-3400 and asking for a manager. You may also visit their Web site at Open Original Shared Link

Most restaurants will allow you to bring a dessert from home like a birthday cake. Just call ahead. Explain Gluten Free. Bring your own gluten-free cake. They will be happy to provide the plates and silverware. Especially for a party that is ordering foods and drinks. Ask what brand of ice cream they serve and if it is gluten free, that can be served with your gluten-free cake.

That Mill is gonna have to go too. You cannot use the same mill for gluten grains as non-gluten grains.
I am not so sure it is ironic. Sometimes it seems that we are lead down a certain path in life for a reason. There is some lesson to learn or in some way we can become stronger by the irony.
Maybe you are right on track.
Think of this as an opportunity to learn something new. New ways to make homemade breads and cookies. The gluten-free options can be very delicious (especially made at home).
I decided to have 100% gluten free home. Any gluten foods have to be eaten outside on the patio. Mostly they dont bother and just enjoy all of the gluten-free foods I make available in our home. I bake. Lately I have been on a coconut kick....trying new things. Today...coconut custard pie. It was awesome!
You should have all of your family members tested too. Some people dont have overt symptoms but have major damage going on inside.

There is some truth to what you are saying Violet. But also, as a kid, I dont remember ANY autistic children at my school. Only a few kids had allergies. And it was VERY RARE that a kid in any of my schools up through HS got cancer. It is not the same anymore, from what my daughter reports and from knowing other families with children around my neighborhood and at her school.

Have you had his blood sugar tested?
Sometimes when the pancreas doesnt work correctly, you can eat a meal, but the pancreas produces "too much" insulin for that meal. The extra insulin in the bloodstream triggers hunger to balance it out.
High glycemic foods are likely the cause (think sugars, rice, potatoes, corn, etc.)
Sometimes an organ will go into "overdrive" before it "conks". So you should get it checked out.

I know we are a society of "weight obsession" but right now the most important thing is your HEALTH and not your weight. Most who are overweight LOSE weight when they go gluten free. If you are underweight....you will likely gain some.
So you can relax.
As long as you can stand it, you can wait for the results of the test. And if you keep eating gluten, then you can get a biopsy and hope for a gold standard diagnosis.
keep us posted!!

I couldnt edit it....It does look FUNNY tho.

And auto-immune diabetes goes hand and hand with Celiac. If it were me, I would stop eating gluten.

This is a LOW FAT recipe right??......LOL

Hi Marlena,
No I do not believe I am "allergic" to all of these foods. I think my body just isnt digesting them well at the moment. I am working on healing my gut and my deficiencies. Vitamin D is already back in the normal range. And I am working on Iron right now.
I will never eat GLUTEN again. I think it is very damaging to the body even in small amounts.
My plan is to heal and then re-introduce those foods in but in very limited amounts. For instance the nightshades give me stiff hands in the morning. So my hope is someday I can eat them once in awhile and feel just fine. I dont plan on eating tons of starches again ever. I feel better on this more natural diet.
