ShayFL's Achievements

  1. Ive always called mine "sinky floaty" sensations. I get he pins and needles. Every once and awhile an icy hot pain. And sometimes my hands or feet get soooo cold even in the Summer time!! But they never look blue. I am hoping that it will continue to get better with gluten-free.

  2. Some cooked foods are easier to digest than raw foods. The starch foods are prime examples of this: potatoes, rice. Heat degrades the crystalline structure of starch, making it more accessible to the enzyme action in your digestive system. Raw starch is hard to digest, but probably won't harm you unless you consume such foods in gross excess (difficult to do).

Some foods contain antinutrient properties, toxins, and/or taste awful when raw, but are digestible/edible when cooked: large beans, especially kidney beans. Other raw foods have negative side-effects, such as severe flatulence (e.g., raw cabbage, lentil sprouts). Cooking such foods is one way to reduce/avoid side effects. (Other ways to avoid side effects include using spices, and fermentation.)

So while many foods are best eaten raw, there are some that are difficult or impossible to eat raw. (P.S. Some types of rice can be sprouted and eaten raw, but it is often very bitter and unpalatable.)

A natural diet would consist of mostly raw fruits, veggies, sprouted nuts and seeds, grubs and worms that could be dug up. The occasional bird egg cracked and enjoyed as is.

But who wants to eat like that????

I am by no means a raw foodiest, but I stand by saying that the doctor in question made a false statement.

  3. I dont know if anyone is a shill or not. And I am not going to say because I dont know.

I used to sell on eBay and remember how rotten it felt when someone would email me accusing me of shill bidding. Here I was excited that I was going to make a sale and watching the bidding war, and some jerk had to email me with all kind of nasty remarks. In the end, on eBay, the auction would end and I made a sale. Of course the nasty person reported me to eBay, then eBay did their research to see all bids were legit. and the nasty person got no satisfaction (by seeing my auction pulled). But the point is, you dont know who it is you are accusing. I know it doesnt feel good to be falsely accused.

And you would have to be pretty desperate to come into an "obviously hostile" environment day in and day out just to try to sell your product. When there are so many more receptive places.

Health food stores absolutely LOVE to have "guest speakers". Find a health food store that gets a lot of traffic from Mom's and sick people and you could make a fortune. I see this little "seminars" all of the time at various HF places in Tampa. And it is ALWAYS someone selling something. Even ate my lunch next to a gluten intolerance one a few months ago. The woman was selling her book and herbs.

Me personally, from a marketing standpoint, would not bother with in here......

  4. If it were me, I would just keep him gluten free at home and with you. Someday when he goes to pre-school or kindergarten, or when visiting a friend, he will get some gluten. This you can be sure of. So he will get small amounts here and there but will be gluten free with you at home. I think this would be healthier than you deliberately giving him gluten. This is just my opinion.

  5. because it would make the intestines lazy, basically they would become dependant on them and not do the job on their own...the intestines that is.

This is false information. First off, most of the digestive enzymes come from the pancreas, stomach, gallbladder and liver. The intestines neutralize them after they have done their part and absorb nutrients....that is their job.

If an organ is not producing enzymes properly, taking supplemental enzymes can give that organ a much needed "rest" and also get the body "absorbing nutrients" again, so the body can heal, and eventually wean off the supplements and let the new healthier organs take over.

It happens all the time with other types of organs as well. Some people get on supplemental thyroid hormones for awhile, but then their own thyroid kicks back in and they can get off of the drugs. If an organ CAN heal....it will. Taking the supplementals will only HELP them HEAL faster.

Also we are not designed to be producing the massive amounts of enzymes our poor organs must produce. It is a "back up" system to digestion. All of these organs have the primary job of secreting enzymes to repair our bodies. We should be getting most of our enzymes from our foods. Natural, raw and unprocessed foods contain ALL of the enzymes in them necessary for them to be digested by us. With the exception of foods that are not natural for us anyway like grains and legumes. These should never be eaten raw.

***If you are willing to eat a 100% raw foods diet, you wont need the enzymes.***

Enzymes are found in abundance in raw fruits and vegetables. When we cook raw food, the heat destroys the enzymes, causing the food we consume to be enzyme-deficient.

When we consume these enzyme-deficient foods, our deprived body will have to generate its own enzymes required to digest the food.

The more we depend on our internally-produced enzymes, the more stress we put on our body systems and organs. When our body enzymes are busy digesting our heavy meal that has no enzyme, their function of rebuilding and replenishing our worn-out and damaged cells are neglected.

  6. I have suffered from migraines for about 7 years. I never had them until I was in a car accident. But I only got them right around ovulation and menses. So I dont know if the car accident was an initial trigger with hormones taking over.

I went gluten-free the beginning of April this year and have not had a single migraine so far. And I was at 2 a month. So this is great news for me!!

I also have vertigo/balance problems. And neuropathy in my hands and feet. The neuropathy is improving. And the vertigo was also becoming less pronounced.

However, I glutened myself on Friday night and have spent the entire weekend praying to God, Alah, Buddha and all the saints to make the room stop spinning. I am back to normal today.

Now back to the headaches. I did remove gluten, but at the same time started taking 400 mg of vitamin B2 and 200 mg of CoQ10 (both of which have been proven in trials to reduce migraine attacks and intensity). So mine was a three pronged approach and I cannot say for certain which one did the most to help.

But after being glutened and seeing how it affects me neurologically, I know it def. played a part in getting rid of the headaches.

I am in the process of lowering the B2 and CoQ to see what happens.

  7. So went searching for supplements without anything bad in them....additives...binders...fillers...gluten...soy...corn...dairy...etc. Not easy!!!

    But I found these:

    Open Original Shared Link

Before I order them, they are getting a call from me. Because they use "natural" vitamin E and tocopherols....but claim that the product has no wheat, gluten, soy or nuts....so where are they getting this vitamin E from??? Hmmmm...the only other source I know of is from rice, but it is extremely expensive to produce.

    I am oh so curious........

  8. Ruth Chris is excellent. Call ahead and let them know you need gluten-free. You will get to meet the chef and be totally pampered. If you tell them it is your anniversary...you will get even more extra special care. :0)

    Congratulations BTW!!!

We also have Pei Wei, PF Changs, Carrabbas, Outback, Bonefish, Maggianos, Lee Roy Selmons, Flemmings, Bern's Steakhouse...google them. The nicer ones require reservations like Bern's and Ruth Chris.

    Enjoy!!

  9. I get his newsletters. I read them. But I always keep in mind that he makes his money selling crap loads of supplements and products. There is always research that can support your beliefs, if you dig hard enough. And many articles take the slant of the writers ideas (not necessarily the facts). So read them, but do plenty of research before deciding if something he says sounds right.

  10. You generally should up your dose every 2 weeks in the beginning by small increments. I did 1/4 grain at a time (15 mg.). When I got to around 120 mg, the increases got longer apart. I am now up to 165 mg. It has taken me a year to get there....slowly. I had periods of being symptom free, but then they would come back. That is when I upped. My doctor let's me self dose.

I tested often in the beginning FREE T3, FREE T4, TSH and antibodies. But I have not tested in about 6 months now. My doc goes by symptoms and not labs.

  11. It all means your doctor is incompetent and you should ask for a referral to a GI doctor and get an endoscopy. Keep eating GLUTEN and wheat until you get the scope!!

Or if a positive blood test is enough for you, go 100% gluten free.

The inflamation is likely in your intestines!!!

Dont get me started on doctors......

  12. I have trouble sometimes keeping him on the diet or feeling it is so important that every crumb be kept out of the mayo or the peanut butter since he has NO symptoms. I just have to keep reminding myself of all the other problems that come with celiac if they are not keep wheat free. Dr. Green's book is great for that. Just flip through it and you will become committed to keeping them wheat free!

Please make sure it is GLUTEN free and not just WHEAT free. Just wanted to clarify this since you are new and might, from this post, think it is just wheat that is the problem.

Barley, Rye and most Oats too.

  13. I am sleuthing and I think I might be on to something. I tried baking with xylitol a few months ago with disasterous effects (bloating, gas and explosive D). Needless to say, I only tried it one time.....

Anyway, I had bought some gluten free gum and would chew it now and again. And have noticed that every time I chew some, I get bloat and D. Even just two little chic let size pieces.

On the xylitol package it says that it may have a laxative effect if eaten in excess OR even small amounts in individuals who are sensitive.

Well I must be very sensitive.

Now here is the rip.....My sublingual B12 (Jarrow) which I have been taking for years, lists xylitol as the first ingredient. I am suspecting this might be my bloating issue now and I've noticed looser BM's. So today I am to hunt for a substitute.

So what I am getting at is that once you go gluten-free, other sensitivities might become apparent and you have to try to figure them out.

  14. That is a tough one for sure. But I am going to assume your daughter is very good about reading labels, so she could ask to see the boxes/cans/etc. before meals to make sure. And packing safe things for her is, of course, very smart.

I know it is very difficult not to worry, but the time comes when we have to let our children start living their own lives. She shouldnt NOT go to this because of fear of sickness. That will just cripple her for life.

This is a great opportunity for her to learn to be assertive and take care of herself. I would explain to her that it will be up to her to look over things before she eats to make sure.

  15. You have mixed symptoms. Get this...you can have Grave's (hyper) and Hashimotos (Hypo) at the same time!! So ask for a full thyroid panel: TSH, FREE T4, FREE T3, Antibodies for both Graves and Hashi's.

And have the doc test your cortisol levels (adrenal glands).

  16. Im kinda in the same boat Ellen. And I have not eatin DAIRY in years, so that is NOT my problem.

But it could be yours. Are you eating dairy? You may have to cut it out for awhile and try to re-introduce later.

I had loose BM's prior to gluten-free, but not a lot of bloating. Now I am having bloating. But it might not be related to gluten free living at all.
